  1. Almost anything that does not have women crying, talking about relationships or just with other women for more than 15 seconds, unless some clothes are missing and there is an explosion or gunfire shortly after, almost forgot little or no female type drama, or talking about dating, or............well you get the idea. Idea

Are you talking about in life or just the movies:)

  2. The two T's for sure.

There is a scene in The Book of Eli that has one of the best gun shooting scenes I have heard. Even with my wimpy surround it sounds good. With some solid surround I would bet it is even better. Its one of those ones that makes you look over your shoulder. I love those.

  3. Try THESE guys. I've used their kits and also had them do work for me. Highly recomended.

I second the recommendation. Also, if possible, try not to be too much of a tard about the look, unless you are doing it for a museum piece and not for the sound.

I can't believe that came from someone from this site:)

I guess my biggest concern is that because it is a different surround would a generic one work the same? Would it affect the sound?

  4. BTW, why don't you tell us where and what you found to be no good so that people don't just duplicate your good efforts. Smile.

I assume you are refering to the ones I got that where wrong? Every place I looked had the same wrong photo of the product but said it was for my speaker. I even verified the model # and size and brand. So I just ordered the cheapest one (even though the same photo was a stock type photo for a few different models/brands) and toke a chance. And I got what was in the photo and it was not the right one.

What I really want is an exact replacement instead of a generic replacement.

  5. I have a pair of Advent Legacy's from 1988 that need a foam job.

I can not seem to find any exact replacements.

Every photo I see for these are wrong. They look like the Klipsch one's.

I even ordered some from a place that said they are for my speakers and they are not right.

The ones I need are different than the usual ones.

Anyone have any idea's on where to find these?

Here is a pic for ref.

  6. I had a kind of similar problem with mine.

I had sub working with movies but not music.

My receiver was setup with the sub ON.

But what I figured out is that with the the receiver set to sub ON it only sent sound to the sub with 5.1 /7.1 sound.

Not 2.1 sound. I figured out the receiver has 3 sub settings. Off/On/Plus.

When I put it on Plus I now have sub with any type of input.

  7. Reminds me of the speakers I used to make for my car as a teenager.

My sub was a 12 in the top of a 5 gal bucket and some 6x9's in the lids of two more 5 gal buckets.

All that in the back of my chevette.

  8. About a year ago I was dead set on getting the mitsu 73 or 82".

Last years model compared to the one from two years ago was a great improvement in brightness.

Then this last fall when at the store looking at them for the 20th time I noticed the latest model for this year had a very different cover for the front.

I really did not like it. It was really shiny. It reflected a lot of light.

Then I saw the 70" 240 hz Sharp at Costco for $2599 and well.....

I have to say I am very happy with it so far.

A good test is to look at both the sharp 70" 120 and the 70" 240 quattron next to each other at the same time.

That was what really sold me on the quattron and the extra $800.

I have seen at best buy you can pay for a calibration for $250.

I have been happy with the color out of the box and do not plan on getting any calibration.

Another nice thing is how cool it runs. After it has been on for hours there is not a place on the whole TV that is anything more or less than room temperature.

  9. I know what you are saying.

I just got a Led Zepplin Box set a few months ago.

It just did not ever sound really good.

And I have come to the conclusion its the recordings.

Get a good SACD like Pink Floyd Dark side of the moon or Dire Straits Brothers in arms.

    I got them on Amazon.

Once you have a good recording you can compare them to the others.

  10. MPEG-4 is an AV standard, but all the audio format possibilities are compressed. There are both lossless and lossy compression formats allowed under MPEG-4, but who knows which one or ones were used for your files? If it was lossy compression, which is likely, then you can expect no increase in quality converting it back to wav (lossy means the data is lost, unrecoverable). If it was lossless you might get some small improvement converting them to wav files.

Regardless, you can find lots of converters just by googling "mpeg4 to wav converter".

    Lou

The only reason I would want to convert is for my truck I put a lot of music on a USB Flash and I do not think it is reading MPEG-4. It does the MP3 and WMA ok. I guess I should check if it does WAV. I do the same with my A/V Receiver and it only will play MP3, WMA and Wav. It will not read MPEG-4. I guess that is only where it really matters that I need better quality at home.

  11. It looks like I will be spending a lot of time putting in cd's again and reripping in the WAV format. Oh joy.

What about mpeg-4 files? I have some on my computer but I would like to turn them into WAV.

I do not have the cd's so I would need to convert somhow. Any one know how to do this?

I am anti apple so I don't want anything to do with any Igarbarge crap.
