  1. Yippie, I swapped all the cables with known good ones, then swapped the cable box and voila, had a picture, I put the old cable box back in and wiggled the coax and sure enough, it has an intermittant connection. Hopefully that's all it is. Maybe the nr809 was a victim of the same problem, but I don't thing so as there were other issues all well. It would be nice if the nr809 worked, I could sell it. By the way, I sold the used Anthem avm50 pre/pro I bought earlier, too complex for me and no usb or networking. I kept the Anthem 5 channel amp and am using it with the Nr818, althought it may not need it, it can't hurt.
  2. 2011 Samsung series 550 5plus, 64 inch.
  3. Hummm...never heard of this issue. I have switched many times back and fourth between 3-4 HDMI connections on my Denon 4811 and never seen that issue at all. You are fortunate. Google " denon hdmi handshake" and you will see others aren't so lucky
  4. Quote ...I'm guessing since you have the same problem with a new receiver that the fault lies elsewhere. Have you tried a factory reset on both the tv and the blu-ray player? Also if you haven't already, use a different hdmi input on the tv if available. good suggestion, I'll will check both tomorrow. When the 809 was acting up I put my older 708 in the system and it worked perfectly
  5. I bought a used Onkyo TX-NR809 in the spring and had nothing but trouble with it. It started out being slow to switch from Blueray to Cable , then it wouldn't switch at all, or wouldn't give me any signal to the TV from either source Did a lot of research and apparently HDMI handshake[lack of] is a common issue and not just with Onkyo. In the end I had to pull the power plug for a few hours and it would work for awhile. Anyway, i took it in for non warranty service and they say they can't fix it. So I bought a brand new NR818 last week and it is doing the exact same thing. I just watched a Blue ray movie and then wanted to watch the Charlotte race and no signal to Tv. It is not a cable issue as the Onkyo logo appears on the Tv screen, I have swapped the cables several times as well. So now I have to take the new one back and insist the replace it rather than send it in for warrnty service. If they send it in for service I am without my system for who knows how long. Any techies out there that know what is up with this stuff? Should I get a refund an change brands? If so, what?
  6. Anyone used a Paradigm Dsp-3400. There is a used one local. This is for the room with the Rf7's and it's a large room, 20x37
  7. Great movie and sound track/effects. Watched it on my samsung 64 and klipsch system
  8. I don't get out much... anyone heard of this stuff, spoke to a local guy online who has a 7.3 setup, all self powered. he has an integra pre/pro for sale and I asked what he had for an amp. No amp, all in the speakers Seaton sound http://www.seaton-sound-forum.com/ http://www.seaton-sound-forum.com/post/Product-Listing-Availability-Status-and-Pricing-3364736
  9. Yes, you are correct, I did some looking after your post and without an external xover, no gain at all and not something I would pursue. Thanx
  10. Why no bi-amp? My klipsch dealer recommended it .
  11. Well, I made an impulsive purchase. I wanted to get separates to replace the Onkyo 809 in my RF7ii system. Anthem have an excellant rep for good gear so I started looking for some used stuff and got an AVM50 pre/pro and a PVA5, 5 channel amp. I didn't research the details on the AVM to the degree I should have. I has no USB nor is it networkable. It does have an rs-232 jack to connect to a pc for firmware. It is also of an age that it didn't come with the ARC room correction software which I assumed was included. The setup process is VERY daunting, so much so, I unplugged it and put the Onkyo back in the loop with the PVA5. This is a great combo, although I should have gotten a 7 channel amp so I could bi-amp the RF7's. Not knocking the Anthem as a product, it just may not be the right one for me. I think I'll hook it up without speakers or an amp and see how I make out with the firmaware and setup.
  12. I already have this blueray/sacd etc player in my 5.1 room. great stuff http://www.cambridgeaudio.com/summary.php?PID=887&Title=Azur+651BD+Universal+Blu-ray+Player After further consideration and the fact my "bud" wants $100 not 50 for his Arcan, and offered to sell it and refund if I didn't like it, I think I'll keep what I have for my 2 channel room. I just receiver the used 5.1 stuff I scooped, Anthem avm50 and pva 5 , so that will keep busy me for awhile. Thanx for the feedback guys.
  13. Ha, good point. Maybe we could consider the eariler part of their relatively short life span as vintage. He is going to let me try the Arcam. If I can hear a difference I'll scoop it. He only wants $50 for it. Thanx for the suggestion.
  14. Hi folks. I have a friend recommending I get a vintage cd for my setup. Currently I have a Cambrigde audio 640 integrated amp, c/a 550 tuner, a yamaha s550 dvd/ca player. these are playing thru vintage Mirage 750's, which I love, room size about , 12 x 18. This is not high end stuff but has a great warm sound, the speakers disappear and fill the room with sound He has an Arcam Alpha 7 and Rotel 955AX which he says will compliment the rest of my hardware better than the Yamaha. Any thoughts, Is there are reason the older stuff would sound any better than the Yamaha. I'm not a techy guy but would expect the newer unit would have better sampling and dac.
  15. yippee, got a Anthem pva 5 in Canada to fit my budget.
  16. thanx for the referals guys, I'm looking for a black face plate if I can get one. this guy has what I'm looking for , item 6, but hasn't responded to a few emails http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/details/649007005-mark_levinson_no_332/
  17. thanks, I'll look into it. There are some used Anthems in Toronto and Montreal area. Trying to make a deal on something.
  18. I have asked Bill if he will ship it to me, we'll see what he says. Thanx for the tip.
  19. You are correct of course, that item is a long way from the Anthem that I bought. I just got freaked by the price. So my local dealer can get me a new pva5 around $1600. not bad. Used are hard to find. The Acuras above sounds great but is 200w and I'm thinking 125 is where I need to be. I haven't checked the price. He may not want to ship to Canada, which is no different from shipping from Newark to Queens, just an extra piece of paper. I'm not in a rush, existing gear would be great if I didn't have this bug to have more stuff. It's all good
  20. how about this, enough to run the Rf7ii ?????? not a big volume guy. http://shop.emotiva.com/collections/amplifiers/products/upa500 The other part of my consideration is the size of the case, smaller the better for me. A new Anthem pva 5 is 5 times the cost of this one By the way, I can never find thew garage, got a link?
  21. Folks , I am selling my Onkyo 809. I scooped an Anthem AVM 50 , used. http://www.anthemav.com/products/anthem/a-v-processor/avm-50v-3d Mine is the previous version, not 3d I would like to find the best choice for an amp to go with it. First option would be the Anthem PVA 5. They are running about $800 used in Canada. http://www.anthemav.com/products/anthem/amplifier/pva-series/pva-5 My Klipsch set up is.. RF7ii, RC62ii, RB61ii and rw10d. in a big room. 20x37 with 9 foot ceilings. Yes, I know I should have a RC64ii, it's on the list. Not much sound damping at this time. Rears are placed at about 15 feet back from fronts Emotiva, Outlaw and few others come to mind. What do we think would compliment the above for under 1k. Music and sound stage considered over volume. Warm, not bright.
  22. What about this one, I'm not a pro on reading the specs, but I think it's well made. about $600 new. http://www.cambridgeaudio.com/summary.php?PID=887&Title=Azur+651BD+Universal+Blu-ray+Player
  23. sorry, I should have said the 'gym' is a room, in my house. Actually it's my Ht room which I am not ready to use yet, so it's being used as a home gym, 12x15
