oldred, I only use openelec and it plays 1080p bluray rips flawlessly. I rip my bluray discs to a usb 3TB hard drive so I can watch any movie any time without having to switch disc. The only thing it can't do is bitstream DTS-HD Master audio, it will fallback to DTS core, it has enough power to software decode Dolby TrueHD however. A lot of power for dirt cheap I think.

I had an i3 NUC too, but I recently bought a Raspberry PI 2. With 4x900Mhz cores and 1gb ram, It is extremely fast and generates no heat at all. My NUC runs a bit warm. I put openelec on the Pi and can play everything the NUC could. If I had not bought a nuc, I would prefer the PI. It keeps hd signal for hdtv. It can output 1080p over hdmi. I have this unit hooked up to my epson 2030 projector and the picture is amazing. Best 50 i've spent yet.

Audyssey XT32 here, I love it for both music and movie. I didn't like it at first, but after recalibrating according to the guide over at avs forum, everthing sounds great. I have dynamic eq on with reference offset at 15db for music. XT32 is very high resolution so you have to measure carefully. Anyway, that's just my room and my ears.

Those are beautiful speakers. Love the matching wood floor. Have you tried them in the corners toeing in? They may sound better further apart, just a thought.

your sub gain is too hot, turn it down and rerun calibration. Make sure the sub level is around +/- 3db not -12.
You should turn on Dynamic Eq but leave dynamic volume off.

Your boy friend is a lucky man. I would recommend Denon 4520, it is denon flagship and is well within your 2000 budget.

congrats, the 82s are really nice. For 1000 budget, it would be hard to beat the Denon X4000, Future Shop had a sale couple days ago for $999, regular msrp is around $1400. Watch FS for them to go on sale again.

I have my RF7s upgraded by Dean. I don't quite remember how it sounded before the mod because it sounded great already to begin with. However, I love how they sound now.
It would be nice to be able to hear the side-by-side comparison of the modded RF7s against unmodded RF7iis, and then modded RF7s against modded RF7iis.

I use a WDTV Live box ($70) and 2 external usb hard drives 3TB attached to it. Works wonderfully.

Like Youthman, I couldn't imagine having 2 subs until I got the second one. XT32 is night and day difference when compare with XT. I have Denon 4311 and it can calibrate 2 subs. I would take a receiver with XT32 over XT any day of the week. Got the 4311 for under 1300 from electronic expos last xmas.

The 800B is indeed exactly the same as the original RF82. I recently upgraded to a pair of RF7, so I have a 1 year old pair of RF82 from Future Shop if you're interested.

According to the Klipsch specs the RF7 tweeter uses k-67-dv driver, however, I checked my RF7s today and they are k-67-kv, what is the difference between the two? Thanks.

I got a pair of RF82 bought from FutureShop last year for sale in the garrage sale section, they are practically brand new. Asking $650.

^^ thank you for your confirmation, I went ahead and picked them up. The man was nice enough to let them go for $300 because there was a small dent on one of the woofers, but they still sound terific, I think. I went home and hook them up to try them in stereo mode and they surely sound better than my rf82. The highs are just awesome, crisp and clear, vocal is natural. My wife even said "I think they sound better than your big speakers" lol.
Now I am in serious trouble, having seen my rf82 put to shame makes me wonder if I should upgrade to the rf7ii.

Has anyone tried rs7 surround speakers with rf82 front? What is your impression? Was it noticable mismatch or is it something that one can live with?
