  1. How often do you apply to your speakers, runninshine?
  2. Hi all, would like some thoughts on what you think would be a better match with K-horns or would either one be good. Is one brighter than the other? And what is a good price to pay for one? Don't know much about either one, other than power ratings and what i have researched on the web. Thanks
  3. Well I just scored my first vintage receiver, a Sansu 661. Very nice sounding unit indeed! I did notice a 'hum' when i switch speakers on, or between songs, when there is no music playing. Any thoughts on this or is this just vintage gear. Other than that it sounds really good for a low powered unit.
  4. Hello all, the 9090 Sansui receiver i was looking at got away. So i am wondering if a Sansui 661 would be a huge compromise to drive my K-horns, can get one in great condition for 75 dollars.Or should i just hold out for the Monster!
  5. $$$$$$$$ or I would!!! Someday, but for now Im looking for vintage SS.
  6. Will k-horns sound thin with this receiver
  7. Hello all, wondering if anyone has any experience or knowledge about a Sansui 661 receiver. How would it sound with K-horns? Can score one for 75 bucks. Thanks
  8. They will sound nice! Update your caps if you have not already done so, inexpensive and worth the time to do. Bob has those as well. Good luck
  9. FWIW, just to add, if anybody has the ability to set their system up like I have this one i think it would be fun to try/experience. Unreal how much more detail you get, keep in mind the speakers should have the same/matched components.ie drivers. If you try it share your experience!Have a blast!
  10. I get Klipsch are efficient, but still need power for bottom end. I now understand why people like hybrids
  11. UPDATE: I just spent 2.5 hrs tearing down one system and setting up another to test my K-horns! Results: Bottom line is a Yahama HTR 5150 doesn't cut the mustard to deliver enough power to the K-horns!Sound fine for highs and mids, zero to the woofers. I hooked up my Adcom GFA 535 to them and there it was! I suspected this all along, but didn't think it would be that drastic. They are not as pronounced in the low end as the other pair is with a GFA 555,but sounds nice. Proly should have tried this right away, but like I said, didn't suspect that it would be that noticeable. Thanks to everyone,I think we all learned a little something from this. Have a good day and happy listening!
  12. Would be strange to me that both speakers ohm identical 2.5-2.7 and woofers be cooked, but i suppose could happen. How do i check them? What causes this?
  13. Stuff hooked up to the network? Electronics? Both read the same, bounce between 2.5 and 2.7 I'm checking on the terminals. Yes electronics are hooked up when tested.
  14. My other pair is 3.6. Does this mean anything that there is a difference? Or like you said it falls in the "range". Thanks.
  15. Carl B, glad to hear someone else can relate to my issue. I was going to hook a different source to it,but after looking at it,its way too involved.Pretty confidant its the source. Going to wait till i find a non-duty receiver(one not in use)for now i'll have to live with it.Kinda sucks but it is a secondary system(work-out room). When the funds become available i will get something vintage as i stated earlier in this post,a Sansui 9090 or Marantz 2020b or both!Same guy has both. Thanks
  16. I have heard that AVRs really aren't a good match also, some said its because they have a sub out jack, just not their niche! Proly gonna go the vintage route. What do you think about a Marantz 2020b? Big enough? I can get one for 150.
  17. Sorry, that is the way the music is "displayed" it just fills the room you can't tell where its coming from , just sounds amazing, like you are there. That is what i was referring to by "coming from the ceiling"! Sorry. The imaging is awesome thats why i didn't think wiring them parallel was a bad thing. Sounds great to me other than no bass.
  18. So what I'm doing is wrong as far as wiring both pair together? Is there a way i can listen to both the way i have my set-up?
  19. Yes i will try hooking that receiver to my otter pair of k-horns, I thought of that as well as it would be easier than tearing down a different system, in my case. I do sit 2/3 of the way back from the k-horns because the k-horns play louder because of efficiency,I just like that arrangement but it may not be for some I suppose. Sound seems like its coming from the ceiling, but still have separation and imaging. All speakers have identical components. Heresys are 77 vintage WO.
  20. Point being Larry, there just isn't much there but they "show" they are "alive" with an ohm meter,if that makes any sense. Also they sound totally in phase as for the tweeters and mids.
  21. Is there a way to check the woofer driver other than a ohm meter? Just want to verify with anyone if it could be the receiver before i tear everything down from another system to try another receiver.
  22. Phase is good. Room size 16x16. I have a pair in another room diven by a Adcom 555,same exact speakers, same year, same mods all done at same time. That room is 16x18. good bass response from those.
  23. Ok, here is what I did. Unhooked the heresys, unhooked the sub as in unplugged it. Set speakers to large which they were currently set to,selected "main" for bass and no difference! Starting to git a bit frazzled! So then I hooked up the here sys to speaker B and played them w/o sub and no bass (i know heresys don't have much bottom end)best description is thin and muddy bass response on both pair. I do not think there is anything wrong with my K-horn drivers do you? I am a little concerned about that but the heresys sound like crap too!
  24. It only makes sense to me because when I select sub or main only there is no bass but when I select both then there is bass but predominately from the sub. I will keep you posted on the outcome. Thanks
  25. No Budman I did not use a meter but did do the menu thing. So do you think it is a receiver issue if so I will just try a different one.
