  1. Hi guys, Thanks for the advice I have received so far. Keith, I had planned on getting a set of KSP400's for the HT but they are few and far between - particularly at a price I am willing to pay. The thing is they don't appeal to my 'brute' sense of self; they are tall but are rather dainty. I am looking for a more primal kind of appearance hence my quest for 'old school' Klipsch. Yeah, I may have to disgard the S6's and C6, or more likely hide them in another room so the wife isn't aware they no longer match until I pick up some KSP's but hell I have another ten or so years before those things even age properly. For the right amount of money I certainly could be persuaded to part with them though. I need big sound that can only come from a big speaker - but not Cornwall big. Of course, at the right price, I could find room. This is my understanding so far: Chorus II's are awesome with slightly less bass than Fortes and supposedly more coloration of the source with less forgiveness of 'cheap' equipment. Forte II's are supposed to be an improvement over the original Forte but some claim the sound was ruined. I am contemplating a new source setup to include an Outlaw preamp and power amplifier. Why? Because I want to make the music truly come to life - I want to be able to imagine sitting front row at a Queensryche concert. I want to hear every subtle nuance of Ted Nugent's Gibson guitar playing Cat Scratch Fever. And I hope the HT experience is just as compelling. Oh, yeah, and a SVS sub is clearly on the shopping list down the road - just gotta sell the almost new, in perfect condition Klipsch subwoofer I currently have. Give me an order of preference on these three speakers (Forte, Forte II, and Chorus II) fellow owners - pro's and con's. Thanks. ------------------ Fronts - KG4's Center - C6 Surrounds - S6's Sub - KSW200 Powered by - YAM995 This message has been edited by crash827 on 01-31-2002 at 10:21 PM
  2. This was posted to the HT forum but it seems 2 channel is where the fanatics are and I need lots of feedback! Here it is: Ok guys, Here's the deal. I have had my system intact for two years and the upgrade bug has been biting me hard for 6 months; about the time I started reading this board religiously. I have decided I MUST buy a new set of mains - not that I will ever get rid of the old set - and am thinking Fortes or Choruses must occupy a piece of my HT. Perhaps I will use the KG4's as rear surrounds, who knows? I just love these speakers. I listen to all kind of music - classical and country the least - but primarily like rock, alternative, blues, and jazz. I am also a big time movie buff so 5.1 performance is a must. Real simple. Should I buy Forte, Forte II, or Chorus II? Is the sound difference between Forte (either) and Chorus worth the difference in the price of admission? Look forward to your thoughts cause I got a pocket full of quarters and it is time to buy something! Keep in mind, the wife believes we need a new car and I am trying to get her to understand we have to prioritize our purchases - so sound advice on the best possible speaker choice is absolutely crucial! ------------------ Fronts - KG4's Center - C6 Surrounds - S6's Sub - KSW200 Powered by - YAM995
  3. Hi chuckears, Thanks for your input. Cornwalls! I know everyone touts them but they are just too wide in my opinion. Perhaps one day - the Klipsch crusade never ends you know. Religiously? There are 180+ posts that are returned if you do a search on Fortes. I have read them all. I have also read all the reviews on audioreview but the owners on this board hold more weight in my mind. My eyes are currently on a set of original Fortes and also a set of Choruses at the moment. I just want as much direct feedback as I can get on whether Forte II's would be a better choice than the Fortes. Folks mention the K-61 midrange as being great which leads me to think Forte II's. C'mon members. I need more input. Forte vs. Forte II vs. Chorus II. Help! ------------------ Fronts - KG4's Center - C6 Surrounds - S6's Sub - KSW200 Powered by - YAM995

  5. I apologize. Somehow I got the same post submitted twice so I have edited the second. Hoping TV comes through with some good answers?! Otherwise, we may need TheEars to do his marketing. ------------------ Fronts - KG4's Center - C6 Surrounds - S6's Sub - KSW200 Powered by - YAM995 This message has been edited by crash827 on 01-02-2002 at 09:29 AM
