  1. Did you happen to pick up one of those 65th anniversary Klipsch posters they're offering? Just curious who else scored one
  2. I have an offer out there for an Onkyo TX NR3008. It's a small chance but there's a possibility I could get that and still stay close to my budget. Waiting to see if that pans out, if not then I'll make my final decision. I guess I'm slightly putting it off also cause I'm still torn between the 370 and the 709. I need to hurry up though cause the XPA-5 should be here tomorrow However, I won't be around the house to receive anything after tomorrow until next mon-weds anyways. So I've got a couple days to figure it out and still have it arrive one of those days. You? Did you purchase a new one already and if so from where?
  3. And where did you see the 370 at for that cheap?
  4. It's on Amazon and sold by onecall for 548 as well as stereo advantage for 548 free shipping with both. I've purchased from onecall before and had no issues so I'll probably go with them again. So you use an RCA sub cable for each of your seven channels going from your receiver to your amp? This is my first amp, I would have assumed that they made cables for just this application.
  5. Jason, funny, I was just looking at that one too but the one I saw was 569. I also, as a wild card was comparing the Marantz sr5005 but alas it's lacking the newest multeq xt. Ive added the 709 to the cart and will most likely get it tonight. Which cable do you use to connect your XPA-5 to your Onkyo? Any you'd recommend/recommend against? I need to pickup a handful of those too I think.
  6. Jason, thx for the heads up on accessories4less, if I go that route you've saved me some cash. I appreciate that. ***UPDATE***. I just noticed that that one is a refurb unit for 499, it did calculate free shipping but they may charge tax. I think for 48 bucks more and knowing that shipping is also free and that they don't add tax, I'd probably go with amazon on this one and just get a brand new one.
  7. Thanks for the feedback, Youthman. I feel its ok to be anxious at this point because I have done all of my homework. That's where you guys come in, last minute pros and cons that I may not have thought of. I think I've read nearly every single typed opinion to date on the UMC-1. I'm also confident that I'd know what I was getting in to with the 709. As far as selling the 609, I think I'd rather keep it and move it to another room vs take a beating selling it on CL. I'm at the end with respect to my researching this decision and now just need to make a choice. I'm leaning hard towards the 709 although I have entertained the idea of ordering both and then just sending back whichever i liked less. I don't want to deal with all of that shipping though. Also, why had you settled on the HK?
  8. Jason, You beat me to the punch about the pre-outs. We must have been typing at the same time, with me being more long winded
  9. Elite - your opinion is noted, thank you. Youthman - I can't try the new amp with my current avr because I made a rookie mistake and purchased one without any pre-outs The 609 will have to go to another room once the new amp shows up. Hence, why I'm anxious to replace it so the testing can begin. The 709 can be had for 548 (today) with the UMC at 499 as we all know, so the difference is really negligible. I'm also really looking for ease of use here because I'd say that my calibrating skills at this point are sub-par. And I'd like to avoid mis-steps where ever possible, I consider the 609 an $400 mis-step as its now useless to me in this application. It did work very well though with the Synergy's so I guess I can't be too hard on myself. Who knew I'd go to RF's that quickly and need more power, I certainly didn't.
  10. So, here's the scoop. I purchased an Onkyo TX-NR609 several months ago to run my Synergy 7.1 set up. Then I upgraded to a full RF 7.1 set up and now this receiver seems sorely underpowered for the RF's. I've decided to up the game with amps. I just bought an Emotiva XPA-5 today to start things off, knowing I didn't want to miss out on the sweet holiday pricing and needing an amp anyways. Here's the big question...and I know there are many fans of the UMC-1 here. Keeping my expense (the processor) at or less than 800. I'd like to hear some opinions on going with the TX-NR709, with it's sound processing abilities and somewhat un-needed amperage, VS the UMC-1 with sound processing abilities but no amperage.I've read lots of the negatives to the UMC-1 in regards to minor hiccups and firmware issues. I'm thinking the Onkyo would work very well considering that I plan on adding an additional 2-CH amp to the equation anyways, so I'd have the sound processing capabilities of the Onkyo plus the brute force of the Emotiva amps. Thoughts? My needs are 50/50 music/movie. I'm open to other suggestions, but know that I am dead set on amps as an add on. Thanks much!
  11. Gorm, I'd say that you got a sweet deal as well! It should be noted, that although I was very decisive, I did still take a week negotiating with this person ( asking price was 2500) before we actually made it happen. I couldnt agree with you more that those RF7's for 1575, SHOULD never sell at that price. They may, but let a great one help us all if they do. Cause that'd be ridiculous. And with shipping? Whos really that fond of the Maple anyways? Youthman, trying to share what I can, with experience comes wisdom, right? I love this forum and although I may have nary a multitude of experience to speak of, I hope that I can still add to this forum through MY experiences.
  12. First off, I'm amazed at how far this thread has gone. It's a true testament to the willingness of members to help another find a good deal and more importantly to make an educated decision. I commend you all. I must agree with what many have said in respect to patience and limits. I also do not think that an RC7 should fetch much more than 400-450. Newish, minty, whatever the case. It's an amazing speaker, don't get me wrong but it does not command 80-85% of retail, ever, IMO. I purchased all of the following together as a set, in minty shape - RF7's, RS7's, RC7, RSW15, half cherry and half not for the whopping total of....wait for it...1400. And recently rounded out the set with another pair of RS7's for 375. Does this happen everyday? No. Is this still a buyers market with respect to higher end equipment? Absolutely. All of these were acquired within the last six months, with the RS7's as recently as two days ago. Someone mentioned it earlier in this thread but patience is truly the key. Know what you want, don't take second best, have a limit, and most importantly be patient. It can pay off, big time. Also, with all of that being said, I did mention in the first post to this thread that there was an RC7 on Audiogon for 325 and it's still there the last I checked. Has no one jumped on this?! PS: being newish to this I apologize if mentioning what I paid is rude. I simply wanted to help someone understand that there are still huge deals to be had, with diligence and patience. Regards- Trev
  13. Wow, great idea and awesome cause! Donation sent. I'm looking forward to having this amazing print hanging over my RF7's! Thanks a bunch for this opportunity to own a piece of Klipsch history.
