  1. The source sounds find through headphones. No real crossover configuration on this 809 that I can see. It's only a 2 channel setup. nothing else. I agree it doesn't seem like I should need an amp given it's only 2 channel and they are very sensitive. yet everyone seems to say they do better with one. The distortion is only there wh en i mess with the EQ. So it's prob just me causing the distortion. Ugh, if i turn it up it sounds horrible.
  2. hmm perhaps you are right. i'm not sure. See my post above 5 posts up I'm not against buying something The onkyo isn't a slouch though is it? I mean it's 135WPC.
  3. Is it just me or are the rf-7ii's kind of lacking in the very low end? I'm not one to listen to rap but I listened to this song recently and the bass was fairly weak. EQ'ing the bass only made the speakers distort like crazy.
  4. Well i just mean this post. not my acct Boxx
  5. Hey I was thinking of getting a new amp(2channel) for my system. I was thinking the XPA-2, but it's backordered til April I guess. Anyone have any thoughts on a similar amp for the price?
  6. So lets pretend I never opened this thread Tipped the behemoths over and looked underneath. Staring me right in the face. *edit Actually. wouldn't you guess. one of them doesn't have them. (got each speaker separate. Nuts!) At least now I can take one back OUT of the other and go to my local hardware store
  7. is it not possible to delete your own post?
  8. Odd request but I bought some open box rf7's and the stands for the bottom didn't come with any screws, just the spikes. I'm just curious if anyone knows what type they are(width, length, thread #) Chris
  9. I'm curious what suggestions anyone might have for a stereo or 2 mono tube amps for my RF7-IIs. Budget is not much unfortunately. Around 1000 or so. Regards, Chris
  10. Are you going to try the Outlaw? I found half of my static was somehow caused by Audyssey. I'm not sure exactly what it was changing but it made playback sound horrible. Though I only heard a slight buzz in my tweeters and nothing playing if I put my ear to it. Can you hear it when it is at your listening position?
  11. Are the cheap measurement devices you see at radioshack fairly decent for gauging that?
  12. Would it be a bad idea to put a XPA-2 or 3 on this once I get one? It seems like it should handle it since the max my outlet can handle is 2000w.
  13. Thanks for the listen Quiet_Hollow. I've done severla A/B tests and there's definite STATIC coming out of these tweeter horns and I just dont know why. I can adjust the levels to minimize it a bit. I'm looking into a power conditioner to try and help things. The attentuator information is interesting but I'm not using any preamp at the moment, just the AVR. I really don't know much about what sort of gain the Onkyo 809 has.
  14. I'm looking at two major brands and I'm curious what you all think Tripp Lite LC2400 http://www.tripplite.com/en/products/model.cfm?txtModelID=2845 and APC H15 http://www.apc.com/resource/include/techspec_index.cfm?base_sku=h15 The Tripp Lite is about 50$ cheaper but seems to offer a lot more headroom as far as wattage output , 2400W vs 1500VA. I have a 15A circuit to the wall. I was suggested by an electrician to get more than what the outlet can provide. To help with any small surges. So I'm thinking the Tripp Lite. The APC looks to be a more professional unit though. What do you all think? My equipment is a Mitsu TV (200 watts) , HTPC(400watts max), xbox (not sure), AVR- ONkyo 809 and Dish PVR. I will be adding an XPA-2 or XPA-3 to this Power conditinoer soon.
  15. Do you(sub) hear the static/hiss when listening? Or just putting your ear up to them? I definitely hear it a bit when playing using just the standard Onkyo output. I"m confused though, if the Rotel gives you dead silent playback. Why not just use that? Sorry if I'm hijacking the thread Sub, just looking at amps myself at the moment. I would definitely feel the same as you. I want dead silence. noise bothers me to no end. I use to have a nice pair of JH13 in ear headphones that reproduce some crystal clear audio. It's made me very finnicky about any issues with sound.
  16. subxero, coming from someone who has had his fair share of headache with noise coming out of his speakers. I'm curious what power condition you have. I've still not 100% resolved my own woes regarding my sensitive rf7-ii's
  17. Does anyone know much about having these checked out for warranty replacement or repair? They were openbox from the place I got them from but should have a 1 year warranty. Regards, Chris
  18. I supposed it would make sense if the cable isn't connected. You are effectively killing power to the unbalanced side I would imagine. How much are we talking for a low noise floor amp? Anyone have any suggestions? I'd be willing to at least try it and resell it if it doesn't help.
  19. No noise from the horn at all with just receiver on? I do have to put my ear to them to hear this. I know these speakers were openbox but I really can't believe they'd send me 2 defective speakers. I don't imagine I've damaged them either in the short time I've had them. Argh.
  20. Thanks for the book. It looks interesting. I did try a couple outlets in the house. (Yes dragging this 90lb behemoth), with just the receiver plugged in. The buzzing noise does increase as I increase the volume on the receiver. It doesn't ever go away though. If i put it to the minimum I can still hear the noise from the horn. I thought it might be an EMI issue as well with all the components behind my tv etc, so I went ahead and disconnected everything. The only thing connected and powered was my receiver and speakers. The noise remained unfortunately. I even took the receiver and speaker to another outlet in the house in the Kitchen. The noise seemed to still be there. The thing is, with no source, the buzzing is there, but low, I can only hear it if I put my ear to tweeter. But if I'm playing a silent movie or something very quiet, I can hear what I can best describe as a hot mic. Like you see in the movies and others may know professionally. Just what sounds like a lot of background noise. I did try disabling Audyssey and I A/B'd it a bit while playing and it does actually seem like it helped a bit. Is there something wrong with these speakers? Should I be looking at different amps if this is a noise floor problem? I'd be interested in getting an amp to fix it, but I'm curious if others with RF-7's here have had this issue. I know there are several people here in this subforum with them. :\
  21. Sure, http://community.klipsch.com/forums/t/156098.aspx I can't really say I know enough about amps to make an informed decision on what my preferences would be as far as SS/Tube, mono or stereo. My main concern and preference would be something that would be best at reducing this issue I have at the moment. Budget, I'd say around. 1000-1500.
  22. I've been having some issues with my RF7's bothering me with a low hiss noise from the tweeter/horn. I've been told this is likely from the amp. It does this on both the Denon 2112 and Onkyo 809 I have. I'm curious what amp you all would suggest for these high sensitivity speakers? I thought I'd ask here since I've found many people in this subforum own RF7's.
  23. Perhaps not brand or model but is there a particular type or specification I should be looking for exactly? *edit* I should notice this AVR has pre-outs. I'm strictly speaking an amp, not a new AVR. *edit2* I'm asking this as a general question to everyone I spose. I mean, if you aren't sure Russ. I do appreciate the help so far, verymuch. Thank you.
  24. Would there be any benefit to getting a different amp? Have any suggestions? I'd be willing to try one. As for me knowing how to change all the settings, I'm actually not at all familiar But I'm going through it now to see if there's anything I can turn off, Audyssey, Dynamic Volume, I've both disabled.
