  1. anyone looking for a quintet center? i have one that has never been used...sat in my closet for over a year now. not sure of the value...around $50 shipped? let me know if that is reasonable. thanks-
  2. the original boxes were tossed during my last move...i only had to move 1 mile, so it wasn't worth storing them, etc. if i could get $1400 (pick-up price) for the RF-7's i'd let them go.
  3. sorry for the lack of info in the first post...was rushing while at work. they were bought around May or June 2003...black finish. condition is as close to perfect as used can get..they just sit there and nothing ever touches or sits on them. they have been played loud (of course), but never abused. location: Madison, WI (53719) i didn't think about the RC-7, but that would probably have to go in order to match whatever the replacements would be (RB-75's wouldn't be an option either).
  4. after much thought i may sell my 7's...they are simply too big for the space i have in the new house/basement. can you guys help me out and let me know a fair local price (not shipped) for them? i've been out of it since i bought them and haven't kept up with prices. thanks!
  5. i have a brand new quintet center left over from an install (only needed the 4 satellites for the room). i'm wondering if i should bother even trying to use it for a rear effect/center in my reference setup...giving me 6.1...or just sell it. rears are (yet to be hooked up...but sitting unused for 6 months ) RB-25's. if i'd sell it...what's it worth?
  6. the most popular i've heard/read about on various forums, including here, are: --SVS (call them and describe your needs...they will recommend the best option) --klipsch rsw-15 i cannot imagine going wrong with either of the choices above!
  7. when i was recently searching for pre-amp/amp combos the short list consisted of B&K, Aragon, and Parasound Halo combos. i never pulled the trigger on it, but the Halo line impressed me in both looks and stats. good luck!
  8. the only speakers i've ever had the chance of hearing in that price range were Thiel and Martin Logans...i liked the Thiel ALOT for 2-channel listening. the ML's were more of a conversation piece/novelty to me, but were great sounding as well. .02

    upgrade

---------------- I used to think I was happy with the JBLs untill I put the Klipsch next to them.---------------- yup...that's how the disease starts! MWUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!! congrats and ENJOY!!
  10. well, my existing dvd player would not fit properly in my new audio rack (too deep) so i "had" to get a different one. hehe. i want a denon 2200 or 2900 but until then i picked up the samsung dvd-841. it does the upconversion to hi-def,sacd, dvd-audio, etc. one problem i've noticed is that when i jump to different tracks on a cd the first 1/2 second or so of the song is cut off. if i rewind to the end of the previous track and let it play continuously it is fine, but jumping directly to a track it won't start at the beginning. i've tried numerous cd's (burned and store bought) and all do it...pretty annoying! i may have to return it, but if others have experienced this i won't bother because the next one may do the same thing. as far as the HD upconversion...it only does it via the DVI output and i can't get the DVI cable plugged into my plasma yet because it is wall mounted and i can't squeeze back there to get it in.
  11. the svs website has a list of demos to try... my personal favs are: finding nemo: darla scene independence day: beginning on the moon...looooow bass titan a.e.: earth's destruction and then the ice fields. SUPER low bass in the ice fields!!!!!!!
  12. sell the $500 BB card to someone for like $475...then buy the klipsch speakers elsewhere at a non-ridiculous MSRP and get more speaker for your $$$$. i hate it when people bash one brand over another without comparing specific models. saying polk is better than klipsch or the other way around is like saying mercedes is better than bmw without mentioning specific cars. oh, sorry...i was just ranting. hehehe BUY KLIPSCH!!!!
  13. nice choice! i bet your SF-2's will be "shaking" in fear! sorry for the bad joke...hehee.
  14. i do not know specifics but can almost guarantee either will be "loud enough". i think the only choice is if you want a large water-heater looking sub or a huge heavy box in your room.

    RB25 or 35

the bass your sub should be playing should not cross over with the rb-25/35 speakers anyway...neither of those can play low enough to matter. your crossover should take care of that problem. i just picked up a pair of rb-25's to go with my rf-7's/rc-7 but haven't hooked them up yet. i had to go with 25's because of space limitations...but i am 80% movies so they should be fine. .02

    Sub Help.

i'm only familiar with the SVS and RSW-15...but am sure you cannot go wrong with either. my sub is "only" (hehe) the PC 20-39Plus...so i imagine the Ultra is a good improvement over that. MMMMmmmmmmmmmm good luck!
  17. ---------------- It has a little deeper and boomier bass than the KSW 12 but didn't sound as good for music or home theater ---------------- yikes. poor misguided soul. i had a ksw-12 with my first true home theatre setup (synergy rig w/ sf-2's, etc). it was a nice match for that line of speakers...but no need to waste time comparing it with the reference subs.
  18. are you sure a sub wouldn't help? i'm sure it sounds good...but find it difficult to imagine you are getting proper LFE from that setup without the obligatory sub thumping away. i would think you are heavy in the mid-bass and all of the LFE is "there" but not at proper volumes when competing with the upper frequencies. .02
  19. thank you all for the suggestions. i did the simplest first...move the 'ol SVS to a corner. the bass nearly shook my house apart. i had to turn it down to get it under control during the ice field scene in Titan A.E. ....aaaaaaahhhh...the bass is back. i don't want to keep it exactly as it is, so i will get a longer sub cable and test it in different areas. thanks again!
  20. the speakers are just connected but not positioned...i'm still in the process of unpacking the entire house. the center channel will sit on top of the audio stand i posted above...it is measured to fit right under the tv.
  21. don't mind the mess...i obviously haven't picked out seating yet...and my Bell'O audio rack: is on its way later this week. the entire room is 24' across, but the support beam is the half way point. i hate that beam being in the way...but oh well...better than the house falling over. hehe the height is 88" at the highest and 77" where the support beam and venting drop down in the middle.
