  1. You know...they should just say that! Makes more sense! "With our new Sound Sprayer Technology, this things thows sound hither and tither!" Could be a new slogan!
  2. So that is a fancy way of saying "you can stick this thing anywhere and it should sound good"?
  3. Bookshelfs were custom made to fit on either side of the fireplace (sorry...should have put all this in my original post) and the TV is mounted over the fireplace. Do you all think the RS42's would be ok in the upper rear corners, maybe pulled out a foot- 1.5'?
  4. So I have been trying to read up on what this is all about. I cant find one clear answer (at least none that I can understand). What is it and what does it do? Also...I was told by some guys at my local Klipsch Dealer (very knowledgable guys BTW) who stated that RS42's would be ok in my upper rear corners (pulled forward a little bit towards the front of the room), even though one "corner" is open in the rear to the kitchen. What do you all think I should use in the rears? The couch MUST stay where it is. Wall behind the couch for the bottom left corner is 6' long, then opens to the kitchen for the other 9'. Also, would Reference II speakers work ok with a Yamaha 765 receiver, or would it be too bright? Here is a picture of the layout:
  5. So the guys at the speaker store stated that with the Wide Dispersion Technology I should have any issue installign RS42's in the upper rear corners (pulled forward a little) on the side walls. Anyone whole-heartedly disagree with that? Would I gain anything turning them 90* so they fire up to the ceiling and down to the floor?
  6. So here is the picture of my room layout regarding the placement of rears I should use in my setup (if someone can chime in on their opinion I would appreciate it). I went and listened to the RB51's for the mains again and in some types of music I liked them more than other speakers, in some I liked them less (or the same). For HT use they rocked. My room is heavily damped regarding echos with the floors being carpet and a huge sectional. The guys at the store suggested RS42's in the upper rear corners, pulled forward a little. Anyways, does anyone see any issues with using the Reference II's with a Yamaha RX-V765 receiver, or would it be "too bright"?
  7. Lucky you with the wire! I use Monoprice 14gauge. Some of the best I have found, and it is CL2 rated for inwall use. I have enough slack where I can move the speaker around probably 2 feet front to back to get a descent sound.
  8. The speakers wires are already run....and I wish it was as easy to do as running them in the attic. Trying to get it through the ceiling joists between floors was a b**ch!
  9. Yes...she saw it....and said the speakers were too small (j/k).
  10. That is what I was thinking...hanging them from the ceiling angled down.
  11. Problem is the couch can't be moved. Also, the speaker in the right rear will be firing into the kitchen since there is no wall, only the sound hitting the soffit will be bounced back, but won't be hitting a rear wall per se.
  12. Got ya. I have enough space for them. Hey scrappydue....what size living so you have where you have 41/42's in it. Do you think it is a good setup? Where are your surrounds located, and is there room behind your listening position for the surrounds to be effective? I have a thread with a picture in it, and if haven't already done so I would like your input for the surrounds(getting confused as to who had responded and who hasn't!). Thanks.
  13. I think the dispersion should be ok....or I can try to rotate it inside the box. it will not fit under the mantel, and I dont have room for another one.
  14. This is just our den, not a theater room, so aesthetics are coming into play. I have been looking at the icons, but they are becoming hard to find. I wish they also had a smaller satellite for the rear corners. I do not want a huge box sitting up there on the mantel. If I was going to do a fake wall I would just mount an inwall speaker like I did at my townhouse and be done with it. I can get such a good deal on the 51's, that is why I was trying to think outside the box. Mustang guy....if I had a man cave like yours I could get anything I wanted, in fact she ok'd a theater in the basement, but is part of our major remodel plans so it is a few years off. Until that time, and since she makes formal-living-area-decisions, it is what it is. If you are married, I am sure you know what I am talking about. Dtel....it has to fit between the TV and the fireplace mantel, so if I go any bigger I can't fit a bigger TV on the wall, which I am sure is coming down the pipe soon.
  15. Got ya. Do you think the RS 41 with 2 horns and 1mid shooting straight out is a better setup, or the RS 42 with a horn and tweeter on both sides is better?
  16. Going to be a 5.1 system. Front mains will be on bookscases that are 18" deep, and the center will be on a mantel over the fireplace but under the TV. The rears will be up in the rear corners of the room...so a typical traditional 5.1 system. The bookcases are cherry, and looks almost like the finish of the icon w line. Room is 15x15, i have a diagram for a thread I started in the HT forum regarding surround speaker locations and type.
  17. So you are saying mount them on the side walls near the corner with the back wall/soffit? What speaker are you talking about as well, the RS41 or 42?
  18. I understand what center belongs to those mains, but my wife has stated if it is over 6" tall, then it has to be short. If it is under (for aesthetic reasons) 6", then it can be longer. I am keeping my F12 sub. RS's will not work in my environment, as the couch is against the rear wall, and the speakers have to be in the back upper corners. Going monopole in the rears I think.
  19. Just like the title states...what is the difference? Is it worth the price premium?
  20. I think I might have gotten the wifes approval for a slightly higher center channel, ONLY if it is shorter. Which means that I could get another set of RB51's and turn one on its side! If I did that I could cover it with some black speaker fabric (whatever the technical term is)....couldnt I? I then could do the RB41's for the rears. What do you all think? Also, I still need more help in my other thread about rear speaker placement if anyone can chime in on that. Thanks!
  21. Sorry...should have pointed out that the thick black line on the left side are the walls...so essentially where you drew the left surround would be inside my walls! The couch is tucked all the way in the corner, with a full height wall on the left and rear. After the 6' of wall, then it opens in the back to the kitchen.
  22. I havent bought anything yet. I can not fit the RC52 into my environment (per the wife that is!). Youthman....I placed a link to a drawing I did showing what I am working with. Sorry it takes you to another forum, but for some reason putting the picture in my thread isnt working.
  23. So I am trying to figure out what kind of speakers I should use as my rears, the traditional monopoles in the rear corners, or bi/dipoles somewhere else. The ceiling is 9' high, and the front mains would be sitting in bookshelves in the front, and the center would be under the TV mounted on the wall, and sitting on the fireplace mantel. The rear left corner is one location I was thinking, where the left wall meets the rear wall. The right corner is actually where the right wall meets a soffit. What kind of speakers would you recommend, and where would you place them? The couch MUST stay were it is against the rear wall. I was told to put something like Klipsch RS42's in the rear corners (if I went with Klipsch speakers), while others have stated that I should just use RB41's. I need some help as all the speaker placement guides give suggestions for when there is room behind the couch. EDIT:I just looked at the Reference owners manual....it looks like the RS42 would be the best bet, with the rear firing speakers hitting the soffit on the one side, and the rear wall behind the couch (ears are about 2 feet in front of the rear wall) from the other side. It looks like the picture in the manual. Any suggestions, or am I reading it wrong? Also, does anyone see any issue with running a RC42 and then using RB51's for my mains? Cant seem to insert the picture I wanted to...it can be seen here: http://www.avsforum.com/t/1458980/what-kind-of-rears-to-use-monopole-dipole-etc-and-where-picture-included#post_22983572
