  1. @bonedoctor Thanks agin man. I really appreciate you seeing this and posting up those tips. I have a small guy to go up in the ceiling for me (I'd probably fall through the sheetrock!) I'll be his helper on the ladder with the box. That way I can keep an eye out for how it all looks from below. I have the icelyene foam sprayed onto the bottom of the roof bwtween all rafters so no issues of itchy insulation on the attic floor to mess with. I'd love to pick up an SVS sub but that'll have to wait for next year's budget! I found these KS-7502-THX speakers NIB for $800 pair which I thought was a great deal considering they are $1k each MSRP. Wouldn't mind finding another deal on a pair of KL-7502-THX like that too.
  2. Awesome information bonedoctor! Thanks so much for this. It now gives me the confidence to get up in there and make this happen. My walls are cement block so I can't cut into them to do in-wall speakers, nor do I want to hang huge surrounds on them. My room is already full of furniture so speaker stands just wouldn't be a good fit for surrounds either. The only choice I really liked were in-ceiling speakers which for most people would be the last resort for a good sounding system. Hopefully these will compliment my other speaker choices and combine for a decent sounding sytem. BTW...I've got that SVS PC13-Ultra sub that you have on my wish list. How does it sound and compliment your system?
  3. +1 on www.AccousticSoundDesign.com I've bought a few things from them and along with their low prices their customer/tech service guys are great! You can get a BIC PL-200 sub for around $279 shipped.
  4. Well I think I have things sorted out a lot better now. I turned the gain up to about half way on the sub and re did the Audyssey and I think it has come out a lot better now. Blu-ray movies sound superb and my HD TV channels are great too. Here are some pics.
  5. Ok great idea. Thanks. I'll check with them first and see what they say. Every dealer I've checked so far don't carry them in stock and don't sound to particularly interested in ordering them unless I want to purchase the pair of speakers too.
  6. Yeah, I saw that too, but it talked more about it being used as a pre-building and pre-wiring kit than a retro fit type kit. Maybe I'll give it a shot but they look pretty hard to find.
  7. Anybody ever install a pair of these yet? Klipsch KS-7502-THX. Any tips? I bought them without seeing them in person and I didn't really realize how big they were. I am thinking that I will have to fabricate some sort of bracket or something to mount them to a rafter or joist in the ceiling whilst trying to maintain the correct height to fit flush with the sheetrock ceiling. They are fully boxed so I don't need to build anything for the back of them.
  8. It's a big Family Room 25' x 35'. Audyssey calculated my listening posistion at Front Left= 17.5', Center=18.5', Front Right= 19.5'. The listening position isn't exactly centered so that is why the settings are a bit skewed. I did all 6-7 of the Audyssey mic settings and they were in different listening positions, some were even from the side at the bar stools. I didn't direct the speakers at the mic each time because I wouldn't be doing that normally when listening to music or watching a movie. I wanted Audyssey to calibrate the best sound for each position. I have hard floor tiles with no area rugs yet. The walls are cement block and the ceiling is 10' high with sheetrock. I know I need a lot of room softenings which will hopefully bring a better listening experience in time. I need to run Audyssey again for the sub as I haven't had a chance too yet so that is why it is set to 0.0dB.
  9. I just purchased a RC-64II center from another forum member here to go with my RF-7 classic fronts. I also bought a Acoustech/BIC PL-200 sub in order to upgrade from a 2.0 system to a 3.1 (until I can get my rear surrounds wired up). I must say the center makes a great difference in clarity during blu-ray movies and HD TV channels. I absolutely love it! I was initially aprehensive about the size of the RC-64II but I think I made the right choice considering I had a hard time trying to find a RC-7. Audyssey set them up automatically as follows and I might experiment with some manual settings as time passes. Front Left= -6.5dB, Center= -1.5dB Front Right= -5.0dB, Sub= 0.0 dB
  10. Yeah, it's hot as hell right now and at this time of year we sit back and try to dodge as many hurricanes as possible. Fact is, we're so damn hard to find on the map I can't figure out how they find us! I'll have to remember to keep a tarp handy to cover all this stuff up in case the roof leaks! I'm high enough to avoid flooding but you never know with mother nature. Hope everyone made it through Irene ok.
  11. Woo hoo! My customs agency just called and said I could come collect my shipment. I've been running a 2.0 system with just my Klipsch RF-7's and my Denon AVR-3311 for awhile and was just fine. I keep reading this forum and getting more and more jealous by the day until I just had to burn another credit card to the max! You all are something else. Warren Buffett would be broke in a month if he came on here. So I went on my quest to satisfy my ears. BIC PL-200 subwoofer (until I can get my dream SVS PC-Ultra 13), Klipsch RC-64II center, pair of Klipsch KS-7502-THX in-ceiling surrounds, pair of Klipsch AW-650 outdoors for zone 2. Going to pick all of this up after lunch and try and get it all home. Guess I got me some cabling to get done. I know the house will be a mess of wires for a bit until I can get up in the ceiling to run things properly. Xmas comes early this year!
  12. Ok great thanks. I have HDMI for all except Wii and xBox360.
  13. So if I only have HDMI cables from my AVR to my TV and cable box, I'm not going to get true 5.1 unless I also have an optical cable too?
