  2. Thank you all so much for your prompt and thorough responses. OK, I looked at my equipment as it is now and here's what I have: Amp: Sanyo JA V14 Stereo Amp Speakers: Sanyo SS 690 Floorstanding X 2 Record Player: JVC QL-Y3F with Grado stylus Tuner: Sanyo external Yes, I know most of it is likely terrible, but it's what I have to build with now. I actually got the record player and stylus from a forum member here on these boards some time ago and I believe it to be a very good tunrtable for my needs at this point. The amp could be servicable, but again I don't know too much about this. My major complaints with the setup is the muffled highs/mids, hiss and the skipping of the records (does this have something to do with the arm?). My room is a small bedroom in an apartment. I am running at relatively low volumes but would like to have a nice full range of sound even at these lower volumes. I know a little bit about tube amplifiers because I play guitar and have purchased a tube amplifier there (though I was looking for one that would distort []). Being a law student, I have a limited budget and would like to make some significant improvements for under $1000. You guys are all great, thanks for the advice. I plan on keeping my eyes out for some Heresys as they seem to be the most recommended speaker for my purposes. Any idea how much of an improvement I can expect with the Heresys and an older HK receiver over my current Sanyo setup? Please don't snicker if Sanyo is the lowest of all stereo companies (I'll admit again how new I am at this!) Thanks!
  3. I have what would probably be called by most members here zero practical knowledge with home stereo setup, so please bear with me. At this point I have a nice turntable in good working condition and an older amp and pretty terrible floorstanding speakers. In this setup, I think I plan to only keep the turntable. What can you suggest as far as amps and speakers for a modest setup? I will be listening to a wide range of music (rock, classical, electronic, etc.) but in a small area (apartment). I don't need the system to be very loud, just have a good sound to it. I do not need a surround sound system, I just want an old stero, two-speaker system. I want to hook up the turntable, a radio tuner (suggestions?) and a cd player (again, suggestions?). My budget could be described as student-like. I don't mind buying used or older equipment as long as it sounds good and fills my needs. Any and all suggestions are much appreciated!
  4. OK, that's fine with me. What's your recommendation?
  5. No, there's no track setting adjustment wheel. I actually tried the penny idea before, not to convenient hehe. The cable gives a very very fainty signal, so I dont know.
  6. I have a sanyo turntable. Problem is I'm only getting reception from the left channel. I tried switching the channels but then the left channel was dead. Is it most likely the cable or is it maybe the needle or stylus? Also, the unit tends to skip alot. Even if I tiptoe around it skips. I don't know much about turntables so I could use the help, thanks.
  7. OK, thanks for your help so far. So, if I want to hook up these two speakers to a CD Changer and my TV, all I need is a stereo receiver? Since I plan on expanding later on, possibly a surround sound receiver? What are good brands and models? What can I expect to pay?
  8. I appologize for my ignorance, I don't know much about setting a sound system up. Well the thing is I have these two speakers, plus I probably will get two additional speakers for the rear. I want good bass response, so that's why I was talking about a subwoofer. Basically I'm just looking for examples of receivers or amps or whatever that I would need that would work with my setup.
  9. Also, at some point, I might hook up two rear speakers and possible a subwoofer. And I also need a hookup for a turntable. Thanks.
  10. I'm getting a pair of floorstanding speakers from a friend. Nothing fancy at all, just a small setup for my new apartment at college. On the back of each speaker, it says that the Maximum Input Power is 120W and the Impedence is 8 ohm. Now, being as this is all I have so far, what else do I need to put together a small sound system. I don't need full surround sound or anything crazy. Just a budget system that will play the radio, CDs, and will properly power these speakers. Any advice is appreciated. Thanks!
  11. I had the infamous scratchy knobs problem a few months back and I decided that instead of getting a whole new set of speakers, I would just upgrade to the CP1 control pod. That fixed the scratchiness problem. Now, over the last few days, my right channel speakers, both front and rear, have lost most of their volume. They are completely unbalanced to the left side. If I fade my source audio to the right, it is barely a whisper. I have switched stas and it's not the sats themselves. Is this and amp issue? If so, what can I do about it?
  12. OK, here's what I'm looking at. I am getting a new apartment and want to put together a nice little system for my room. I don't want to go absolutely crazy (no need for $5000 receivers) but I would like to make it sound nice. I was thinking dual RF-7's with an RC-7 center, two RS-7 surrounds and a RSW-15 subwoofer. What I really need to know is what is a good receiver for this setup, do I need an amp, if so which one, what's the best suggested wire to use, what gauge, anything that is important to note? I also would like to know if this setup would be complete overkill. Thanks for your help.
  13. Well between the $150 for a new amp, the $50 for a CP-1, and however much it costs for wires, not to mention aggrevation and no guarantee as to an improvement of the problems nor a significant increase of quality of sound, I don't see the purpose of fixing the speakers. I am kinda thinking about picking up the 5.1's, but I really have lost faith in Klipsch. You simply can't put out a product that costs top dollar that will break down so completely in less than 2 years. That's just bad business.
  14. I plugged the FR speaker into the RR output on the sub and i get no sound . So what, my right rear channel is dead inside the amp in the sub? There's nothing I can do to fix this? I spent over $300 on these speakers and they're quickly turning into a pile of garbage.
  15. Well I've had my 2.400's for almost 2 years now and I have become increasingly frustrated with them. It seemed like right after my warranty ran out, I started having major problems. I have the notorious scratchy volume control problem. But two problems I am having now seem to be unique. I am getting alot of random pops through the speakers. This will occur even when I am not playing music. It is weird to hear a loud pop at 3 in the morning from speakers that aren't even playing music. Also, and probably more frustrating, my rear right speaker is completely dead, not even a peep out of it and my right front speaker is very scratchy, as if all sounds that are sent through it are overdriven. Here are the options I have been considering, let me know what you think. I am probably just going to get the CP-1 for the pre-amp so I can take care of the scratchy volume problem. To fix the dead RR sat I am going to get new wire (the sat works fine when plugged into FL, RL and FR). What kind of wire should I get and how would I go about setting it up with the plugs and everything. If all else fails, I might look at the 5.1's, but I don't think I should have to replace a top of the line speaker system less than 2 years after I purchased it, especially since I have been having problems for half of the time I have owned them. Any and all help is appreciated.

    HT Newbie

Well I didn't set a budget because I am not buying the system soon and I really don't know much about putting a HT system together so I wanted to see what I would need. It doesn't matter to me how it is setup, I just want a system that has a jigh level of clarity, strong bass and will last. For a ballpark budget, maybe nothing over $5000 or $6000.

    HT Newbie

Hey everyone. I'm new to the boards and new to HT setups, but not new to Klipsch products. I'm looking into seting up a killer Home Theater but I honestly don't know much about it. I was hoping to get your suggestions on what to look for. Here's some specs I think I want: -Strong yet clear satellites -Powerful sub that can kick when needed or rumble when needed -Receiver that can hanlde all the speakers as well as digital surround sound decoding -Appropriate amp -CD Changer (as large as possible) -Cables As well as anything I might have missed. Price, as of now, is no matter. Any and all suggestions are appreciated. Thanks in advance.
