  1. I will be upgrading the tweeter and crossover with Bob Crites equipment. It really helped the Chorus. But I didn't do the mids. As I recall, Mr. Crites didn't think that was as important. I am curious, what's your opinion? And if I remember correctly, to get titanium mids you have to order them from Klipsch. Is that right? And are they as easy as putting in the tweeters? I am technologically challenged. BTW, in the past year, I have had Chorus, RF-83's, KLF-30's, Snell C/V's, and Acoustic Zen Adagios in and out of my basement. I don't know if it is my ears or my particular listening area, but the Fortes work in a way that none of the above did. Over the past three days I have spent all my extra time switching out the 83's the Adagios and the Fortes. I kept telling my wife that it doesn't make sense that I prefer the Fortes, but I do. Go figure, heh?
  2. For what it is worth, the tubes will almost certainly be connected to the Chorus. And that's going to be upstairs so small wattage is no problems. I am selling some Onkyo gear that I recently purchased to partially fund my tube project. Thanks for the help.
  3. This is funny, because I just listed this in the garage section.
  4. I was wondering if there is anyone near West Michigan who has tubes connected to Fortes or Chorus? And more importantly, would they be interested in inviting an audiophyte over for a listening session? That's a rather forward request, heh?

    SW-115

Pretty good info... thanks I am a rookie at this compared to many others here. Lately I have been learning about room modes, and highly recommend it to anybody serious about getting it right in thier sound system. In short, you should work out the room before running Audyssey or whatever calibration you choose. To do that, you need an RTA which measures down to 1/10th octave, and take lots of measurements all over the room. Most of your adjustments will be moving speakers and seating positions at first. When that is done, you move on to room treatments to correct further. The last step, if needed, is Audyssey or YPAO, or whatever. That sounds really great! Where's the "For Dummies" version?

    SW-115

I am excited to hear the reviews. I am planning to add a pair of subs to my two channel. I have begun saving my pennies, reading various reviews, and looking for a good fit. I had an SW-310 and it just didn't impress and I sold it. Yesterday, I noticed on my local CL a REL Strata iii for sale for $450.00. I called the guy and threw out $300, and he said " ok.". It is in perfect shape. I bought it simply to see how a different sub would sound in my system. Wow! Anyway... I hooked it up last night and after about two hours of tweaking it was AMAZING. It confirmed for me that I will be using subs in my two channel. So I am really interested to her how a pair of SW-115's perform in two channel. And they will have to outpace REL.

    SW-115

Yea, I am afraid if I hopped it would be bad for the hip. And I believe an EDM is what I had for my 50th birthday.
  8. Yes, I have the Chorus. Once I get around to putting the same mods in the Fortes, I look forward to comparing and choosing which pair goes upstairs. My wife loves he Fortes. Not for sonic reasons, but the smaller size. No double entendre implied!
  9. Are these obscure?

That's a bummer, and on a Friday no less. Can't wait to hear your review. I am looking for a sub (or pair) and the SW-310 didn't cut it. I will be curious to hear how it does musically. BTW, are you getting one or two?
  11. After some good advice, I am going to put tubes on hold till I get myself some learnin.
  12. I have an opportunity to pick up a pair of these. I will be using one or both exclusively for two channel. Anyone familiar with them? How are they with music? And what is a good price? Can't find very much info online. Thanks, Chip.
  13. That's the one upside re shipping. I found I one on the local CL, which is what is making me think about it now. The guy is asking $450. A fellow forum member suggested a Decware SE84C. How do they compare? Remember that I am technology challenged and definitely want to stay under $700. (And the loser to $500 I can stay the happier I will be.)
  14. I would like to give tubes a shot. I have two limitations. One, I am technologically challenged. Two, I have bought a good bit of gear recently and can't afford much. What do you guys think of the Yaqin MC 10L? What other integrated tube amp would you suggest in the $500-700 range? I have reasonably good ss (Cambridge 840w & 840e). Would I notice a significant difference with tubes? Or... should I wait a few months till I can spen a bit more? Thank, Chip.
  15. Hey, I have seen folks put grills over the passive on their Fortes. Where can I get those? Thanks, Chip
  16. Oops. I should read more carefully. They are Forte I.
  17. FWIW, I just returned home with pair that are in very good shape. Great grills, a couple dings, but quite beautiful. And they sound great. I will post pictures later. Anyway, paid $400.
  18. Hey, can you refinish Fortes? I am not much of a woodworker, but I would like to give it a shot. Is their an idiot's guid you might direct me to?
  19. Thanks, It seemed to me that the right toe in was more important for the 83's than the Chorus. Also, I had to pull the 83's almost 3' from the back wall to prevent boominess. And I have bass traps. The 1' mark gives me a good starting point. I haven't had a speaker with that big passive woofer in the back. And the Forte's are rated at 32Hz where the Chorus are 45Hz. This will be fun
  20. Howdy, I mentioned in a previous post that I am picking up a pair of Fortes this week. Any hints on placement? It took a lot of messing around to get the RF-83's (which I am now getting rid of) and Chorus to sound good. I can easily keep them 3'-4' from the outside walls and if necessary 2'-2.5' from the back wall. I know I will have to toy with them, but any initial guidance will be appreciated. Chip
  21. Hello, this is likely a bonehead question, but here it is: I am awaiting delivery on an Onkyo m-504 and p-304. Is there anyway to (somewhat inexpensively) connect a remote volume control to the 304?
  22. Hey, there's a guy who wants t trade me a pair of these for something I m selling. I have been looking for a musical sub. At these any good? How would one of them work in a two channel setup? What are they worth, because I would be selling the second one? Thanks.
  23. It will be a couple weeks before I can get to it, but I won't be doing the midranges for a while after that. I have a pair of Chorus with the BEC tweeters and crossovers. I want to do the exact same mods on the Forte and do a side-by-side comparison with all the same gear. It is something I have wanted to do for a long time.
  24. This Monday I will be receiving an Onkyo M-504 and P-304. On Wednesday, I am driving to Indiana to pick up a pair of Fortes. There is something about knowing that I will use my iPad to control a Mac mini-that's plugged into a dac-that will be fed to the Onkyos-to play sweet music by the Fortes-that has me juiced. Something old and something new! Anyway, in a week or so I will be ordering BEC tweeters and crossovers. Here's my question: should I upgrade the midrange? How many of you have done that and how much difference did it make? Also, are the midranges more difficult to do than the tweeters? I hate to admit this (for fear of sounding like a girly man), but if I have to solder it is above my technical pay grade. And is there a difference between the midrange you order from Klipsch over the one that is offered from Crites? As always, I really appreciate the advice. Thanks, Chip
