  1. Hey there Chuck, we must never forget the Hammond organ in Janis Joplin tunes!   :o

When we did that multi-singers show last fall, I could not believe how much the Hammond was needed!  Had to learn the music of Janis to Rod Stewart, to SteppenWolf ...   Which is why I took the new Hammond and Leslie to that performance stage along with the two workstations for the Diamond stuff...  :D

Ok, glad you all liked this mornings photo....  Well, the LL.Bean outdoor thermo says it is 50 degrees in the sun........sounds good to me :)

    .........Gary

Great point, Gary. And .... Crosby, Stills & Nash and on and on. Chuck.

  2. Mornin' all. Busy Saturday ahead, including Baxter's final "exam" at dog school. Will likely need remedial work but we'll see. Great weather for a change and should hit the 60's today.

On the carb deal, I've been low carb and gluten free since around last May and have dropped a little over 50 lbs. Would probably cheat occasionally, but anything with wheat makes me feel like hell now so the breads, etc. don't even look good to me anymore. Think I'll stick with it.

Billybob, I'm not sure about "Abilene" but Hammonds were used in all sorts of rock 'n roll and country songs in the '50's,  '60's and beyond, although mostly in the background with guitar leads. When my guitar buddy and I play that's essentially what we do. A lot of folks just associate the instrument with blues and jazz but it goes way beyond that. (Think early Santana, Eagles, Grateful Dead, Allison Krause, etc. etc.).

Happy Saturday and cheers to all.

  3. Happy Friday folks! Warming trend here so we're anticipating a great sloppy snow melt, at least for a few days. Finally got Baxter out for a walk yesterday and will try again today. Movie Night on Fridays at our house, too. Will probably play a few tunes on the B before that. I've been stuck on a few old songs the past few days like the old country tune "Abileen" as well as some vintage Hank Williams. Not exactly pipe organ material but neither is the rock 'n roll that I like to bang out.

    Cheers............

  4. There will always be deals on electronics. I've had to discipline (force) myself to limit my excitement over a deal to those brands with a sound that I like and not just concentrate on price or even features.  I'm sure you've thought of that, but just wanted to throw it out there in case you hadn't.  Good luck!

  5. We're looking at more snow now but warmer later this week and next. We'll see. Not much else to report. Placed what I thought was a reasonable bid on a used Oppo 95 earlier this week on another website but the guy was so proud of his unit that he let my bid expire without bothering to respond. It never sold. Tsk, tsk. I was just looking to upgrade our 2 ch system and add some flexibility. The guy's price plus shipping plus paypal (and no warranty) were exorbitant.  Already have a 103 in the HT. Oh well.

Try to check back. Cheers guys.

  7. There's a story on Yahoo's main page "12 Ways You're Making Your Coffee Wrong".  May want to look at it further later.

Our by laws require that we mention cables in this thread every 60 days so is anyone still using cables?  How about power cords?   Speaker wire?  Or are we all wireless now?

Looking at other threads I saw a table tuba....looked interesting.  Are those the folded horn subs?

Retirees.....it's Tuesday......go on back to bed.

    Painting continues....like the color.

HK amp packed and ready to go to FedEx.  Going to double box with another FedEx box.  Remember the time I bought a TT from a Canadian named Vladimir who used wadded newspaper as packing

    Cheers :emotion-44:Gents

Bylaws are bylaws, so here goes: CABLES!!

Great looking sub, Carl. Somehow I missed that thread previously.

Looks like we're in for a few more inches of snow later today. This is getting old, but it's only March and our water supplies should be in good shape for the summer.

Check back in a while. Have a good day guys.

  8. Evening Gang

ChuckAb3 seems to be done with the "Pass-a-round DAC" Dragonfly unit, he PM me as to the return to me, but it's my gift to forum members thinking if they need/want a DAC, get it, use it, and then pass it along.

This is my copy to Chuck.

Ok Chuck here is the Curse you have taken-on.

I gave this(gift) to Forum members, now it's your turn to monitor who ever wants to play with a basic DAC.