  6. Hey TV, You weren't too helpful on providing a reason to "skip on the getting dusty" bit. Tell me this - are you making the SVS' out of that same Solotube stuff? Are your drivers off-the-shelf parts? The pictures on your site aren't disguising water heaters, are they? I have found another dozen or so projects based on the Solotube - some closely resemble Ron's and some are ugly as hell. They all are based on the same general design and all claim to have outstanding performance - flat to 18, flat to 19, yada, yada, yada. Unfortunately, most simply look like water heaters and/or missle silo's. I am talking about 2-2 1/2 feet in circumference and 6 ft. tall. Jesus, my wife won't go for that s_it - oh, honey, I have two missile silo's to stick in the HT. C'mon, TV. Give me some incentive or hope here. What are the benefits or improvements in a SVS that won't be in the DIY? I will tell you two but you can't use these: I don't have to go through the effort of building it (and possibly screwing the pooch doing so) and it won't be a friggin water heater to get good bass. Again, the question is why? And while you are giving me those answers, what size amp will be built into the powered CS+'s? I don't want to drive to Youngstown, OH? for answers but I will man. Look forward to hearing from you. ------------------ Fronts - KG4's Center - C6 Surrounds - S6's Sub - KSW200 Powered by - YAM995
  7. Kg4's are fantastic mains in a HT setup. My system is detailed below; the only suggestion would be a C7 instead of the C6 although it has served me well. The Kg4's are great because you can switch over to music and not lose a thing. You will be very happy with them. ------------------ Fronts - KG4's Center - C6 Surrounds - S6's Sub - KSW200 Powered by - YAM995
  8. TV, Or anyone else who might know, I just found a DIY project written by RS where he credits you for design assistance for what amounts to a CS20-23. The enclosure is 24 inches around instead of 16 which makes it a little less attractive but regardless, it apparently is the first of the 'SVS' subwoofers. It also mentions being a derivative of the HSU 12Va. Ron steps the reader through the entire build process, provides a parts and suppliers list, and specifies you can build this sub for less than $200. In fact, he mentions building two subs and powering them for less than $600. I had looked at getting dual CS20-39's @ 1199 or waiting for the CS+. Please tell me why building the kit according to Ron's plans (changing the tube diameter and height, of course) would not give me the same performance as the official SVS product? If it basically boils down to 'we build it' vs. 'you build it', I would find it real difficult to justify an additional $600 bucks. To summarize my question: Why would I buy a SVS branded sub rather than build it according to SVS' project plans? Thanks and I look forward to your response - I really don't want to get the woodworking tools out. ;-) ------------------ Fronts - KG4's Center - C6 Surrounds - S6's Sub - KSW200 Powered by - YAM995
  9. I have followed this discussion with great interest and find it great Klipsch will permit SVS to post here; it shows they are not afraid of competition. That said, I found TV's reply opening with "Bob, there's so many problems with your text..." to be in very poor form but that is my opinion. Bob's post basically said "I have some questions about how the tests were performed" and did not attack SVS what-so-ever. The subsequent posts should have stayed on that same level. It is obvious upon reading the results that the room factored into the equation. Bob's point was this is NOT measuring the sub specifically. TV admits that in his post. Let me give a consumer viewpoint: I DON'T care how it sounded in the reviewers HT. I care how it will sound in MY HT. I therefore want to see accurate measurements that minimize the effect of the room. You want to make the results meaningful. Give me 3 scenario's: 1 with minimal room influence and 2 in rooms of varying size so we can plot the effect the room may have. Define the rooms for me so that I know what materials are used in its construction. In other words, conduct a 'real' experiment and provide ALL the data. That said, I absolutely love the look of the SVS subs and determined last night I had to have one - or two. CS+, yeah! I have had a Klipsch sub for two years - it is loud, it is great for HT, and it is boomy. I want better and think the SVS may be it. I hope for a head to head showdown between the Klipsch RSW and the SVS that the two parties could agree was objective and not biased. In fact, you two guys send me samples and I will give you the consumer bottom line. ------------------ Fronts - KG4's Center - C6 Surrounds - S6's Sub - KSW200 Powered by - YAM995
