  1. Boo! Haha, gotcha! This thread is STILL?!?! alive and so are my Promedias! I moved the 5.1s (original version but I upgraded the front L/R to Quintet sats) to the studio for "critical listening" after mixdown. Gotta go, ATHF is on!
  2. Happy I'm-in-Detroit-and-my-morning-meeting-was-cancelled-so-Im-bored Day!
  3. Happy Earth Day! What better way to experience nature than to take out your PC and go hiking with Hofy's Mobile Surround Sound system. Just remember to use extra Duct Tape if you decide to free climb with it!
  4. Happy New Year! Wish Klipsch made automotive systems cause I'd sure like to rip the crappy Infinity's out of my car ( www.thekave.net/928.html ) Hofy, it's time to revamp the Duct Tape system. We need a new website and some new pics. BTW, congrats on the new HT system.
  5. I flew up to milwaukee this weekend to pick up a car I bought. I figured while i was up that way why not meet up with Hofy and Damin for lunch. So I said "Yeah, the interior is a little worn. There are a couple places in the leather seats where the stitching is coming apart" Hofy says, "Be right back" and heads off. Didn't think anything about it, thought he was going to the restroom. Hofy comes back and says "Fixed those seats for ya!" with this big grin on his hairy mug and a double size roll of duct tape in his hands! It gets ugly from there, parts of dead pig flying across the reastuarant, police, lawyers, etc... Then I looked at Hofy's car and realized, "This guy thinks Duct Tape is a color." c> ------------------ I used to hate people. Now I just make fun of them, it's more effective that way. 6. NO! It will not die! This thread will be active as long as Klipsch has this board up! Wish I could find the old "How to Overclock Your Promedias" thread. Isn't this some kind of record? Two years and this thread is still active! That's got to be a record. Somebody call Guiness (and get me one while your at it!) c>------------------ I used to hate people. 7. OK, just for clarification, there is almost no difference between driver made for car audio and drivers made for home audio. The biggest one is the Ohm rating. And I did put my Pros in my Jeep, but it was just parked in the driveway with a long extension cord. I put the front sats down where the kickpanels are and tried the rear stas both forwards in the corner and backwards firing into the rear glass. It sounded good. Wouldn't recomend it for permanent install. The bass from my Pro sub in the Jeep was comprable to my 10" Alpine Type S which gets 150 watts RMS, but the 10" goes lower (duh)c> ------------------ Who knows what evil lurks in the darkness of The Kave ? www.thekave.net Home of The Klipschmonster!

  10. Hi, no I'm not dead, just real busy. Hofy, are you saying that .ape files are as good as .wav files, just 40% smaller? I've never thought mp3 was very good format, so I have all my stuff stored as .wav files. I'd love to gain an additional 40% of storage. BTW, got my tbird to 950 stable. I know, it's old and slow now so stop laughing. c>------------------ Who knows what evil lurks in the darkness of The Kave ? www.thekave.net Home of The Klipschmonster!
  11. Many people have complained in the past about the "lack" of midrange. Having had experience with Boston Acoustics speakers before, I agree with Insane3D about the Klipsch midrange. It's there, it's just a different sound. You can say the the Promedias tend to "color" the sound, but please don't compare them to Bose. If they were anything like Bose, they would color the sound 4 times as much and cost 4 times as much. I've had my Pros for well over a year now. They do sound better over time, but I didn't notice a real difference for about 3 months. I don't think 14 days will be enough unless you burn them in with pink noise. What I did to rectify the "midrange" problem was to add an external EQ to the front channels. I used a PPI PEQ-114 4-band parametric EQ. This is far superior to any software EQ, and I got a steal on it for $40 (normally $150). I've also just recieved a pair of Quintet sats that will replace my Pros front sats. These have a 3.5" woofer and are ported out the back. I will report on how they sound soon. I made this statement over a year ago, and I still believe it to be true today..."You can't buy a better sounding 4.1 multimedia system for less". In fact, like you said, you would need to spend twice as much to sound better. At $250 (or $200 in your case), the Pros are a steal. I can't wait for Klipsch to release a true 5.1 multimedia system. I'd preorder now if they'd let me. I don't believe anyone here thinks that the Pros are the best sounding speakers on the planet. That would be stupid. They are, however, an extremely good value. That is the strong point of the Pros, IMO. c> ------------------ Who knows what evil lurks in the darkness of The Kave ? www.thekave.net Home of The Klipschmonster!

    Overclocking Tips

Try Powerstrip for overclocking your video card, and let me know if it works with the Radeon 64MB DDR card. I have the same card, but am in the process of migrating my AMD Tbird 800/Abit KT7-RAID to a new configuration. I'm also waiting on my SuperOrb to get here. You do know how to unlock your Tbird don't you? If not, just go to ard/OCP and search the forums there. Basically, if the bridges are cut, use a graphote pencil or a condictie pen to connect them. Mine are cut, but I used a pencil on them. It worked, but if I was going to O/C permanently I would use a conductive pen. Maybe you got lucky and got an unlocked processor. Also, if your Tbird doesn't have the Dresden core (copper interconnects, made in Scottland) then you probably won't get much over 1GHz. The seems to be the bottlneck speed for aluminum interconnects. But, I think all 1GHz and above Tbirds are made in Scotland. More fans is not necessarily good. I have 2 120mm Aluminum Panaflows inf front sucking in, and 1 120mm Aluminum Panaflow exhaust in back along with the power supply fan. This gives me a positive airflow (more in than out) and that helps keep my system free of dust. You could also do what I plan as soon as the Cold Forge case arrives, cut a sidehole directly over your processor and use a tude to duct fresh air directly into the top of the Orb. Then fabricate a semi-circle duct to direct the exhaust from the Orb to the rear fans. I don't know just how well that would work, but it looks good on paper. Sort of like a windtunnel for your processor. I also want to get a BlueOrb and ramsinks for the Radeon. Too bad the Radeon doesn't have holes to mount a cooler. c>------------------ Who knows what evil lurks in the darkness of The Kave ? www.thekave.net Home of The Klipschmonster!

  14. Mark, Which Radeon did you get? I just got the 64MB DDR and I absolutely love it. I upgraded from an ATI Xpert2000 32MB card. I bought ATI because I'm a quality freak on DVDs, and gaming is secondary to DVDs on my systems. I was surprised that I could actually see a difference in display quality on the Radeon. I didn't think it could get much better than what I had. Of course, It could be my monitor c> ------------------ Who knows what evil lurks in the darkness of The Kave ? www.thekave.net Home of The Klipschmonster!
