  1. What do you plan on using your HT for? More music or movies? I don't have any experience with that sub itself, but they stopped making it in 1996. I would think that a whole lot better technology would have come out in the last 15 years. Someone else on this forum may have experience with that sub itself and may tell you that's a great deal and to go for it, but I'm not that guy =^P I'm guessing you can get a lot better for your money buying something more current.

  2. I have the same front 3 speakers as you and on my way to replacing my surrounds to exactly what you have. Check out outlaws website. They have a discount on the 7700 when you buy a marantz. I have the av7005 with the 7700 and couldn't be happier. There is more power than you'll ever need . The amplifier barely gets warm during loud listening sessions and with t.v. or movies not even warm. The av7005 has xlr outputs and no amps. This keeps the heat out of the processor which is what eventually kills all electronics. The processor stays cool the amp stays cool and you dont have to worry about overworking or damaging anything. This is my opinion of course but its what I came up with when I was in the same spot your in now. Hope this gives you some insight. I know exactly where your at. Good luck.

How much of a discount for the 7700? I've also heard from other members on the board that outlaws tend to play brighter, is this your experience?

Right now I am watching a BD at -20 on my SC 35 avr and my mains and front height speakers are using less than 1 watt 98% of the time. Transient peaks in the movie will increase the wattage up to around 2 watts. This is around an average listening level of 75 db, p[us or minus a few db not counting peaks. Only if the avr is at -10, which I don't use, will the wattage go up to near 20. That is very loud and not my usual listening level. For music the avr is usually between -30 to -50, so I am in no danger of blowing anything.

How have you measured this? If you are only using 1-2 watts, what's the point of having 200? For that matter, what's the point of separates in the first place? The AVR should be plenty of power, correct? I guess I'm lost now...After that last post, I just really don't see the points of spending all that extra money for power that will never be touched. I would rather spend money on a really nice AVR that is going to give me a nice sound and lots of options for tweaking if I so desire. What am I missing here? What is the benefit of separates?

  3. I really like mine. It blends in well with my system and sounds clean. Unfortunately I don't really have much of a comparison to give you as I was using a harmon kardon 10" sub before, so I can't really say how it performs compared to a lot of the other favorites out there.

  4. I think with some shopping around you could get a brand new SW-112 for that price or just a little more (I was quoted $432 locally), or even a SW-115 for $600 (which is what I got mine for). I really like my SW-115, but a lot of guys on this forum use other brands of subs such as Velodyne, HSU, SVS, Sunfire, Epik and a few others I can't think of right now...The guy I bought my system from uses 2 SW-112s and he is happy with his setup. I'm guessing he paid a lot less than any of us would tho...Just look for a 'what sub to buy' thread (like this one) in this section and you can find plenty of advice.

  5. The speaker RMS is not that important since nobody with Klipsch in their home will run the speakers at 150 watts or what ever it is for a long time. Most of the time 20-30 would be high. My surrounds are 50-200 watts peak and I have an amp on the front height with no fear of the RMS watts and can cover the peaks without a problem. I do not know if it is sound reasoning, but the amp on the front height speaker is meant to protect the least able speaker from clipping and provide the best damping that I can provide theorectically, lol. I have driven my speaker at 100 watts for a short amount of time, way, way, to loud to take for long. The surround just never get that type of wattage except in HT.

I'm trying to understand this post. When you say the RMS isn't important and most of the time 20-30 would be high, are you saying that higher volume = more wattage output? So basically if you only have your volume turned up half way and you have a 200 watt RMS amp, you are only using approximately 100 watts? This may be simplifying the equation quite a bit, but is this the basic idea? Is this why people can get away with using a higher powered amp than what the specs on their speakers say they can handle?
  6. Saw this tonight, might be another to look at if I can find one for a decent price. B&K Reference 125.7. I like the idea of having a 7 channel amp so it takes up less space. Someone in another thread did make a good point tho if you have an AVR to get a 5 channel amp and use the AVR to power the rears as pushing only 2 channels out of the AVR will actually get you what the AVR amp is rated at. I definitely have a lot of shopping around to do. So many choices and so many opinions. I'm not really in an area where I can go and listen to different amps so I'm having to go off of what I read on different forums. I still think the Marantz amps look awesome tho, I dig their design.

  7. Thank you for the info! What about the SR7005? Also the MM7055 and MM7025?

the mm7055 5 channel amp is 899.00 delivered. Checking on other prices for you. Are you out for the av7005?

I'm just kinda checking out all of my options. I'm not certain that I'll be able to go with separates any time soon, so I'm thinking of getting an AVR with pre-outs to add amps later. I appreciate all the info tho. It gives me a good idea of what kind of funds I'm going to have to come up with.
  8. I don't think I would ever turn them up enough for that if I'm running that much power to them. I'm really liking the look of the Marantz amps with 140 RMS. Anybody have any experience with these matched with Klipsch?

  9. Shopping around for amps, now I know why you guys buy used...What about the outlaw 7125? Looking at that raises a question, what's the difference between balanced and unbalanced amps? I know balanced have XLR and unbalanced use RCA...I would imagine XLR would be a higher quality connection, but other than that, what's the benefit of balanced?

  10. @tmassey, all the speakers show the same specs on this site and say 150rms/600peak. I've looked at the emotiva as it seems like a lot of people like them, but I'm just not sure I want to go with separates right off the bat. My main reason for upgrading my receiver in the first place is for 3D capability and a bit more power. At this point, I would like to go with an AVR with pre-outs so I can always buy amps in the future and work my way into the separates world. @derrickdj, wouldn't 200 RMS be too much?

  11. All I can say is never buy monster cables again. There was a $20 cable that was 25 feet long on amazon that will work just as well. There are plenty of articles out there discrediting the super expensive hdmi and other cables, like this one. If you can take that cable back and get your money back, definitely do. And it looks like I was wrong, there are actually cl2 and cl3 rated HDMI cables available for in the wall routing. Check out monoprice, they have a whole slew of HDMI cables so you should be able to find what you are looking for.

  12. I'm probably just going to have to go with an AVR for now and then save up for amps and buy those at a later time. I like the look of the Marantz SR6006 or maybe even the SR7005. Blah, too much stuff out there =^/

  13. How about this:

    Marantz - AV7005/MM7055/MM7025

It'll be a while before I buy tho, so maybe something else will come out by then. I guess I should start shopping when I'm actually ready to purchase...
