  1. KlipschHT, Please, never apologize for a lengthy post, at least not to me--I appreciate the thorough explanation from you, among others, a great deal! Thanks. I do have one question for you, however: If I buy my intended set of Klipsch speakers, and I upgrade down the road with a better, more powerful receiver, and I purchase a solid amp, you said that my "fate will be sealed. :-)" I'm guessing you equate that level of commitment to selling my soul to the devil?--I will forever be indebted to the AV HT Gods??? ;-) If so, should I bring a bandage for when I sign in blood? ;-)
  2. Lucky for me, I only have the neighbors to worry about--I'll leave them a "p*ssing off the neighbors" t-shirt when I move (ha ha)! As for the wife, kids, and pictures of them all, it's just me for now, so I don't have to worry about sleeping in the back yard--I knew one day I'd eventually find the silver lining to being single! ;-)
  3. Thanks for the notification about the three-channel amp. I'm really torn, but I think I'm going to just "test" what I already have, once I order my speakers (probably within a week or so) at least for now. Here's how I see it: I know I'll need to upgrade in order to utilize the speakers' full potential; however, I can't give them what they need without getting another, more expensive receiver (leaving a brand new one sitting here for nothing), and once I have the room (and power) to turn them loose, I'm guessing there's a good chance I might want to include an additional amp, as well (possibly multiple ones). I'm gonna hold off on my upgrades for now--who knows, it may sound better than I am expecting, and I might be content for the time being. Trust me, anything is an upgrade from what I have now. Thanks again.
  4. Tasdom, that's a heck of a deal--glad to hear it worked so well for you! An eight-woofer speaker--that looks awesome, too! Scrappy, I'll have to look that one up, Man--it sounds pretty kick-***! I didn't even know B&W made one, but I have something new to play with the next time I go window shopping (thanks).
  5. Bill, thanks for advising me on that! Other than "hot to the touch," is there a way I can tell how much power I'm running to the speakers (so as to avoid 'reaching' that level?) OR, is there a way to keep the decibel level low enough so I'm getting a respectable level of sound without overheating the receiver/putting it into "protection mode?" What are my options? Would I need one amp to take some of the burden off the Onkyo? Can I buy one that will work for all three front channel speakers? I'm just wondering. If it was you, what would you suggest? Thanks.
  6. Yeah, I know I'm never gonna be able to turn those beasts loose where I am now, but soon enough, I'll give them what they deserve!!
  7. Youthman, Thanks for all your suggetions, advice, and explanations--it is much appreciated! I think what I am leaning towards right now is sticking with my Onkyo (unless I find a great deal on something way better) and only going with 5.1 for movies. I will probably mostly just use a two-channel stereo setup 95% of the time when listening to music or watching television. + 1 (thanks for all the help in your PM, too!)
  8. Leone, I have listened to about 8 or 10 sound bars. When I first heard Klipsch had one, I was thrilled. After listening to it, I was, with all due respect, not so thrilled. It sounds fine--don't get me wrong--and I'm sorry I don't' recall the specifics; however, I've listened to a friend's "Boston" (2011 model that came with a sub, about $350 from Best Buy) and it sounds great! I was recently in Best Buy, and I think Boston has a new soundbar (it was new to my BB, also with a soundbar)--it was around $500, but it sounds fantastic! It's sound is much, much fuller, even with the bass down low. As far as I know, Bose only makes one soundbar, and it costs almost $1500, and as much as I hate to say this, it's the most impressive soundbar I've heard to date. I vote for the new "Boston" for the money, or even last year's model, but everyone's ears are different. Let me know if I can be of further help. Happy hunting, Flicker
  9. I asked this question in a different chatroom, and someone suggested I move it here. I am looking into an HT setup (5.1 for now, 7.1 down the road) and I want to use Klipsch RF-7s, RC-64, and RS-62s (all series ii). Right now, I have an Onkyo TS-NR609 that I bought brand new and has never been used, and I need to know what you guys all think: Can this reciever (7.2 capable @ 100w/channel) safely power this Reference setup? I "know" I don't have the ability, due to where I am currently living, to utilize anything close to the RF-7s capabilites, so cranking them up just won't happen, but I would rather invest in great speakers now with a decent receiver and wait until I move to upgrade to something better (mid to high-level receiver or maybe even separates). I know the Onkyo is not "ideal" for RF-7s, but will it work without "underpowering" the speakers to the point where damage may occur? I have heard of potential problems with "clipping" from underpowering them and something about dips into a range far below 8 Ohms, and this concerns me a great deal. Feel free to dumb-down your responses or explain them in detail because I know next to nothing about receivers. Thanks for you help in advance!