Hook up with them and mail it to them, like pass it on kind of thing.

No hurry, and i dont mean for you to bird dog trying to get it out of your life.

Just at your convenience pass it on to someone who will do the same.

    Sound fair?

    Mark

P.S. you can advertise you have a pass-a-long DAC if you wish, maybe start a thread.

Ill post a copy of this in the C&C forum just to give everyone the heads up.

$10 bucks to ship USPS is what it cost me.

That's fair and thank you again, Mark. Any takers? Just send me a PM.

  9. Good morning JL.   This is the E100..(walnut finish / contemporary style like an A-100)......would the sister be the E-300 (church model)?  That model lacked the percussion, brush and cymbal crash effects..

When I took lessons at the Hammond dealer (for 4 years!) I would LOVE it when the teacher would have the lesson on an H-100 !  I would try to use those added 10th and llth drawbars, and of course, she would push them right back in on me :o (as they were not to be used....I figured the high pitches drove her nuts ^_^ )

Earl, you are right, it is a 'Wood Technologies' stand, normally I use it to hold the remote lighting controls, but, I did not want to set the tasty morning beverage anywhere near the fine finish....it is generally prohibited in our firm as well, although, organists do it all the time, and we find stains and ruined finishes more often then not on the consoles  !

All for the moment, thanks for the likes and comments as ever :)

    ......Gary

Thanks, Gary. In addition to whatever Goff mods were made to the Leslie, the organ has 2 half moons for connection to 2 Leslies!! Cool. Anytime one can bypass the internal speaker on a Hammond to connect to an external Leslie is cause for celebration. Appreciate the pic.

  10. Mornin' guys. 2 cups down. Cold but sunny today right now but more weather is on the way for Denver. The traffic heading to the ski areas makes I-70 look like a parking lot. The southwest corner of the state is getting absolutely blasted with snow measured in feet. That doesn't always happen, but it's not a rarity either.

This will be Baxter's last 'official' day of dog school. We will probably skip graduation next week since we really need more time to work with him. The challenge this spring will be training him to stay out of the flower gardens, We have the tools for training, but the snow has made it impossible to work with him outdoors.

Have a great Saturday. Try to check back.

  11. Breakfast out with two old gents.  Went to a different place where I had gotten the blueberry pancakes on Sunday.  I had to stick with steak and eggs because of the protein diet I'm doing :(

Came home and my ice storm damaged wax myrtles had been cleaned up by the next door neighbor's landscape crew :)

LF left W. Virginia headed this way this morning :D  Should be here by dinner.

May go fix more coffee.  Sunny and 42 degrees.

    Cheers :emotion-44: Gents

Man, we'd settle for 42 and sunny. All sorts of snow with more to come and a high in the 20's. I suppose it's a small price to pay for living where we live.

Baxter and I plan on hibernating until we join up with some friends this evening. Just too damn cold for these old bones. Maybe play some tunes on the B and grab a movie.

    Enjoy your Friday guys.

  12.

, I haven't done any in a while being it takes about 12 hours.

I just did one on Sunday, it took 17 hours.  It was so cold out side I had to transfer it my electric roaster towards the end of the night.  It did finish until 5 am the next morning.

That's what's scared me off of smoking a pork butt .... 12 hours, 17 hours, etc. ... and I do a fair amount of smoking with ribs, chicken, etc. Have you ever done a quicker job of maybe 5 or 6 hours and then transferred to the oven? I guess the results would not be as good.

  13. Mornin' guys. 1.5 cups down and more on the way. More snow on the way. Supposedly "4 to 9 inches". Nothing like leaving yourself a small margin of error. Probably a good time to schedule your spring break ski vacation.

Hey JL, love the addition to the painting. There are a bunch of other additions I can think of but this is a family forum!!

    Check back in a while.

  14. I was widowed in January, 1996 and know what you are going through.  As tough as things are now, you will find that life does go on and that you will start to heal over time. In the meantime, may God bless you and your family. Take care and let me know if you'd like to talk off-line.
