  1. Y'all don't get me wrong. I very much prefer a recording which has what I consider to be a natural, balanced sound (perhaps described as "warm"). I guess what gets me going is when people talk about an amp or a speaker as sounding "warm". I can make a "cold" recording sound warmer by running it through an equalizer, but absent an equalizer, a high fidelity system should accurately reproduce the signal that it is fed, IMO.

  2. Any words about their X Ref 12 sub.

I have one of their subs and believe that it performs very well. It's small so it fits behind a chair in the corner of my family room. I checked their website today and it's no longer listed though so i'm wondering if it's discontinued.

You may want to check out the Klipsch RW-12D which is now on sale for $280. You could get two of them for the price of an X-Ref 12.

  3. I just added a RC-64 II to my 2 channel RF-7 II setup powered by a Marantz NR-1402 receiver. I've enjoyed the receiver until I added the center channel.

The receiver is constantly changing the surround settings depending on the program material. I.E, one tv station will play only in stereo while another will use all 3 channels. It will even change modes when going to commercial.

Anyone know how to defeat this? Or is it common for modern receivers to change mode depending on the material? I've always thought that the center channel just received a combination of the left and right channel signals.

    Thanks in advance!

  4. I've been running my RF-7II's and Emotiva X-Ref 12 sub from a little 50 watt per channel Marantz NR-1402 receiver. It performs well and doesn't take up very much space in my TV stand since it's one of their "slim-line" receivers.

The on screen setup menus are absolutely terrible however which was a big pain for me since I didn't like how the automatic Audyssey settings sounded and had to set it up manually.

If you're wondering about amplifier power requirements for your speakers; I would refer you to Chuck Hawks excellent article where he specifically addresses RF-7's at http://www.chuckhawks.com/speaker_spl_amp_power.htm

Best of luck on your search.
