  1. Sure I'll need a powerful home audio amp to make some decent comparison... But it was enough to see that a lot of people are talking no sense when they say power is not THAT important, all because home amps have great supply caps and a lot of stuff that guarantee a lot of power when is needed. I know, a home amp with a lot of power would perform better but how does it costs? Except Emotiva, probably is 3 times more expensive. Today I'm sure that it better pay for a lot of power coming from a pro amp instead of get a weak home amp...
  2. Yes! Just build your speakers and listen how it sounds with your setup before buy new amps.
  3. You'll get a lot of advantages running with higher impedances: Higher damping factor, lower distortion, more power reserve to transients.... In fact, with 100dB of sensibility, lack of power isn't a issue at all. Running with 12 Ohm impedance was a great tip for you.
  4. Hum, sorry about that There is no problem with speaker connected in series, but you'll obviously get less power from the amps in 12 Ohms...
  5. If you'll use the internal crossover, changing the impedance of the system, the cutoff frequencies will change,
  6. Did you forget the pro amps? IMHO, before you buy that exotic amps for home use, you have to be sure that you're going to listen some difference between all that exclusive components and that very large supply caps that suppose to provide a "unique sound experience" and all that adjectives that I really don´t understand. Here in Brazil we made a test with a (good) professional amp with 250W and a home use amp with 35W. Besides the power, the difference was the professional maker didn´t spend money buying that expensive connection and audiophile components. No one chose the side of the lighter home use amp. The difference was mainly about bass. The low frequencies ran away when I played the weaker amp. And I'm tanking about a simple bookshelf speakers. I know it wasn´t a scientific test but the difference against the weaker amp was clear for me. The Emotiva are the only home use amp I ever seen that worth the money. The price range is quite equal the pro range and the design is good for home use. The audiophile people have my respect but I just don´t listen the difference between a ordinary amp or cables and the audiophile ones. May be I don´t have a good room, my music source isn´t that good or my ears are not good enough to hear any difference. So, IMHO pay more for that stuff is like throw my money away.
  7. It seems to be a nice receiver, but I really prefer something simpler. I don't need all that digital stuff nor all that channels. I was looking for something like Rotel RA-10... Today I figured out Emotiva amps, like UPA-200 that seems really nice....
  8. I'm looking for something up to U$600
  9. Hi guys, I got a year ago a pair of RB51II to compose my stereo. Right now I have a professional amplifier with 34W per channel and 6ch mixer. Those equipments are from a professional system which is not much suitable for home use. I was looking for a stereo amp which is to much difficult to find. All I've ever seen seems to be underpowered, like Marantz PM6004 or Rotel RA-10 (40-45W). I'm afraid to buy one of them and get disappointed with some lack of power to deliver all the bass that these speakers are capable. (I know that they are too far away from a sub, but I saw them with a HK990 and they are quite impressive) I thought to buy a HK 3490 which deliver something about 120W per channel and seems to deliver a lot of bass with every speaker connected to it. But I'm really afraid about the problems involving the "protection system" that keeps the receiver turning off with any little problem. I live in Brazil and here these equipments are quite expensive, so I need a amp with a robust circuits or easy to find electronics (instead of all that Chips or ICs that HK uses). Someone have some tip? I'd like a amp that will deliver all that I could take from my RB-51 since I'm not planning to get a sub.