  10. I'm pricing my options for a 5.1 or 7.1 home theater setup with Klipsch RF-7s, and I was wondering what you guys thought would be a good receiver for this setup. Right now, I have an Onkyo TS-NX609 (100w/channel) but I'm thinking of upgrading. Someone mentioned looking for a used model from last year, specifically a Pioneer Elite SC-55, would this be enough, too much, or do you recommend something else. I'm new to this stuff, so any explanations as to "why" it would be good would be very much appreciated. What specifications or features are most important to look for? Do I need an additional "amp" to power my receiver? (Still not sure how this works). Thanks in advance!
  11. Derrick, I just sent you a pm with some questions. Thanks.
  12. I emailed the seller twice already--I was going to buy it--but, there's no other contact info., and I have heard nothing (not gonna drive an hour and start randomly knocking on doors, ya know). [] I'll just keep looking.
  13. Let me tell you this, if it was local to me, I would ask for a demo and if all is good, I would own it. The price is a steal IMO. Make sure all HDMI inputs and outputs work properly if seller will allow. Usually with modern AVR's, if anything goes wrong, it is usually with HDMI. Bill Hey, I researched that receiver, and I took your advice and contacted the seller--it does sound like a great deal!--but I haven't heard anything yet. I don't want to pass up a great deal, but I would like to make everything happen within the next few weeks. It's over an hour away, but I'm going to see if I can demo it it person. Will let you know what happens if you're interested. Thanks, again, Bill!
  14. Ivanhurd, thanks for the tip. I am going to try online, get a few quotes, and see who wants to beat whom by way of price. I 'know' my local store won't come close to matching any online price--they're they only dealer within 60 miles or so--their lowest price was about 5K, so it looks like I'm going to "test" the online route. I read your review--good luck with the little one! Stay safe. Thank you for doing what you do for the rest of us!!
  15. Hey, thanks for the info and the link. I bought 100' of Monster last year--I got it buy-one-get-one, so 200 feet only cost me $65. However, I'm not certain what gauge it is. Everyone seems to have the same problem with this cable. Would it be okay to run this with RF-7s less than 10 feet in length? How about 20 feet for surrounds? Thanks
  16. Ref, Thanks for the suggestion--it looks like a better receiver is the way I should go--but I also have some cash set aside for a tv budget. Someone said I could get the whole system for only a few hundred more than $3,200. I would prefer to buy in bulk, hopefully get a better deal. Do you trust buying online? Is it safe? Do you get a warranty? Return policy?
  17. Scrappydue, Thanks for shedding some light on prices for me! What does "pm" me mean? I'm not really familiar with the lingo and the mechanics of this forum. How do I "pm" someone? I apologize if this response doesn't wind up in the right place. Sometimes it seems like my responses go right under the comment I'm responding to; other times, it just shows up at the bottom of the page--can you shed some light on why this is, please? Are these speakers new? Are they damaged? B-grade? Why would they be so cheap? Klipsch retails (2) RF-7s, (2) RS-62s, and (1) RC-64 (series II) for like $5,800. Even the nearest dealer from here wants about $5k for the set. How could they sell them that cheap?
  18. Bill, Thanks for the link! I checked it out. It's a three-year-old model, but the seller only wants a couple hundred bucks!--I emailed him. Is the price so cheap just beacuse it's a few years old? I don't mind a used receiver, nor something a couple years old, but is that a reasonable price? I 'never' looked into used electronics before. What do you think? Seems like a steal to me. By the way, that receiver seems like it's about 10 times better than what I have now! What is the shelf life for something like that???
