  1. Thanks, yes it does. I am trying to negeotiate with the seller a little more. Hopefully I can cut a deal on some RF-83's this week.
  2. What are RF-83's really worth? RF-63's? Rc-64? Prices seem to be all over the place. Shipping seems to be the biggest prohibitive factor in obtaining the best deal. I have been exploring deals with reasonable travel distance to pick them up. I have just been offered a pair of black RF-83's for $1200.00. The only catch is they are "B-stock" with no boxes or manuals, but in excellent condition. Another drawback is they won't match my cherry RF-63's. I am just not sure this is a good deal, advice from members is greatly appreciated.
  3. Thanks, If it is noted on the factory label, I have no concerns. I have started to see several pairs of RF-83's showing up for sale outside of this forum, and I wanted to be informed as I begin my selection process.
  4. Currently I am looking for some used RF-83's. I need some advice to assist me with my search. Does anyone know if RF-83's were ever sold as "B STOCK"? If so how can one detect them from "A STOCK"? What is the difference? How much was Klipsch didiscounting "B STOCK"? Would one expect to pay less for used "B STOCK"? Any tell-tell signs if owner does not disclose used speakers were "B STOCK" when new? Any help is appreciated........ I just want make sure ai know what i am getting.
  5. OK, timeout, with all due respect, The people comment is way out of line and it offends me. This conversation is not about Chinese people, we were all created in the image of God, end of that, so chill. I think the point is being missed, This is about economics. Klipsch speakers started out being made in America, and people paid for that product because of its superior quality. Then at some point they stated being made in China for considerably less than what they cost to make here in the US and at the same time without the quality control safeguards that were in place before. Anyone have a quality control sticker with the technicians name that built and tested a Klipsch speaker made in China? I doubt it. Did Klipsch start charging less when they contracted companies for all the cheap Chinese labor? No way! The savings was not to provide the consumer with a lower pricepoint product, but to increase profits for the company. Items are produced in China to exploit the low cost of raw materials and labor, and also to circumvent environmental and quality controls in the name of increased profits. Anyone have a high-end receiver or amp made in China? I would like to know about it. Mine were made in Japan, and I am sure many would acknowledge Japans quality in building high-end electronics. If people ever took time to understand the process of contracting to have products made in China, and the huge profits that are milked out of evey item before they reach the US consumer, they would be apalled. I have friends in the import/export business that laugh about the huge markup on products from China. Understand that products are not made in America because the labor is too expensive, they are not made in America because of greed. Some people might call use of a people for cheap labor, capitalism, others might call it a form of exploitation. I would prefer to purchase used Klipsch speakers made in the US, over new Klipsch speakers made in China, now that I am aware of the difference. Although, all of the Klipsch speakers I own were made in China. Side note my old Polk speakers I retired were made in the USA. Does anyone know when Klipsch starting selling speakers made in China?
  6. Based on the brand recognition and the history of the company, I ASSUMED that I was purchasing speakers made in America. I thought that some of the lower lines might be mass produced (in the U.S.A.) and lack the quality control, fit and finish of the upper lines, but I never even considered CHINA !!!! I know I purchase products made in China everyday because it is the way of the world today. However, I usually justify it with the offset of the savings realized. I don't expect spend money on high end luxury items to have them made in China!!! How can they charge these prices for Chinese products? Are there any KLIPSCH speakers still made in America? Or do I need to resort to buying older used Klipsch speakers? I see that the Reference series speakers are tagged MADE IN CHINA. Please tell me which KLIPSCH series of speakers (new or used) to llok for to have them made in AMERICA!!!! MADE IN CHINA = MADE FOR PROFIT NOT QUALITY!!!!! ANYTHING MADE IN CHINA SHOULD BE SOLD FOR 40-50% OF U.S.A. LIST PRICE!!!!!!
  7. I noticed that the shade of the copper color of the drives in my RC-62 vs. my RW-12d's seem different. Is this just an illusion or is there a difference in the shade of the copper color of the drivers in the Reference Series speakers? If so, which ones are different? Is there also a sound difference that corresponds to the different shades of the drivers?
  8. I appreciate the responses. I think I will try to give a set of RS's a test drive. Part of the delima though is power handling. Right now I a using a SONY TA-N9000ES in BTL mode (200wpc x2) for my rears. I am concerned about pushing that much power to any set of RS's.
