  1. Nice! have you all had feedback on the sound/quality of these?
  2. No need for phone and 2 inputs would be fine thanks
  3. Hey all! I just bought a used Yamaha MX-800U amp and I have to say it's loud and clean! I have a pair of RF-7ii's and am now considering a tube pre. Is this a waste because I have a SS amp? If not what can/should I get for my price range? Thanks Guys! Dave
  4. are these still available? I am interested please PM me Thanks Dave
  5. UGH!!! I know I know....I am a guitar player so I have experienced first hand the tube thing....just don't have a grand to "experiment" with tubes right now
  6. LOL....so reading and experimenting with 2 channel instead of using my AVR to power my RF-7ii's I ran across this unit for $40 on craigs list. I would say I heard a huge difference from what I was using (Yamaha RX-V890) and this thing has some POWER! Its not at all perfect but for 40 bucks I would say it was worth it. I also found (didn't buy) an old Sansui QRX-5500 for 150 on craigslist and might try it for the hell of it Pay no attn to the EQ settings I'm still playing around with them Tomorrow my peachtree DAC comes in and I cant wait to see if it will make a difference it will be Apple Lossless files wireless -----DAC----Scott A1610. Anyway until I get some $$ I'm experimenting with older 2 channel stuff for now...it's fun!
  7. Thanks again I talked with the gentleman you spoke of and am still in decision mode I guess. He did mention that the 30 Watt amps would not get me to the higher DB's Have you ever used a DB meter when listening for curiosity?
  8. Room is approx 14x33 and the speakers are up against/facing the 14' space. But I don't sit in front of them most of the time as I have music on when im running around the house. I crank them sometimes (right around 85db)and its really where I think they start to really kick) Right now after the sony Blew up I am using the AV receiver I had for my outside speakers Yamaha RX-V690 in 2 channel mode I listen (100%) to Apple Lossless files (ALAC) that I stream to an original apple TV connected to the receiver with RCA jacks I think it sounds killer but understand it could probably sound better but at what cost so a couple questions 1. How much better sound would I get with a tube amp keeping in mind I like to listen loud so I am not sure if some of the vintage tube amps reconditioned would cut it for me? 2. Is there a play for a DAC somewhere in here? 3. I ran into the Emotiva amps/dacs and they would be more in my price budget so would they do the trick here w/o dropping a fortune? 4. How much better would just a plain old 2 channel yamaha or denon sound as opposed to the AV receivers? Thanks in advance for your help
  9. Guys....here is what it sounds like now
  10. OK.....hooked up an old...and I mean old...Yamaha RX-V690 and it is doing leaps and bounds above what the sony was doing before it died. Tomorrow I shall smash the dead Sony with my log splitter and shop for a real AMP.....thanks for all your help and I cant believe these speakers melted this POS ...BTW ......these things are Massive.... Huge!!!!! Maybe another set is in order hee hee
  11. the receiver powers up,but then displays "protecting" for a few seconds then power down...fuse is same value (fast blow 6.3 amp) and is still working
  12. Only had the RF's powered up for like 1 minute while turining the volume up....receiver was not hot at all....I will try an old yamaha in a bit
  13. Yes Im sorry the fuse did blow, and I replaced it and am now having this issue
  14. Are you using JUST the top terminals or JUST the bottom terminals on the speakers with the jumper plates in tact? Yes, and everything is connected perfectly. 12 gauge wire this time....the receiver does the same thing with speakers disconnected. I think I blew it up....the receiver did not seem to drive these all that well....no where near what the KSF-10.5 sounded like......so Increased the volume until they started to drive and the receiver went on me.... When you say speakers disconnected... Do you mean at the receiver end? If so you definitely have a problem with the receiver imo. Yea at the receiver end...I know I sound like 1/2 an idiot....or a full one actually but I've been doing this stuff for years and never came across this. The receiver is toast. Any idea why it took so much to get the speakers up to a decent volume....enough volume to POP the receiver? I think i remember seeing around "50" volume wise on the sony before they popped....speakers were not all that loud...drivers were hardly moving No you don't sound like an idiot. There is just a process of elimination and everyone is just trying to throw out ideas as to what the problem is. Do you have any other speakers you could hookup just to test? I am wondering if there is a short in the new speakers. I wouldn't think the Sony would have any problem driving the speakers unless something just failed. Thank You So I had the KSF-10.5 hooked up right before I installed the RF-7ii's .....had been for years....Manual from the receiver stated to leave unplugged for 30 minutes and it would reset...didn't work...I'll try anothe receiver but Im nervous...might send them back...sucks

  17. I just went and bought new speaker wire...rewired them and as soon as I turn on the receiver the speakers make a loud static like sound and the receiver displays "protected" on the screen and shut down....could there be something wrong with the crossovers in the speaker(s) ?
  18. Checked inside the receiver, blown fuse. Thoughts?
  19. Hmmmm....so they came in today, and I hooked them up to my Sony STR-DG820 to test. Used 14 gauge copper flat lead polarity was correct on both ends. Started to turn the volume up and the receiver shut off and wont come back on Thoughts? Thanks Dave
  20. The vintage Scott and Fisher integrated amps are a great way to get yourself 80% of the way to tube heaven. The great part is they command great resale value with little end cost for using them upon resale. I love vintage McIntosh but personally I don't care much for the modern McIntosh tube gear they just do not perform like the yesteryear models once the vintage Mac's have been brought up to snuff. You have to put things in perscpetive. You can get into rebuilt Scott or Fisher for $700 to $1100 total expense depending on model and condition with a quality rebuild. You are never going to get into a McIntosh tube rig for less then about 5 grand vintage or newer...I personally believe for 5 grand you can do much better sonically then McIntosh. Heck its so easy to sale them I give 100% trade in value toward my newer custom gear to my customers that purchase them or reasonable close to total investment trade in value if they send there own amplifier for a rebuild and want to trade it in later. I can not give 100% trade in if they purchase the amp elsewhere and just have me rebuild it I have no control over some of these crazy bidding war prices on ebay. If you have any questions please feel free to give me a call. Awesome thanks! I sent you an email from my work account already
  21. I have an older Yamaha Rx-V receiver but am either going to purchase a Yamaha RX-A3030 or a Denon 4520CI in the next week or 2....struggling with which one to buy. Denon seesm to be more popular and has a better THD rating but I really like yamaha products....used them for years I have had several different klipsch speakers most recently RF-7II's and IMHO they do not sound very good on the yamaha's. I have a Yamaha RX-Z11 right now for home theater and for music I switch to an old LK-72 Scott tube amp and it sounds a 1000 times better. Yea I need to find a good reasonably priced tube amp....which is probably tough.....I am a guitar player so understand the difference for sure Craig Ostby at NOS Vavles deals in new and rebuilt older tube stuff and is very resonable and a great guy. I just bought a H.H. Scott LK-72 from him that he re-did. You can get a hold of him here http://www.nosvalves.com/vrd.htm. Do these older AMPS sound better than the newer ones like Mcintosh? Looks like the LK-72 can be had for around 700 or so
