  1. I do like to play them loudly at times 108 decibels. Not always -I sit about 15 feet away. I play drums and have done alot of studio work - I do like to hear music as I hear it live.. The Cornwalls can get a little bright on top . i think they sound realistic. I also own a set of B&W 801 F's -the Krell KSA 250 worked with them . I do think the cornwalls have a much more expansive sound. I have heard them with low wattage tube amps very low 1/2 to 2 watts. Tubes do sound great - but as stated earlier - have to play at low levels with low wattage tube amps.. I will look for a tube amp that has around 30 to 50 watts - I have heard the older Scott tube amps are great. i know tube amps do not need as much power like my Krell. I love the speakers - My Budy Rich CDs are really too bright - That has alot to do with the recordings . The Eagles live DVD sounds very good in DTS Music mode. Thanks for your response.
  2. I own a set of Cornwalls from the early 80's. I presently using a Krell KSA 250 amp and Krell Showcase pre amp. the set up is great but a littlle harsh at times with horns. I have had the pleasure of hearing them with low wattage tube amps. The sound is amazing but i do like to play them loudly at times - low wattage tube amps cannot handle. Is it difficult to bi amp - thus using the Krell 250 as the amp for the 15;s and a tube amp for the mid and upper horns. I need some advice. Can I just unhook 15's speaker leads from inner crossover and hook to an external crossover? What kind of external crossover is recommended and what brand . Is it worth it . I would rather not spend 2,000 on a all tube amp is I can avoid. Need advice thanks
  3. Need some advice - I would like to bi amp my Cornwalls . I have a Krell KSA 250 amp would like to use this amp to power the 15's. Can I use existing crossover inside the Cornwalls and just unhook the 15's from the panel and run to external crossover? Also what brand of crossover should I get for external crossover? I would like to put a tube amp in the sysytem to power the horns. Any info would help me. the Krell does sound great - but can be a little harsh with the horns in the Cornwalls.
  4. I need some advice. I purchased a used Cornwalls just prior to the holidays . I have been bringing them back - cleaning cab, grill cover and replaced the 15's with the help of Mr. Crites. I would like to find out what is the best way to bi amp them. I would like to use a tube amp for the mid and upper horns and a transistor amp for the 15's. I am currently using Krell equip. A Krell KSA 250 for amp and Krell Showcase Pre amp. I do love to play them loudly at times . However I have heard them with tube amps and the sound is just magical. I would love to have both worlds. So I thought bi amping would be the way to go. My questions are 1. Is it easy to do 2. Do I need to not use the crossover in the Cornwalls ( like un hooking bass drivers to original crossover? ) 3. What is a decent crossover - brand /price? 4. Where should i go to find this kind of equip.? In Tube amps what kind of wattage would I need to work with the Krell KSA 250? I would like to be able to play them loudly when needed. I am also lookinf for the Brass logo plates for the grills - Klipsch does not make anymore . The other train of thought is to buy a pricy high wattage tube amp - what do you guys think - Help - I do love these Cornwalls -
  5. I own a set of Cornwalls made in 1984. I may need to replace one of the 15 inch speakers - it pops on occasion on loud bass notes. Does anyone know the exact driver name and number? Can i get a replacement? Where should I look ? Can I still buy new? I want to get the right speaker -No popping a low to mid volume levels. i have also been looking for a set of the metal plate logos.
  6. Recently purchased a set of klipsch LaScalas . Purchase came with Mcintosh MX114 pre amp and MC2505 amp . Amp has 50 watts per side. The MX114 has popping sounds when warming up . My audiphile friend down the street thinks one or more of the caps are bad. First question - is it worth fixing ? Is this a good pre amp ? I also wonder if I have enough power in amp ? Should I look for a more powerful amp? I do like to listen at all levels - I do like the live sound from the LaScalas when played loud. I have the feeling that a more powerfull amp like the Mac 2105 or 2205 would enhance the total sound spectrum - especially the low end. What do you think ? My friend loves tube amps - He brought a few over - all very low output watts.75 to 1 1/2 - The speakers sounded great at low listening levels .We both agreed ,need a more powerful push pull tube amps - which could get into big bucks. We both thought maybe a tube pre amp would solve one of my problems. Ido like the MX114 - I used to own am audible illusions Modulus 3 - i also miss the lower bottom that the speakers do not seem to produce. I have been using a sub . My audio friend hates it , says it muddies up the sound field. I do my best to balance the sub and speakers. What do you feel is best for my listening tastes? I love all types of music from classical, Big band jazz to jimi Hendrix. I do like to play at what I feel to be at near live volume levels. Havinf Fun with Klipschs . I used to own a set of Cornwalls - they had a better bottom end - the LaScalas have a smoother mid and upper end. Trying to make improvements at one otem at a time - What do you think? Pre amp, amp ? any thought on what may work . Audio Research pre amp? What tube amps work best ? There is a used Mc 2205 on net ?
  7. How is the bass driver situated in the Cabinet ? It the speaker facing the front or rear of cabinet? Is there an opening in the back to let out bass sound, the front V is closed ? Curoius to how the bass driver works,
  8. Just purchased a used set of La Scalas - I have a few questions 1. Should I connect to 8 ohms or 4 ohms to amp. I am using a Mcintosh Mc 2205 amp ( 50 per side ) and a Mcintosh MX114 Per Amp. 2. My serial numbers are LS BB 311738 and 311739 - does anyone know when they were made. 3. Can I still purchase repacement drivers if needed and should I buy directly from Klpisch. Everthing is working - should I be concerned that the crossover will have problems being so old. Thrilled to have them