  10. Hi guys, I am not an ohm, watt, or voltage guy so hopefully someone here can help me out. My amp is set to 8 ohms. My center and surrounds are 8 ohms but the KG4's are 6 ohms. What does this really mean? Here is what experimentation has shown me. Listening to music on standard Dolby - sound going to mains and surrounds, I can't hear the surrounds all that much - even with them turned up 10db. However, if I cut the sound to the KG4's by 10db, you are immersed in the sound - basically a quadrophonic type deal. Since the speakers are all rated at an efficiency of 94db, would the difference be because the KG4's are 6 ohms and driven at 8 ohms? What is the problem with driving the 6 ohm speakers at 8 ohms or, on the other hand, if I set the amp to drive the speakers the 8 ohm speakers at 6 ohms? Impact on sound? Damage? Thanks. ------------------ Fronts - KG4's Center - C6 Surrounds - S6's Sub - KSW200 Powered by - YAM995
  11. Hi speedbump, Hey, thanks for the info. I would certainly like to talk to them and discuss the price. Indiana isn't that big of a trip so I could always drive there to pick them up. Of course, I hear dealer, I think retail and I don't want to pay retail. Let me know if you will. Thanks. ------------------ Fronts - KG4's Center - C6 Surrounds - S6's Sub - KSW200 Powered by - YAM995
  12. Thanks Keith, I may pick up a C7 just to hear it. My C6 is pretty close to the KG4's though. You can hear a difference as sounds pass across the front but it is fairly subtle and not distracting. Regarding the KSP400's, does anyone know if they are still available from any dealers or outlet store. I browse Ebay daily and have yet to see a pair show up. Anyone know a source? Oh yeah, Ebay has a set of RP5's available that show some damage to the speakers and cabinet. The price is low but the shipping costs are pretty high. I am thinking if I can get them for about #400 total, it may be worth it - throw them into another room or something. Bear in mind the woofers would likely need replacing and the cabinets refinished. What does everyone think? ------------------ Fronts - KG4's Center - C6 Surrounds - S6's Sub - KSW200 Powered by - YAM995
  13. I see a lot of threads touting the C7. I have the C6 as my center and KG4's as my fronts. This center sounds great but everyone refers to the C7. Why? The frequency response of the C7 is clearly inferior to the C6. Would like to know if folks who have listened to both think the C7 overcomes this deficiency. Also, I plan on buying another set of fronts and would like recommendations on the pros and cons of the KLF10's vs. the KSP400's or RP5's. I could always upgrade to a C7 and the rears are S6's. Sidenote: Speaker wire is a curious thing. I lost the one wire to the right S6. The rest of the wire is monstercable. Out of convenience, I picked up radio shacks best wire they claim is equivalent to monstercable. I now must boost the signal to that speaker by 10db or else you can't hear it over the other S6. So much for convenience. ------------------ Fronts - KG4's Center - C6 Surrounds - S6's Sub - KSW200 Powered by - YAM995
  14. Hi, I am spinning in my chair just eager to 'improve' the quality of my HT system. Actually, the system provides great listening but I am always wanting to take it up another notch. Yada, yada, yada - let me get to the point. Would replacing the drivers in my S6's and C6 with the drivers out of the reference series provide any noticible improvements in the sound? What about the kg4's? If I choose to get new mains for the HT and relegate the Kg4's to strictly rock and roll, would I be better off with the KSP300/400s or should I grab a pair of RF3's or RP5s and then look to replace the tweeter in the C6 to match them up? While the freq. respn. with the 400's compares favorably to the RP5's, I wonder if the RP's aren't better suited to both HT and loud rock and roll? Thanks for any and all input. Oh, yeah, KG4s are to this point still my absolute favorite from Klipsch and I can't really see how the non-subbed speakers from Klipsch could actually rate any better? ------------------ Fronts - KG4's Center - C6 Surrounds - S6's Sub - KSW200 Powered by - YAM995 This message has been edited by crash827 on 11-24-2001 at 07:13 PM
