  1. Just checking in folks without much to report.

MKP ... wish you lived closer .. have a bunch of work on my antique Pathfinder and need a guy I can trust. Good luck with the snow .. we call that a 'dusting.' :D

Steve ... that procedure ain't no fun but it can be a life saver. They have me on a short leash .... every 3 years due to family history. It's worth it. Don't like the powder/Gatoraide crap but whatever. Have a good lunch!!

Chuck ... Baxter sends a woof to Jake. Stay warm.

    Later ............

  2. Mornin' all. Snowy morning in Colorado but shouldn't amount to much.

Steve ... welcome back. You've been missed.

Bunch of media hype out here on Manning vs. Brady. Will admit I'm excited about the game but think I'll ignore the media B.S. the rest of the week.

    Enjoy the day and cheers.

  3. Happy Monday all. Trying to catch up on the last couple of pages.

Pretty good weekend but uneventful in our neck of the woods, aside from watching the Broncos pull one out over a really good Steelers team.

Chuck .... that looks like a beautiful place to build a 2d home with LF. Best of luck on that.

Have a good week folks. Back soon...........

  4. Moonshine, insect larva, worms ...man!! Gettin' old, I guess. Somehow those tasty tidbits just lost their appeal. Back in the day (assuming I was already drunk enough) they would've been a challenge I couldn't ignore ...now I'm with MKP on the booze deal. The family is grateful for that!!

Hey ..we streamed 'The Martian' over Vudu last night ..highly recommended. Plans for today include framing up another movie poster for the HT room. We already have Young Frankenstein, Rio Bravo, The Birds, Easy Rider and one or two others. New one is from The Old Man and the Sea (Spencer Tracey classic).

Have a good Saturday guys and cheers.

  5. We've been very pleased with the Oppo-103 in our HT system but haven't really done any comparisons with other models for video.

I've always been a Marantz fan for audio and it goes well with Klipsch. HOWEVER ... Marantz CD players I've tried in the past year have had some serious quality issues. Very disappointing. Returned 3 defective players in a row to Music Direct when trying to upgrade our 2 ch system. Finally located a lightly used Oppo-95 and installed it - no problems and great sound. I do not know if the quality problem I encountered with the CD player extends to Marantz multi-disc players, but I'd do some research before purchasing.

    Best of luck.

  6. Happy Friday gang. Been awol for a day or two trying to address some health issues. More on that later.

Finally got my guitar buddy back for some jammin'. Started out pretty rusty but ended up sounding pretty decent with some old country and rock 'n roll.

Gotta run and get on skype ...it's my daughter's birthday today and they're 8 hours ahead of us. Will try to check back later. Cheers to all.

  7. Mornin' all. Should be a quiet one here. Big deal yesterday was finally getting all the Christmas stuff put away and playing some tunes for Better Half Unit. (She and Baxter are my groupies).

MKP and Boss - blessings to you and your family. Hang in there and thank you for sharing.

  8. I have large collections of both cd's and vinyl and listen to both, with the preference on SQ going to vinyl. I agree that DAC quality is the key for CD's, whether built in or external. My solution to stupid-expensive prices on  high end DAC's and CDPs' was purchasing a lightly used Oppo BDP-95 and just running it in a 2 channel system. Runs and sounds great.

  9. Mornin' all. Not much cooking out here except a few inches of snow. Just enough to screw up rush hour for the non-retirees like Better Half Unit. My biggest burden is brushing a little snow off the satellite unit for better TV reception. Life is so hard!!

Congrats Carl ... have a great day with the family. MKP.......good luck getting that CDP fixed.

    Back later. Happy Friday.

  10. Spoke too soon. Mark has arrived. The Weather Witch here tells us with a sense of urgency and alarm that the nice, warm weather the past few days will soon be gone and another snow front will be upon us. Shocking for Colorado in January.

Bunch of odds and ends to take care of. Will try to check back. As usual, cheers.

  11. Fine speaker with a price that's off the charts. Maybe 5 or so years ago I found a 7 along with a pair of KLF-10's as a package deal for 300 bucks off CL in Denver metro. Called the guy, grabbed cash and beat feet to his house. Added them to our HT with KLF-30's and that's where they sit today. That was a deal you won't see very often, but it shows that patient waiting and shopping can pay off.

  12.

So yeah, it's been a good week.

Thanks to Arrow in the "Alerts!" section, I landed a pair of mint, light oak KLF-20s for $300.

Then, just last night, scored a pair of cherry CF-3s, original owner, consecutive SNs, for $175!!

Both pairs sound great and balanced from top to bottom and side to side.

They sound very different from each other, but I can't decide which ones I like better.

Also, what can I do to shape up the veneer on the CF-3s? There are tiny scratches everywhere and it has an overall dry and pale look to a lot of it. When I wiped it down with a damp cloth, the veneer's deep, rich color came back, but mostly reverted after drying.

Is this something that can be simply treated with a can of pledge? What type of product would be recommended for this?

    Thanks guys!

Howard's Restor A Finish and 0000 steel wool with the grain

+1 on this product. Just used it on an antique cedar chest, an antique sewing machine cabinet from 1929 and a small table. Excellent results.