  14. I've also used Allofcraigs.com when needing to do a generic search for stuff. The local area search engine can be a bit hit or miss but it works well to find, RS7's for example, for sale all across the nation. However, the problem you run into then is obviously shipping. Lets just say Youthman's a pro Klipsch hunter PS: In case you hadnt gathered, this site searches all of Craigslist.
  15. You are right in that RS7's don't show up very often and neither does the Rc7. But, as others have pointed out they are matched perfectly and you'd be best suited waiting until they do pop up rather than getting something that you may not be happy with. I just picked up another pair of RS 7's off Audiogon yesterday (anxiously awaiting their shipment and I did also see an RC 7 on there as well for 325. Take a look.
  16. Gorm, I wish I lived near you if that's the case I've searched around on CL in my area and every area around me diligently EVERY single day for the past six months and have not seen one pair. So, my hopes of finding the cherry pair that I want are not looking very good so far. I'll keeping looking though, as that is how I acquired all of the 7's I have now. Where do you live anyhow that you're seeing all these 7's kicking around? Have a good day.
  17. I would love to have either RF7 or RF5 for the rears but they are seemingly impossible to find on the used market in my area. I'm not willing to pull the trigger on a new set of 7's as the cost is just too high for me right now. I'm really trying to stay in the 1k range (or less) for the rears. Has anyone seen a chart or have a general idea of just how much sound is sent to the rears, and the rest of the speakers for that matter, in a 7.2 set up? I'm thinking it is something like this 50% fronts, 30% sides, 20% rears but I could be way off. I guess I'm really trying to gauge the importance of overall sound quality in respect to where to put the best speakers I have.
  18. I can't comment on the WB-14 as I have not heard them, although I will say that the Icon line seems to be held to a slightly higher regard then the Snyergy in respect to overall sound quality. I can say though, that if you are looking to purchase B-20's definitely wait until they are on sale or search around on craigslist. I picked up a pair of B-3's off of Craigslist in mint condition for 80 bucks (these are the big brother to the B-2 which is equivalent to the current model B-20) and there are plenty of people that own Synergy and often sell them for cheap. At least that's been my experience. Good luck.
  19. Hey all, What's your opinion on using either of the above mentioned as rear surround in a 7.2 along side these>>>> RF7(fronts), RC7(center), RS7 (sides). I could move the RS7's to the rears if need be and utilize the RF82 or RF62 as sides. But my question is more so whether or not you think that they would match well. Currently im using F3's as the rears but would like to move up to an all RF home theater. Thoughts? Regards
  20. Yes, you are correct in that they would be used as the rears with the RC7's taking up the side positions. They would be replacing the F3's as rears. But, knowing that they are sonically different than the F3's, I still am on the fence because of the power handling.
  21. Do you guys think that the RB35 could keep up with the above mentioned if used only as the rear surround? I am currently using a pair of F3's but is has been pointed out that I would be better suited to utilize the reference line as my rears, thoughts? Thanks much
  22. Cornfedksboy, that's great info, thanks. I've got a couple very amateur questions....when you say "set the the crossover at 80hz are you referring to the settings in the receiver or on the Subwoofer itself? Also, I'm confused by the 0 or 180 phase setting on the Sub. I have previously had my other Sub set at 0 but this RSW was set at 180 when I got it. I have my sub placed about one foot to the left of the LF speaker and about four foot from the corner. When I have placed it closer to the corner the sound gets muddy, partially because my basement is finished with wood paneled walls and have no sound deadening material applied, yet. The previous owner of these reference had the sub placed about one foot to the left of the LF speaker but about 8 foot from the corner (larger room than mine). So are setups were/are very similar but the phase that we were each using was opposite of one another? Can you help me understand the difference between the settings? Anyone else can feel free to weigh in on this as well, thanks!
  23. Thank you, this is insightful and I'll have to test out different scenarios. I also didnt realize that I could not add an amp if I chose, that's a bummer. The wealth of information that has been provided to me is both amazing and very helpful. Luckily, I have been able through diligence and finagling to secure all of my Klipsch products at, I think, excellent prices that shouldn't make recouping costs too difficult. I feel like I've done well and could make a misstep or two without too much sacrifice. But, I obviously just want it all to sound the best that it possibly can and am willing to throw a few more dollars at it to make that happen. I wish that I had joined this forum before purchasing my receiver though, not being able to add an amp COULD be a big bummer going forward, we'll see. Thank you all for your input so far, its been more than helpful!
  24. Hi all! This is officially my second post and again I want to state that it's great to be a part of such an esteemed group of fellow Klipsch owners. Here's my question.... I have recently had the tremendous fortune to acquire a set of Klipsch reference at an amazing price, specifically the RF7,RC7,RS7,RSW15. Before these I had been using the full line of Synergy in my home theater, which included the F3,B3,S2,C2 and a BIC America 12" Sub. After purchasing the Reference series these obviously became my primary speakers but I have been using the F3's as my rear surround with these in a 15 foot by 18 foot room. Would anyone object to this? They are not getting serious wattage and seem to be complementing the Reference pretty well in this set up. I should mention that I am powering all of these with an Onkyo TX-NR609 in 7.1, I realize that I could or would be best suited to add some amps but they sound pretty good to me the way they are. Give me some feedback, I'm begging for it!
