  1. I agree, my Onkyo 809 powers the RF7's just fine. I have an Emotiva XPA-2 sitting here setup in my HIFI for the past 6 months or so that I haven't hooked up yet. I haven't really seen the need to.
  2. I was hoping maybe someone more knowledgeable with Audyssey would chime in but all Ic an say is from what I've read on avsforum, xt32 is significantly better for sub configuration than xt.
  3. I just purchased an XPA-2 for my RF-7 ii's. I'm thinking of getting an rc-64 ii and some rs-62 ii's. My receiver currently is a Onkyo 809. Rather than buy another amp. Do you guys think that the 809 could drive the 2 surrounds and the center ok?
  4. It's a good receiver, plenty of power. It has Audyssey MultiEQ, though I never got audyssey tuned in how I like it. ( I currently have it off ). Only downside if you have a sub is now multieq xt32 which has better bass management for that. Overall a good AVR, 699 is a decent price, I think I paid 799 for mine a few months ago.
  5. For the uninitiated, here is the link to it. http://larchive.avsforum.com/www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1283375 It's a bunch of clips, I'm not sure of the legality of the disc :\ There is a mediafire link with the torrent for the bluray image. There is also this newer thread it appears. http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=1391873 Thank you JasonJCarney
  6. I second Master and Commander. I'd never seen the movie. I watched it last night. Sounded beautiful on my setup. I only wish I had surrounds.
  7. The 2011 panasonic plasmas are on sale right now. You can get a 65" for 1700$ off amazon. Just fyi. TC-p65st30 Hah just realized elitedemo beat me to it. Derp.
  8. I doubt that 140wpc is all 5 channels driven. It wouldn't be a bad idea to try an xpa-5 if you are going 5.1. It can probably do 3 channel without much issue though I'd imagine. Listen to it, and if you can't drive it to the volumes you like, get an amp. My onkyo 809 (135 wpc) drives my 2 rf-7 ii's pretty well. I got an xpa-2 just to see if I can blow the roof off the house.
  9. _benjamin - nice ben harper art there. Is that just a poster?
  10. I dont' have an AC unit in this southerly room that i have my amp and receiver in and summer is soon to be coming. I'm curious, what sort of options are available and what you guys use to keep your avr's/amps cool?
  11. Large but only because I don't have a sub yet.
  12. I would say they CAN overwhelm your room but they certainly sound fairly good in mine. Heck that is what the volume control is for My room is a bit smaller yet has higher ceilings probably. 15x20x15ft ceiling.
  13. I bought a Rythmik F15HP sub and it has it's own crossover settings on it's amp. I'm curious if I should set a crossover then in my receiver for the RF-7's or just run them full band? If I set it to 80, anything below will go to the sub? What is the need for having a crossover setting on the sub then?
  14. Oh sorry , yes it was the bluray. Watched it a few days ago.
  15. Do you mean where he jumps into the sea and causes a tsunami? Yes that pretty much destroyed my rf-7's. It convinced me I need a sub.
  16. followup, what is the effect of the 2? meaning. why did you choose large or small?
  17. From what I've read on other forums, this movie is just an LFE monster. We'll see how it sounds once my sub arrives. I think it was just too low and too much even for the rf-8 ii's.
  18. Anyone watch this new movie yet? I watched it earlier tonight on my system. I think I need a sub or something. The LFE sounded horrible, scratchy and just sloppy. Curious what you guys thought of it.
  19. B grade vs A grade? what is this?
  20. Thanks for the help everyone. I think I may still get an amp, either 2 or 5 channel. I'd like to maybe just hear the difference. Is everyone a pretty big fan of the XPA-2's and 5s?
  21. I'm curious. What's the best steps to use when determining your power needs? Are there cheap measurement devices that can tell you how much you are using? I've got all of my home theater running off a 15amp circuit at the moment. Misu 65" dlp, onkyo 809 receiver, xbox, satellite box, wifi router. I plan on adding a sub to this outlet and a separate amp (prob xpa-2). I'm just curious what I can do to make sure I don't go over. What have you all done in regards to your home theaters?
  22. *redacted* Wups, this was supposed to be a pm
  23. Hm, connected my iphone directly. Looks like the distortion was coming from airplay. That's good to know. I guess it was the source. I do need to push the volume pretty high on this receiver to get it loud. I'm at about -22dB atm. Is that high?
  24. Anyone know a place i can go to nearby(MI, or not so nearby) that would be able to look at my speakers? I've really not been happy with them since day 1.
