That's good.  We had an elementary school teacher who got all riled up if you disputed her word.  I'd hate to see that happen to you.

The thread is drifting back toward coffee... hmmm...

Had a middle school teacher convinced a km was longer than a mile, when shown in a textbook, she claimed it was out of date.  She needed more coffee, clearly.

  2. This thread drift has been fun to read!  Takeaway: for best two channel performance - toe the speakers in a little.

On another less punny note, I saw this and thought at Mark (the miner) bc he's loaded with these and he's probably already posted it somewhere along the line of this nearly 1500 page thread!

    Have a wonderful Wednesday everyone!

    Good evening friends.......

MKP, that looks like a real 'OUCH' !   Can it be saved?

Ok,  as you probably have seen in your news/weather for the East Coast, we had high winds and warnings...  This morning as I got ready for work, the first gusts roared through..  Did not think too much about it...  Until I was in the driveway getting ready to leave the house for work....   I noted some debris on my Escape's hood...  Closer look showed I had TWO dents from a smallish dead branch from the ASH tree which is out in the back yard!:o

After some 'oh chits', and getting upset because in the 4.5 years since new, there are only a couple of small blemishes on the whole SUV and was in near perfect shape...    THEN, I noted the darn windshield was smashed under the passenger wiper blade and the multi cracks ran all the way to the headliner area!

Well, 'Dent Doctors' can remove the dents, and the windshield is covered for free...   I am sorry that my 'Ford Proudly Built in Kanas' sticker may be lost....and the windshield is a special 'noise cancelling' type and I would hope they can replace it with the same...

Here are a couple of photos.....IMG_3152.jpgIMG_3148.jpgIMG_3150.jpg.........and all by this little stickIMG_3145.jpg  .....well, that was how my day started.....   Thanks for watching :)

Dang!  Hope the rest of your week(+end) is far less eventful!

MC2105 came out in 1967. 50 year old parts and design. Quality and performance have improved a little since then.

Very true! And add Alaska cold storage, yada, yada, yada...

Oh, how I feel you! Shipped without proper crating, scratchy this, popping that from my adventures with 2105, 2250, C28 and so on. In your situation and explained kindly to the owner buy at a BIG discount, buy factory shipping containers ($50-75 if I recall), find a reputable refresh person (be prepared for a long queue), order a new glass from Mc, wait and ye shall be rewarded. If it was cheap enough I would do it

    or

If you want that McIntosh sound and looks (luv it!) without the above risks talk to Audio Classics (and there are others) on the phone and get a plug and play with peace of mind.

    or

get that puppy, put a fuse and fuse cap in, proclaim "hold my beer and watch this", plug that sucker in (I use disposable speakers when I choose this one) but what the hey, might just be smooth as silk.

    or
    pick it up cheap

    take quality photos

trade in to the above folks towards a plug and play unit of what ever moment in history you find appealing.

I will post this pic as an example of a USED amp I just bought near 1/2 MSRP from the above recommendation with a one year warranty and those guys would chat as long as I wanted about whatever. Jim and others have had great experiences recently with more classic models that are in glorious condition.

Outstanding amp!  Good info - I've offered $100 as is - we'll see what happens.

The fuse holder was pulled, look at your photo.

The large filter caps are replacements.

The power output boards and the preamplifier board are easily accessible for repair/rework.

The chassis doesn't show signs of pitting so it will likely polish up nicely.

    Cage shows no dents.

If the glass isn't cracked, the meters works, the autoformers and power supply transformer are in good shape, everything else can be repaired or replaced.

It's the same amplifier as the MC2100.  The 2100 has no meters, no glass front, no meter PC board, same preamplifier, amplifier sections.

Just about every part needed can be found in Mouser.

McIntosh will provide NEW power output boards for $300 pair.

I've gone as far as designing and installing a better preamplifier board in my 2100, 2105 and 2505 (shown below).

Did I say "extremely inexperienced"?  I meant knuckle dragger.

