  3. Beautiful Work !!! Stunning Finish !!!
  4. djk, Thanks. Just what I was looking for. Big D
  5. the model # of the driver on the left in the photo. The one on the right is a K-55-V. The one on the left has a larger magnet structure but no markings. Big D
  6. Greg, Sorry, the only testing equipment I have are my two ears. I know that's not much to go on, but I tried to do my homework before I started this project. The few others that have heard them had favorable comments. Once I get this upper section worked out, I think I'll have a good sounding speaker. Big D
  7. Marvel, I still have pretty good hearing for an old fart. When I A/B the jubilee and khorns, the khorns win out on top end. So it's on now. A search for better top end drivers. DOES IT EVER STOP? Big D
  8. Hi All, I,m using 511b horns and a set of altec 807-8 drivers. Got the drivers off ebay to keep costs down. Both needed diaphrams. They sound really good at low volume and using a test CD they only go up to about 12,000hz which ain't gonna fly. After market diaphrams just didn't do them justice. So I'm looking at the JBL 2426 1". Don't really want to spend any more $$$ than I have to. Already spent enough($1200). As far as the bass bins go, I couldn't be happier. It's just the top end needs a little work. Big D
  9. Hi All, The drivers I'm using are the pioneer A30GU40-51D. They are 6 ohm. Called Pioneer to get more info. They said they'd get back to me. Nothing yet. Maybe an email would be more effective. Got the drivers wired in parallel right now. They remind me of LaScalas with extended low end. The upper-mids are punchy and strong. the lower freq. are tight. Need to get them positioned in my listening area for a further listen. Thanks again for all the kind words folks. AL- As soon as I get info from pioneer I'll shoot it to you and thanks again for your help. Big D
  10. Hi All, Got the big honkers home today. These suckers must weigh 175lbs. without the drivers. Speaking of drivers, I'm using Al's ES700 network. There is a question as to whether the woofers should be wired in series or parallel. Any thoughts? Below are the last few pics. Big D
  11. THOSE ARE PHAT! Love the depth that maple creates. Excellent Work Big D
  12. As far as I'm concerned, if it's just as good as the khorn bass bin I'll be happy. If it's better, then thats just icing on the cake.
  13. Thanks again for the vote of confidence. It's killing me not to be able to work on them today. Got back to back dental appts. this week. Marvel, There is no type of finish on them as of yet. Don't want to waste time putting a finish on them until I hear them first. Sunnysal, I'm using the Pioneer woofers from the parts express catalog(a30gu40-51d). The uppers will be 511b horns w/ Altec 807-8a drivers and ALK ES700 networks. Hope this combination sounds alright. I've spent enough money. greg, Yes, I am building a pair. didn't think it was necessary to put both in the pictures. I would have had to stand across the room to get them both in a shot. Best regards, Big D
  14. BigBore, I used 3/4 inch 9 ply birch plywood. I used my own layout but there is a good set of plans floating around on the forum. Our plans only differ by an 1/8 inch or so here and there. These are just as complicated as the k-horns I built a few years ago, minus the compound cuts. So many little details. Still having a blast putting them together. Big D P.S Thanks for all the kind words folks.
  15. Nice work. The rounded edges look great. The finish is excellent. Did you prime them before you painted? I've got 4 that need a makeover. They're next after my current project. Big D
  16. Can't get the last few pics to load. I'll try later. Marvel, Working as fast as I can. Can't get back to them until weds, but hope to have them done by the weekend. then it's home for a test run. If they pass the test, then they're off to the finishing room. Big D
