  1. Mike, Been a while since I have visted the board. I just got done with finals. I love the k-horns and the system I put together, but I'm moving out of the house at the end of summer and these will not fit the new space. Going to have to downsize even though I went threw alot to get these. One day I will own a pair again as they are in my opion the best used or new speaker for the money. I'm just glad I finally got a chance to listen to music the way it truly sounds. I went through alot of equipment in the last few months and the best I heard with these speakers was SET. I didn't think at first the low power would be enough for my musical tastes, but in the end it the k-horns and set amp was a match made in heaven. Well got to go but I will stay in touch. Justin
  2. Well I'm moving and these have to go. These K-horns are light oak and I purchased them from the original owner in January of this year. They are mid 80's vintage with consecutive serial numbers. My asking price is $1700. The only mark on either speaker is a circle on the top of one where someone sat something on it, but it is nothing that could not be oiled out I just have not had the time. Let me know if you are interested and feel free to call me at 1-260-854-9319 ask for Justin. I'm located in northern Indiana about 20 minutes from Michigan area code 46784
  3. It has been two months of waiting, but the k-horns finally arrived from N.C. on Sunday. It has been a while since I last posted. I took these last couple of months and did alot of research into the world of tubes.By no means am I an expert, but I have gained alot of knowledge about tubes.I also researched different equipment that I thought would suite my musical preferences. So far my 2 channel system consists of a cary spl98l, bat vk60, and of course my k-horns. On the way is a rega planet 2000. Right now all I have to use as a cd player is my sony dvd player and in one word the sound is magical. I have never heard in my home or anywhere else a system that sounds as good as the one I have. I have already started to experiment with different 6sn7 tubes and yes there is a difference between tubes. The only other upgrade I have to do is my cables and I have already decided to go with the DIY cables. I know mobile recommended I go set, but don't worry I have enough money left to pick up a set amp if I feel the urge to experiment. I thank everyone who gave helpful advice on this board and also over at AA. Although I never posted questions most of the ones I had where already answered.
  4. Thank you for your responses. I have never heard any of these and I'm glad mobile gave me some ideas. Mobile Homeless, considering my musical tastes and the amp which I have chosen, do you think the wright sound labs or the aes would be better for my application. I also want the pre to versitile, in that I can try many different amp combinations with it if I don't like the sound of the otl. I got it for a good price and figured I would give it a try. I didn't get alot of info on different amps except the otl8 and the moondogs, which I will eventually try when my musical tastes have changed. I open to any oponions on a preamp or amp in that matter that would suit me.
  5. The AE3 superamp was designed by the owner of cary and is sold by upscale audio. Go to there web site for more info.
  6. That would happen to be JBryan!
  7. Well here is an update and a few more questions. I have decided to purchase a transdescent otl8 from a very helpful person I met here on the klipsch website. All i have left is the preamp for my new system. Here are the ones I have narrowed it down to: Emotive Audio Erato, Jadis DPl, White Audio labs vt1, Sonic Frontiers sfl2, Joule Electra LA100, abd the Ah-3 DJH preamp sold by upscale audio. They are all within the 1000-2000 price range used except for the ah-3 DJH version that I can buy new for 1400. Any help in this decision process would be very appreciated.
  8. Well Mike I have two places that are near that deal with tubes. The first was a place that carried Cary amps. They where hooked to some klipsch ksp400. Sound was a hell of lot more natuaral than any solid state I had ever listened to. I brougth with me a copy of kenny wayne shepherd and tantric. The next tubes I listened to where at a B&W dealer. The tubes where mac and they where powering a pair of b&w 803. I was not at all flattered by the sound they produced. They did sound better with the mac tubes than some solid state gear by classe that was hooked to another pair of 803's. In my oponion the klipsch with their 3000 dollar Cary amp sounded a hell of lot better than did the b&W mcintosh 15,000. Of course this is my oponion judged by my ears. I love the sound the tubes produced through the klipsch.
  9. Well everything has been sold except the soveriegn so if anyone wants it make a reasonable offer.
  10. Well I'm torn between two tube amps. First is the transdecent otl-8 and the second is the bat vk60. The bat uses single ended circuitry, but provides more power than a moondog or the transcendent. It is going to be one of these two so could someone please help me in making my decision. I do not have the ability to hear either so I'm going to have to play it by advice.
  11. Thanks for all the replies. JBryan, I'm not to much into over down bass with gobs of thump. Just quick bass you can feel while listening to dynamic music. By the way I love the sound of horns. I sold my klf-20 setup a few months back and bought a pair of paradigm studio 100'sv2. While they where nice speakers they didn't have that feeling that I got while listening to my klipsch. So I got ride of them and I listened to many speakers, including the B&W nautilis 803(way overrated)nht 3.3,psb goldi and anyother speakers I could listen to within a 200 mile radius. Nothing to me came close to the sound that I remembered from my klf series. So I figured you never have enough of a good thing so I found a pair of khorns and jumped on the opurtinity to buy them. I can't wait to hear them in my home. I think based on the information that everyone has given so far that a transcendent otl8 might just be what i'm looking for. If I decide that it is not what I want then I could sell it and get a moondog. I do also listen to other types of music besides rock. I also like some classical and a few jazz albums. No matter who it is I like a lot of acoustic guitar. At first I hated bands like creed and other new age rock groups, until I saw them in concert. Also where have or do you now of an trandescent otl8 amp selling for 900. I would definitely pick one up. Also have you tried the upgrade from trancendent that lowers the noise of the amp. Also at this moment I'm listening to the eagles through a pair of sb3's that i bought my dad for christmas.
  12. Sorry, I wasn't trying to be sensative. I realyy do apperciate your help, mobile homeless. You know wayaround tube gear and I'm just trying to find the etup for me that gives me the best sound for the type of music I listen to. I went over to look at the otls, they look like nice amps. What about the big brother the otl i think it was 8. Have you ever heard this one matched to a pair of k-horns. right know I'm open to all possibilities on the equipment i should pair with my khorns. I agree on the subject of not using a sub with music and also keeping the ht and music system seperate. I got ride of my ht setup to go strictly a two channel one, because I listen to music 90% of the time and could never get the sound in music I was looking from my H.T. setup. I'm not really into all the audiophile terms. I just think that if a system sounds the way you or I want ours to then we each have the best system in the world to us, because that is what you or I like. I'm just looking for something to work magic with my khorns, nothing more or less
  13. Thanks Mike for telling me to ask this question here with many fellow audio enthusiasts who have been very helpful.
  14. I knew some of you where going to give me a hard time about liking certain bands, but don't judge em until you see them live. Creeds concert walked all over the aerosmith concert I went to. Just to let you know I'm 20 And have always listened to rock, not heavy metal, but just rock. I also listen to stevie ray vaugnh, led zepllin, pink floyd, and a host of others. Given some of these bands don't put out the best of recordings, some of them put out pretty good ones. I don't listen at levels that drive someone out of the room. Everyone has there taste of music and mine is what it is. I do appreciate all the help on this though.
  15. It sounds like the moondogs are the way to go. I have a few other questions. I listen to most rock, for example creed, lifhouse, etc. I like to listen at around 90-95 decibels from my seating position of around 15 ft. away from where the speakers will be located. My 2 channel only room is about 16ft. wide by 22 ft. long. Will the moondogs provide the sound you describe and this is the sound I'm looking for, at my given listening levels and the dimensions of my room . Also what preamp would you recommend to use with the combination of the khorns and the moondog. I have a little over a thousand left after I purchase the amps to spend on a preamp. Once again thanks for all the advice.
