  1. I watched the expendables 2 on sat night in the theater. Seen it once picked it up for a few bucks and enjoyed it for what it was. I hope they do more with the expendables 3 and mel Gibson always entertains. Video was a 3 of 5 on exp2 with a lot of out of focus shots and not the greatest black saw a lot of black crushing, but the audio was decent. Lots of directionality and dynamics but not up there with the top tier catalog titles. I plan to watch all 3 Riddick films next in the theater I picked up the Blu-ray box set off eBay brand new for cheap.
  2. I thought Thor 2 was rather boring I need to watch it again and I’ll pick up a copy to check out at some point I thought there was less heart in it and the villain was not involving whatsoever. The visuals and action were decent and I look forward to the director Alan Taylor doing something with the reboot of Terminator in Terminator Genesis. The exorcism of Emily rose was a great treat of a film and very atmospheric I like what the director also did with Sinister I think Scott Deckerson is the director he does some great things with the camera and creates a great mood. The second hunger games was very enjoyable and I liked them both. I downloaded 47 ronin and will check it out one evening in the bedroom
  3. First thing id do is put those 7s on the ground and run a calibration.
  4. Mike me and you have been on a crazy upgrade path as of late adding screens speakers and toys why don’t you just do what I’m going to do. My wife tells me all the time to just get a nice mattress and put it in the rear of the IMAX theater and live there. Going to mattress firm this weekend… I live about 2 miles from the IMAX in Charleston… and done!
  5. is it worth the watch if you have never seen pitch black or the other riddick? harder to get into the character with out the original two but I like all 3 films.
  6. I liked the first two not the 3rd
  7. No dunce hat needed lol I know you have been building a theater and wasn’t sure if you went with a full (7) rf-7 setup. I was curious more than anything as I know some people use a 3rd rf-7 as a center speaker. I also missed the joke but your suggestions to helping others audio issues are most welcomed as with some many components in all of our setups it can vary as to what is the problem. As to the OP my father uses my old RC-62 center and it is in a similar placement being enclosed in cabinet or entertainment center. We had to adjust the height on the front of it to fire more at the ear and that helped a little. He then used an older Denon receiver with no room equalization. Once we put a newer receiver in and ran some room correction software it cleared the speaker right up. can’t see you listening position or the rest of the room but it most likely is the Yamaha and some equalization may be needed with those RF-7 standing freely and openly on the sides the open it may be difficult for it in its location paired with that Yammy. I vote +1 for it being the Yamaha needed tested. The original RC-64 is clearly an exceptionally designed center and should be able to produce clear crisp highs having owned one for years I can vouch for it. just curious why you have the RF-7s so high with the hors that high it may be shooting some of the most important information from your movies and music above the listeners ears though they look sharp up there
  8. Couldn’t have said it better. my THX speakers disappear into a black ceiling and when the lights are out other than a few amp lights I have it pitch black and it is an incredible experience. I’m pretty sure Youth’s setup with speakers concealed and lights out is a similar experience I have always loved the look of his room but he will have to decide what he wants. Like he said he has a ton of great options and has 2 Lascalas, a RF83 theater, RF-7ii 2 channel setup, and his son has RF-7 + RC64 setup he is a well-rounded Klipschonite at this point and can go into any darn room of his house and be in good hands
  9. I also love te clean cut look for a theater. If you keep the lascalas I'd figure a way to do an AT screen even though the speakers are beautiful I like the look of your theater with the wall in place. It looks very professionally and gives a finished look to you private theater.
  10. Hey guys what do you think of my 7.1 setup. It consists of 7 rf-7 towers and an rf-7 modified with 2 10" subwoofers instead of the normal woofers. Its rf-7 tastic. Dean worked day and night for 2 months to get all the upgrades around... HA! That's fantastic Cosmic but it would likely be best to start a separate thread so we don't end up hijacking the OP's thread. can you post pictures of this setup in another Thread I'd like to take a look at that.
  11. These lascalas and their beautiful sound have caused you quite the dilemma albeit good one
  12. I moved the LaScalas behind the doors on the side wall to see how they sound. Definitely very little toe in (if any). I remember measuring a LONG time ago and knew the LaScala was the absolute largest heritage speaker that would fit behind the false wall. They squeezed in there with 1/2" to spare on all sides. it may be better to end up leaving the 83s in their spot behind the false all and do something else with the lascalas? After closing the doors, I tested out a scene from Transformers: Dark Side of the Moon and then a few songs in 2ch and honestly, it didn't sound good at all. It sounded much better when I moved from my center chair to the side wall in front of a speaker. I'm guessing the sound is hitting the door on the way out and causing some bad reflections and the inside of each door is preventing the horn to have a wide dispersion as it could be if it was out in the open. As you can see below, the "opening" in the doors are not the entire width of the doors. The guy that built the false wall made that section wide to support the weight of the door. Good for structure, but bad for acoustics. It limits how much I can toe in any speakers and anytime I put speakers behind the doors, it alters the sound. Honestly, I've always felt that the sound has suffered when I place my speakers behind the doors of the false wall. That's why I have been keeping the RF-83's out in front of the doors for some time now. Plus it is nice to be able to look at their beautiful cherry finish.
  13. I agree youth. If they aren't discrete Chanel's I'm not interested in not into spreading out the channels with pro logic etc. nothing against those that like it. I'm not planning to move beyond 7 speakers unless Dolby Atmos integrates into pre amps with ceiling speakers. That may be neat. I didn't care for height speakers or wides when I tried them.
  14. We should create a new thread that tells our story and how all of us have literally made the theaters we have today. I remember years ago having my 60" elite with quintets and thinking I was on tip of the world. This forum is amazing.
  15. You would be surprised how much they make a difference lol. That’s why just toeing in speaker such as towers makes a nicer image for the MLP. If possible id try going for a vertical on the center and both LR for wider dispersion especially if they are all going to be at ear level the horizontal will probably be more important than vertical dispersion unless there are seat higher up behind the MLP. Just my 2 cents but I could be wrong as every room is different. Why o why can’t all rooms be the same??
  16. pop a 32" Sammy in there these big screens are ridiculousness lol in a completely light controlled theater like yours youth I doubt you would even notice if you loose any at all
  17. All this said and Done a 130"+ with 3 lascalas sounds incredible. "Think happy thoughts Peter"- Peter Pan
  18. Stewart's greyhawk is a good perforated screen but probably pricey. Not sure the gains on any
  19. Yeah u know what you men I went to a brighter gain since I went larger I think the elite was a 1.1 and the Stewart studiotek Is a 1.3. I can tell the picture is definitively better and brighter on the new screen. What is the gain on the Seymour at?
  20. I sit 8 ft from my screen very immersive and no pixelation from the jvc. I'm sure your would look stunning as well
  21. I also enjoyed several scenes from the dark knight such as the bank robbery and the entire film pretty much sounds fantastic. I don’t however enjoy the AR flipping out the entire time with a CIH setup
  22. I think he would have to re construct the wall completely to fit them I side since they are really deep either way planing will be key and it would be fun. Good thing is he can do comparisons a/b to see what he really likes. He's in a good spot.
  23. Yeah you shouldn’t have much problem with 3 RC-62s across the front should at least bring a nice uniform sound being they are all the same speaker. Some even put 3 towers as their main LCR. I know a member or two have 3 RF-7iis as their front line up with good results.