  9. I have been a HT fan since I can remember. Years ago as a kid I remember wiring my mono tv speaker to a passive line level converter then running the rca's to the tape in jacks on my 2 channel receiver (before surround sound). Times have changed. Now I know in HT a lot of people use smaller speakers for their rear surrounds, just as use to be the case with the center channel. Now the centers are much larger (i.e. RC-62/64 & RC-7). My question is does it make a difference in the rear? I have always purchased 4 matching speakers for fronts and rears in my HT systems, my theory is that it provides a "balance" the rears being an identical match in potential sound (timbre, sensitivity, cone area, amplification (equal power to each speaker), ect.). Is this ideal? or are there advantages to running smaller rears (other than saving space)? I understand there is less sound / information sent to the rears, but I am thinking about imaging. If people had the cash and the room would they match front, center, rear, (and sides for 7.1)? Any input is greatly appreciated, as I am considering future upgrades and it could greatly impact my choice of speakers. I could sink more $$$ into the fronts / less into the rears or keep my balance theory.
  10. Thanks for the replys. I think that I can conclude to keep the money in the bank for now. Based on the responses and my previous purchase activities, I need to wait until I can afford a complete overhaul. Although I must admit, if I find a deal I can't pass up, I may find myself back in a quagmire of balancing sound quality vs. affordability.
  11. I would like opinions from the forum concerning upgrading my equipment. Starting with high quality consumer grade equipment, and moving up to audiophile quality equipment, which would you upgrade first, speakers or amplification? In other words, on a temporary basis, which would you prefer, audiophile quality speakers with high quality consumer grade amplification? Or, high quality consumer grade speakers with audiophile quality amplification?
  12. LOL!!! ........... I am glad this is not a 12 step program!!!! I am losing my will to resist the temptation. However, any ideas about how RF-83's would perform in a room that is only 14 x 18? I have heard that they need a large room to sound their best.(go ahead kill my pathetic reasoning [] )
  13. This all started when my JBL sub died the week of Thanksgiving, then one thing led to another. I went to BB and purchased a cheap Polk replacement sub, at which time I was introduced to the new Klipsch ICON line. I was impressed, I had not heard any Klipsch since I owned a small competition car audio shop about 20 years ago. A guy who owned rival shop, and had way more money than me, let me hear his LaScala's. I was blown away, but forgot about them since they were out of my affordability zone. Now, hear I am on impulse and name association, and a good deal pulling the trigger at BB. I thought it was over when I got my 4 KF-28's, and a KC-25 (IMHO not better than the Polk CS400). Then I realized, the Polk sub was not carrying its weight, it disappeared when my receiver hit -30db. So then I pulled the trigger on 2 RW-12d's (so sweet). Now I have what I thought was an awesome sounding system. However since joining the forum, I have learned a lot about Klipsch, and I cannot believe I am saying this, but I want more, and I want it bad. I am ready to upgrade to some second hand reference series, namely 2 RF-83's, a RC-64 and 2 RF-63's. I don't know what is wrong with me, I have new Klipsch speakers that sound good (but I have aluminum horns, not titanium, and IMG woofers not Cerametallic). I even replaced my old couch with 2 powered leather home theater recliners to enjoy the sound more. I cannot believe I am considering doing this now. I need help. Anyone else been here? Can someone give me a good reason to wait????
  14. Thanks for the reponses. UPS just delivered my 2 [] RW-12D's. I was only able to hook up one because the other arrived damaged. It is in the process of being replaced. However the one I did hook up moved my soul. I can't believe the difference of the RW-12D compared to the Polk PSW110 which is only a few weeks old. I feel like I might be catching a fever. A fever that won't be hazardous to my health, just my wallet.
  15. I am new to KLIPSH & the forums, but upon doing search no one has much to say about the mass market ICON line sold at a national retailer. By the specs, it seems to be similar to the SYNERGY line, but I don't hear much about these either. I am new to KLIPSCH, I just converted from POLK. I got a great Black Friday deal, so I pulled the trigger. I have a relative who has a pair of RF-35's and to my laymans ear, my new KF-28's sound just as good if not better (but I am trying not to be bias). Why do these lines seem to not get more respect in these forums?
