  1. What would be a "fair" price? I see them listed for $400 to $700 a pair.
  2. I know this has been beat to death but I wanted some current opinions. Is there a noticeable difference between Forte1 and Forte 2? Particularly with my system (see signature). I know the "spec" differences but that does not always equate to sonic differences. Looking to upgrade soon. Thanks David
  3. Wow that is awesome, I am thinking of upgrading to Forte's this summer. I hope I get that lucky. Welcome, you will like these guys []
  4. Thanks for the suggestions everyone. Actually a set of Chorus or KLF 20s would fit. I didn't think of those. I think I will keep my eyes open for now then look seriously this summer, it will be my birthday present. And likely my last chance for a decent upgrade as my wife is retiring in November. I plan to sell the KG4s when I do this, no room to store them.
  5. Hi All, I am thinking of upgrading this coming summer. I want to get LaScalas but the wife put a veto on moving the 2 channel system to a larger room. I cannot get anything with a footprint much larger than the KG4s I have. My KG4s have titanium diaphragms and Sonicaps from Bob Crites. My question is: Would Fortes or Forte IIs be much of an upgrade from my KG4s? I have never heard a Forte in person so I would like opinions from you guys that have heard both. Thanks [] David
  6. Thanks for the replies, now I have to work on the WAF [:$] David
  7. I seen a pair of 70s era La Scalas on Craigslist for $600, near where we live. I was thinking of moving the 2 channel system to a larger room (so larger speakers, right!) I have a couple of questions: I this a good price for La Scalas? Do La Scalas have to placed in corners? Would they be a good match for my 2 channel set up (see signature) ? What could I get for my KG4s that have Crites titanium diaphrams and Sonicaps? Thanks David
  8. I have been using a Yaqin MS-20L since June. I love it. I got mine from the guy in Canada, he covers the warranty. Changing the tubes to Russian ones make a big difference in the sound for not a lot of money. I have never owned a Jolida or one of the other names but I have heard them. For the price this amp cannot be beat, my humble opinion of course.
  9. I always liked using Rush-Moving Pictures because of the variety of sounds. But you have to be familiar with it I think.
  10. I'm not sure, but 40 hours seems a good all-round estimate for a lot of things, so why not a cart?Did you align the stylus? It doesn't take much misalignment to make a cart sound tinny and lacking in bass. This seems to satisfy many users' needs: http://www.audiophilia.com/features/cartridge_setup.htm I used the Technics arc protractor from vinylengine http://www.vinylengine.com/ve_downloads/index.php?technics_baerwald_arc_protractor_instructions.pdf I gets better with each LP []
  11. one more Sorry but I don't know how to post multiple pix in one post [:$]
  12. I finally replaced the Dual with this Technics SL1200M3D with a Shure M97xe cartridge. I had to make a stand because of the weight, the Dual was on top of the Denon CD changer, didn't think that would be a good idea with this TT. The cart seems to lack a little depth, how long should I give it to break in?
  13. Well the price of the Shure M97xe just dropped to $56.07 with free shipping at Amazon, gotta give that a try [Y] Thanks for all the help David
  14. Thanks for the offer but I got the wife's OK to buy a new one so I need to take advantage while the window is open [:$] Nice Vette, I have a friend with a red one just like it. David
  15. Thanks, that's my baby, it's a 2000 model (C5)
  16. I believe it was 1999 by looking at the serial # GE9FAO7049
  17. Is this in his budget? I can't find a price. Thanks, Dennie The needledoctor has it for $899 Thanks David, that is what I thought. Nice, but in another league altogether! Dennie Yep Dennie, for me it would be in the "divorce lawyer" league [:S]
  18. Is this in his budget? I can't find a price. Thanks, Dennie The needledoctor has it for $899 []
  19. Hi everyone, I just got a Technics SL-1200M3D to replace the Dual. I want to start with a new cartridge and need some advise on what would be a good fit. Strictly home listening classic rock, jazz, blues and classical (those that frequent the RTM thread know what I listen to [] ). I was thinking of an Ortofon 2M blue which retails for $225 but can be had for $199. I need to stay in the $200ish price range and do not want to buy a used cartridge. Thanks David
  20. I have KG4s with the passive radiator on the back, I keep them 12 inches from the wall. Going closer to the wall takes some punch away from the bass.
  21. Worth the price even after the $200.00 shipping? I would skip the direct from China route unless you are very sure of the seller; it may look like the real thing but you never know. There is an Ebay seller in Canada who imports these units, checks them, and even better warranties them. I bought my Yaqin phono pre from him and was very satisfied. Check him out before China direct (http://stores.ebay.com/Canadian-HiFi-Online?_trksid=p4340.l2563). I didn't pay that much shipping. I bought mine from the guy in Canada, I paid $90 shipping. He guarantees them and if you don't want mail it back to him he will send parts and schematics if there is a problem. I was a TV repairman in the "tube days" so if there is a problem (none yet) it should not be a problem. Tube amps are relatively easy to repair. I would not buy something like this directly from China, but that is just me.
  22. I have a Yaqin MS-20L, I am very pleased with it. Tube rolling helped the sound with it so I would assume the same for the MC100b. I have about 200 hours on it. The Yaqin amps are not the best out there, but a good value and well worth their price (IMHO).