Thank you for your insight!  I know many of you have forgotten more than I will ever know about the hardware, I am grateful for the feedback.

I like the fact that it's an obvious starting point for a possible solution any way.  :-)

  7. A quick bump - an update - and an extremely inexperienced "buyer" question.

The amp is still in storage, it will not power up.  This has not been a priority for them. (I trust the sellers rep we go way back)

They think it could be a fuse, but (in my mind) with possible repair needed - any idea what a reasonable offer would be? What kind of parts/labor are common here - are they fairly easy to work on or is it tech only?  Best leave it be?

    Any input is appreciated.

lady at work just commented that I was "all smiles."  Probably because i just came out of my boss' office after i told him that i moved my retirement date up...i'm leaving at the end of this month.  Found out that if i'm already retired on April 1st, i get a 2% cost of living raise.  People that retire April 1st or later, must wait until next April for a raise (if they have one next year...generally, it's less than 2%).

    So, i'm in the homestretch.

    That's very exciting!  Congrats!

I have had this idea for quite sometime that we need to start little one's out on Basic Blocks again, worked well for us.

Caution: Maybe a "Slight" leaning toward Audio in Toy Blocks :ph34r2:

HAHA!!! GREAT idea for kids!  I hear their performance goes up by 15% if they play with these blocks.

Yes Dave...congrats on the soon to be third little one. Are you wanting a girl this time? She'll have two brothers to help take care of her.

I like spring also. When the days start to last longer, I'm all for that.

Thank you and yes - I think if it's a girl we will be done!  I'm an old man for babies (42 next month - my wife is 32 so she can deal...) and I'd like to be done after this one.

Indeed!  And if it's twins - I'm blaming you!  I expect a pound of coffee for each one in the mail if that happens!

Hi there. I live in the Netherlands. Been using Klipsch for a long time now. My first pair of proper speakers were Klipsch RF25 which I still use today. Love seeing setups of others so wanted to show mine.

    I have a 9.2 / 5.2.4 Klipsch setup that features:

    Klipsch RF25 fronts
    Klipsch RC35 center
    Klipsch RB61 rears
    Klipsch RB51 front height
    Klipsch RB51 rear height
    Klipsch R115 dual subwoofer setup

Receiver is a Marantz SR7011, BD5007 for Blu Rays.

This is in a dedicated home theater room two seating rows. The back row is elevated. No proper photos of the back. Still have to carpet the elevation.

That's a wonderful set up!  Thanks for sharing!

  12. Happy Monday everyone!  Still -5 in the mornings - but gaining almost 5 1/2 min/day in daylight and that's invigorating!

I am a Falcons fan - hasn't been much to celebrate over the years, but having the heart ripped out yesterday was an unpleasant shift.  It's just sports, but I'm one of those who admittedly cares too much.

On the positive, my wife is expecting #3 (& likely our last?!) so we are letting that sink in, our boys (age 4 &2) are remarkably excited and that makes it more fun!

Another positive, the scale (my weight) is trending down, the BP is heading back to the "regular" normal from "high" normal, so I'm indulging in the coffee - a single cup and it is good.

I've said enough!  I hope you all have a great week!

    Drive fast, take chances.

You guys are a riot. Glad I'm not in the cross fire.

If you need an evac - I can lob a smoke grenade and provide concealment.  But keep your head down at any rate!

Btw - cup one on board and for a while - the only for the day.  BP got to upper normal - need to tone that back.  Sheesh - I'm too young for that gar-Bahge!

If I have to give up taco Tuesday - I quit!

    PS - Go Falcons!

But he does look good for his age, to me he does not look 68, could be the lack of real martinis keeping him young ? But I really think it's the ladies and trying to keep up with them, either way he's doing good, don't know if I will hold out another 9 years the way I take care of myself ?

Way to go "TarChuck"!  Cheers to longevity, long threads, long cables and uhm... "long" cups of coffee. :emotion-44::emotion-46:
