  1. Then there's Little Roger and the Goosebumps.  They did a version of Gilligan's Island to the tune of Stairway to Heaven.  Led Zep jumped all over them to block the sale of the 45, which is why it's not widely known.  They claimed that this song devalued their most important song and money earner, and I think they won the case.

However, some radio stations did play it, so it's not totally obscure.  It's very hard to find a copy, though, since it was a limited run.

    See what you think:

This clip is the same, but without the scratches and the amusing video:

In related news, the SS Minnow is moored in Nanaimo, on central Vancouver Island.  I saw it there about ten years ago.  It has been fully restored and you can take a 3-hour tour on it.  Seriously.

That's funny! I'll say it makes one appreciate Plants vocals when you hear this guy try to crank out the high parts.

  2. Weather got serious last night. Literally got hammered. I've never seen it hail like that in San Antonio. My wife's SUV look like someone took a ball peen hammer to it.

Wow that's just crazy!  I hope you can get effective repairs soon!  I hope the rest of your week is far less eventful!

Happy Hump day to the rest of you!

  3. I can never get the search engine here to find anything, but somewhere there is a thread on this, or at least a thread on the top ten bands who ripped off other bands' songs.

I figured as much as this is not a new story (other than it appears to be heading to a jury trial now), I'm sure a study could be made on this throughout the last 60 years.

I don't have a strong opinion either way, it just caught my eye that such a legendary band is going to be brought to a trial over this after this many years.

I don't think it will matter to fans one way or another. I think duder hit the nail on the head that they did a better job with it and that's what will matter to most.

Most, but not if you're the child of Randy California and you saw an interview where your father said they never bothered to even thank him or credit him for the intro.

Plant and Page claim they never played with Spirit, Spirit members testified, "ih yes you did."

Depending on who is more credible on that I think is going to determine how people react to the outcome.

Well said and I agree! I'm thinking in terms of the masses for the statement. The law, in theory will only consider the law (*cough MM exemption!*) not public opinion. If it were my dads song I'd want a cut.

I understand the differences of opinion on whether or not it's copied, like I said I don't personally feel that strongly one way or another on this case.

  5. I've read this story on a few sites today.  I know it's not a new discussion, but it appears to be going to trial now.

I'm guessing a settlement will come of it, but it's at least an interesting topic.  I think there are similarities, but I'm not an attorney and I don't know how "close" a song has to be legally - I guess that's where the jury comes in.

  6. Moved here with my parents at age 14. Came back after college, it's become home (25 years later...) I am a financial advisor, for fun I chase my 3 yo and 1 yo boys around everywhere. Thankfully they LOVE music and I am able to make use of the Klipsch hobby er.. habit with them.

When we travel it's about a 3 1/2 hr flight to Seattle, then the trip starts. It IS a long way from just about every where! :)

So, Hope, AR is just a jump, a hop and a skip for you! :)

hop, skip, jump, a quick flight and a reasonable paddle...

Just look out of curiosity and I can get from Anchorage to Texarkana, AR in just over in a reasonable 15 hours and 14m (5 hrs of layovers) with two stops.  Not bad!

    So what is your excuse????

I DROVE 16 hours one way last year!!!

    Busted!

  8. Braves lose a relative heartbreaker blowing a 9th inning lead.  It's gonna be a long year anyway, hate to start out that way.  Still glad baseball is back!

It's an even year Jerol - should be the Giants year!

  10. Happy Monday!  Enjoying cup #2 :emotion-44:  this morning and it's opening day!  I may or may not have the Braves game streaming in during the afternoon at work...

Hope you are all well!  I'm pretty jealous of all the Hope talk, one day.  I think I would learn more about sound and personalities in one weekend than I could in a lifetime elsewhere.

LOVE the pic of the old radio a few pages back!  I also love their version of eye candy standing next to it.  My great grandmother would probably raise an eyebrow if she saw my grandfather looking at that.

    Enjoy the week!

  11. Cold pizza ?

Not a big fan but i guess if i was hungry i would eat it. :D

Anybody have a Giordano's pizza nearby or is that just a local franchise ?

    Love that stuffed pie.

Ohhh man Giordano's is a Chicago area only thing.  That bordered on a religious experience.  It's only epic fresh, but my oh my...  We've ordered some frozen for new years up here in Alaska, but it's just not the same.
