  1. Thanks, I needed to hear that.....got to rationalize my purchases. This hobby is becoming an obsession. What next!?
  2. Should I upgrade my Synergy SB-3 and SC-1 to Reference RB-3 and RC-3? Will there be a great difference or should I spend the money elswhere? Any opinions would be welcome
  3. For under $1000, you could upgrade to the SB-3's and SC-1 and use your Quintets as surrounds. You could also look at the Synergy 6 sans the sub I guess you could also get into the Reference line if you only buy a Center and, say, two bookshelf speakers for fronts...how nice to upgrade. Good luck
  4. Miles Agree with everyone above. I have the SB-3's in a HT setup and am going to upgrade to the RB-5's soon. Alternatives that you consider depend on your budget... I recently spent about $300 on B&W DM303's for a two channel system in our study and have been quite pleased. I think that the RB-5's would sound better in a heads-in comparison but they are also more expensive. So if price is a consideration, look at these. I had liked paradigm atoms/titans in this price range but think that the B&W's are better. Actually, I like my SB-3's better than the Titans as well. $600 and up, the B&W DM600 series are good....you may want to compare this to the Klipsch. I listened to Sonus Faber and have liked these as well. Speakers that I have also heard good things about are Monitor Audio and Energy. Bottom line, you will love the RB-5's. Narrow down your choices based on your budget (and availability) and bring your own music and you will find that the RB-5's sound great next to most other speakers
  5. I meant to say that speakers used in theaters are horn systems....sorry about the confusion
  6. I don't know much but I thought that speakers were horn systems. If this is correct, I would think to recreate the theater experience in your home, a horn system would be the way to go. I have a Synergy HT setup and am very happy. One day may get to step up to Reference series.
  7. The Denon 3802 is great. You may also want to look at the Onkyo 787/797. I think they retail around $1000. We were fortunate enough to get an Onkyo 787 for our bedroom for $600. I just need to choose some speakers for it. Wonder how Klipsch would sound with this
  8. I can tell you about the HS-1's. I have them outside and they sound pretty good. I can also tell you that I am probably one of the few who use indoor/outdoor speakers in a HT setup. I think the big reason for this is that I am very new to HT and had no idea what i was doing. I have the SA-1's as my front left and right. The whole setup was put together by my installer as a compromise between form and function and sounds pretty good. I am not crazy about the SA-1's for music in stereo and have talked with him about changing them out. I want a fuller sound with a little more midbass (I think this is what i want at least). I have actually listened to the paradigm atoms which are smaller and come in white (thus fitting my wife's criteria) and are a less expensice option. However the room I have the speakers in is very large and he suggested the SA-2's. We are going to give them a try and maybe the atoms and we'll see what happens. The bottom line is that the SA-1 sounds much better to me than the HS-1 pair that I have. You may want to consider these if they are in your budget cause I think they may sound better in your setup. Take all of this with a grain of salt as I am really a clueless beginner.
  9. I have the SCW-1's as surrounds and am pretty happy with them. I also have SCW-1's in the dining room and think they sound good there too. Outside, we have HS-1's which are ok. Our center channel is a SC-1 and the front left and right speakers are SA-1's. This system was put together by our audio guy as a compromise between form and function. The SCW-2's are a better matchf for the center but size was an issue. Likewise, while I like the speakers, I am still ambivalent about the fronts...I would at least switch to a bookshelf if I could....anyway, I digress. I have read that in walls and ceiling speakers aren't the greatest for surrounds but what I have sounds good to me.....but I am not the most sophisticated listener
  10. I have bought a new system....SA-1 indoor/outdoor for front left/right, SC-1 Center, 10' SUB, and KSW-1 for surrounds with a Denon 3802 receiver. Is this ensemble of speakers a good one in terms of matching? The dealer kind of threw this together. The front and surrounds are a compromise with my decorating conscious wife. I think the home theater sounds ok but I am a little ambivalent about the front speakers when listening to music in stereo. I would appreciate any comments on this setup...I have talked with the dealer about a change in the fronts, he suggested the SA-2's.