  19. Duder, Thanks for the welcome, and it's good to hear my expectations for longevity seem practical. Awesome user name, by the way!--a friend of mine uses Duder all the time. Oh, my current room is as follows: 18x12x8 high. Problem is tv is on the long (18-ft) wall, and there is an open stairwell where the left wall would ideally be, and there are two open doorways (one on each side of the television) so, it's pretty "open." I think Rf-7s should have no problem filling it, however.
  20. Thanks for the suggestions, Bill. From what I've learned thus far, I don't think my receiver is going to serve me well for what I really want to do--originally, I planned on using a much less powerful set-up, so the Onkyo 'was' (then) a good choice--but it's been sitting for a year on my shelf (literally collecting dust) and I might as well use it. When you say I can listen with it at "moderate" levels, do you mean something like 1/2 power (half-way up the volume dial) or quieter than that? I just don't want to have to keep it so low that you won't know it's a good quality speaker?
  21. Hello, I joined this forum last year when I was looking for advice about a self-gifted 30th-birthday present. I purchased a Klipsch Synergy home theater package, along with an Onkyo TX-NR609 receiver, but I found a local dealer a week later that sold Reference Series speakers, so I returned the Synergy speakers, and I kept the receiver, and I started looking at some speakers of higher quality. By the way, Klipsch confirmed the store as an authorized Klipsch dealer. Anyway, some things came up, and I could no longer make the investment, but I'm back in the market, and I want to do this correctly. About a year ago, I checked out Klipsch Reference speakers for the first time, and it was awesome! I was impressed with the overall quality of the entire line (especially when compared to the Synergy and Icon series speakers, which initially impressed me, as well); however, the dual-woofer surrounds caught my attention, and so did two of their floorstanders. The RF-82ii was great, but the RF-7ii brought the sound quality to another level--it just stopped me right where I stood, and I was simply in awe! I listened to some products from Best Buy's Magnolia stores, and Martin Logan, Definitive Technology, and Bowers and Wilkins are all great speakers, but nothing impressed me the way those RF-7ii speakers did. I've been doing my homework, although most of my knowledge is theoretical, but I believe it must be something about the dual 10-inch cerametallic woofers paired with the 1.75-inch titanium driver that blends the sound so well (at least to my ears)--in the end, that's all that really matters, right? Anyway, my point is that I'm looking to upgrade my television and get much better sound quality at the same time. I set aside enough for a new t.v. and 2 RF-7s but not much else. I am wondering if I can simply purchase a set of new RF-7s (about $3,200) and power them through my Onkyo TX-NR609 receiver? I want to complete the system down the road (after I move in another year or so) with a RC-64ii and RS-52s or RS-62s, and finish it with a nothing-too-fancy sub. I'm not into bass the way most people are, and I don't like the idea of spending this much money without a warranty. I was hoping if I did it the right way, I could enjoy this system for at least a decade--is that a safe bet with Klipsch quality? I know I won't be utilizing a good portion of their capabilities without running an amp/pre-amp/or whatever most people do, but can I simply connect 2 RF-7s to my receiver and hear great sound quality for cable television and cds? I assume I would just utilize stereo mode, so can I do this "without" any danger of blowing out/clipping (damaging of any kind) my speakers under reasonable listening conditions??? That is my major concern. Anyway, I wanted to give some background about myself and my goals to better inform anyone willing to help. To all those who helped me a year ago, I greatly appreciate it! It feels great to be in the market again! I really love this Klipsch Forum, Flicker
  22. Thank you for the clarification--not all of it makes sense to me, but it makes me think buying separates is much safer for the system. It looks like I will probably head in that direction, but I will keep doing some research in the meantime.
  23. I was looking at the sensitivity rating on the RF-7IIs, and I thought I would not be listening at make-your-ears-bleed levels, but I would like the ability to really let them breathe at a later date, when I have the space to do so. I will check out the forums. Thanks for your suggestions.
  24. Thanks for that. I see you are running RF-7s, though, so I must ask what YOU recommend?
  25. Hey, thanks, Bruce. I am using a pain-in-the-butt MAC via Safari--good call! I will give it a try; thanks again!
