  1. I agree with ranman25 I did the same and no more HUM
  2. Where are the updates? I have been following this thread with great interest. Please continue!
  3. I hear what you are saying HDBRbuilder but my thoughts have always been the fact that two drivers at or near crossover are producing the same note but with a time delay just as TBrennan described.
  4. I really bought the Crown IQ processor for the Crossover feature so I could Tri-Amp my Klipschorns. The parametric EQ and time delay was part of this so I figured why not use it. The system sounds great, but I am not sure if any of that is due to time aligning or not. It sure did not seem to degrade the sound in any way.
  5. You may be right..LOL.. I am an engineer and love to tinker! I at least think it sounds good, but who knows, at least I am having fun. I have an RTA on order so I can do some serious testing.
  6. Yea, William that was me, I set the delays and slope based on input from that thread and everything sounds great. I think alot has to do with driving the woofers with 500 watts of Crown power and 3' of 10 ga cable with no passive xover in the path, the bass is very tight and controlled.
  7. I have done this using a Crown IQ USM-810, which is a active crossover, with time delay and parametric equalizer all programed via your computer. This is done by Tri- amping the K-Horns. Another advantage is direct coupling the woofer amp, without going through the passive crossover thereby taking advantage to my Crown amps high damping factor. Sounds fantastic.
  8. I have the matching center speaker KSP-C6 if anyone is interested
  9. I have two LaScala bass units, which where used in a band. They are finished with a black wrinkle material. Condition is fair and I don't know if the drivers are working. I will sell if anyone is interested.
  10. Thanks so much William that is the exact info I was looking for.
  11. John thanks for the info, I have the K-55-M midrange drivers, and will try the slopes you listed.
  12. Thanks TBrennan great info. Do you know the distance diff. of woofer to midrange driver. Al, what about the crossover slope choices I listed for the Crown processor? Which should I use?
  13. Thanks Al, so which crossover shape would you use? By the way I have purchased all the components to build 4 of you Networks, 4 for LaScala (2 center & 2 surrond) you may remember us speaking via phone a couple of weeks ago, thanks so much for sharing design. BobG mentioned EQ built into crossover, is there anything other than the slope (crossover shape)? The delay feature is built into the Crown, so I figure why not try it, don't think it could hurt.
  14. Thanks BobG, By doing the processing in the digital domain I am hoping not to degrade the electronics. The Crown processer has several crossover slopes(shapes) 1st 2nd 3rd 4th-order Butterworth; 2nd 3rd 4th-order Bessel; & 4th-order Linkwitz-Riley. Maybe AL K can help me with this and the EQ. Al are you out there?
  15. I just purchased a Crown DPS processer(IQ-USM 810), which has crossover, time delay & EQ functions for each of 8 outputs. My intention is to Tri-Amp my Klipschorns using Crown DC-300 in mono for each woofer, DC-150 in mono for each Midrange & DC-75 in mono for each Tweeter. I understand the crossover for these is 400Hz & 5000Hz ?? Does anyone know the difference in distance from the woofer to the midrange driver? so I can use the delay function to time align. I know some will question why I am going to this expense, but I currently have all this equipment so just want to hear the results.
  16. Thanks, Soundog. I will be driving each with its own Crown amp in mono. Just concerned about two speakers that close with the same output clashing or something. Not shure just have not seen it done before, although it seems it should work fine.
  17. quote: Originally posted by soundog: LaScalas together as a center channel will have a different impedance than the Klipschorns, I use two sets of Heresy components with one crossover (two horns on top of the monitor; two horns and two woofers on the bottom) To prevent stressing my receiver I wired the woofers in series (raising their impedance) and the mid and tweeter horns in parallel (lowering their impedance. It works well. although I use the center channel and surrounds only for DVDs and Videotapes. The rear 6th channel consists of two LaSxalas in parallel, however. For some reason using just one center crossover with all the components in parallel would overload the amp. Perhaps someone could explain why this is so. I also cut the center and surround channels off at 60Hz and send the lower frequencies to the subs with the .1 LFEs but run the Klipsvhorns full tilt which produces better bass than running all full tilt. 18. I just purchased a new home, with a 21'x24' theater room. The walls where front speakers and 65" widescreen will go are 54" tall then vault to 14'. My previous set up used 1 LaScala with 40'' TV sitting on top as the center. Due to wall Ht. I can't place TV on top of speaker. New setup will be Klipschorn front, 2 Lascala(mono signal) as center, 1 on each side of TV and LaScala for rear surround. My concern is any possible negative effect of using the 2 center LaScalas in this fashion. Cost is not a factor as I curently own all these speakers.
