  1. The vinyl bug finally bit me hard enough to go purchase a vintage turntable on Friday. I dug out, dusted off and played a bunch of albums I've been lugging all over the country for nearly 50 years in some cases. I'm very glad I did. While there were a few pops, etc. it turns out that there were far fewer than my imagination had expected, and of course the experience was undeniable. Somehow I didn't want that to be true, being an early adopter and strong supporter of technology over the last 30 years. If PONO would live up to the promise, I'd be all over it-but when I have the time and the mood is right, I'll be spinning some discs. I'm sure the vinyl record store owner will smile when he sees another old guy stroll through the door-though I know it's not just us guys (and gals) who value the vinyl proposition.

  2. Interesting post from my perspective as a new owner of a pair of Cornwall 1's. Please see attached photo. These sound great and have been upgraded to B-2 crossovers, but the driver cover's seem to have become kind of oxidized or something. The inside of the cabinets were spotless. I haven't touched these coverings, but it appears they might have been black underneath originally. Good luck with your search.

  3. Now that is some good looking chow. BBQ season is upon most of us-those who spend at least part of the year on the tundra anyway. Gets the imagination flowing. Thanks to all for sharing.

  4. Thanks. I'll bet KG4 is correct as I have never seen those in person. Very familiar with Heresy which these are not. Saw them at an open house in January and later learned they are going to sell furnishings separately. Sorry if anyone finds this suspicious guess I'll be new until I'm not. That's why some people wear belts and suspenders though.

  5. Best of luck. Last weekend I was like you, but was fortunate enough to find a fellow with two sets-one more than he needs (has room for) at the moment. I did some serious listening and now own a pair of Cornwalls. Owned Heresy's back in the day, moved on to a Klipsch THX system when they were big and boxy, but just recently got the "vintage" bug. I've listened to enough vintage equipment to become a believer.

  6. Thanks again for all the feedback. One thought that comes to mind as I look into the packet that came with the speakers. There are two pieces of paper related to the upgrade (update). One is titled "Update Kit for Klipsch Cornwall Crossover Network) (Type B to Type B-2). It lists all of the components provided, the tools required, and six different instructions. The second page is a set of before and after schematics. This would explain why the scratched in "2" would be there as it is decidedly less elegant than anything I would associate with fine workmanship. Still as others have suggested and I am experiencing-they sound great for now.

  7. Thanks for all the replies. This is all very interesting. Yes the stamped number and label agree, making these 1977 apparently. Since the crossover was updated, maybe the midrange might have been as well. Like I imagined, this is just the beginning of of they adventure it seems. As suggested, I imagine I'll want to refresh or replace the crossovers in any event.

  8. After receiving clearance from the power that is, I purchased the Cornwalls I had auditioned. The seller mentioned having some paperwork somewhere and I made getting such, part of the deal. In the large envelope was confirmation of the consecutive serial numbers, which are already on the tags and stamped into the cabinet, but instructions on installing the upgrade that the seller believed had been done-upgrading these to B-2 status.

Well that left me wondering but wasn't "proof" and being a "trust but verify" guy in business matters these days, I finally opened them up this morning and took a series of photos, some of which are attached. The crossover say's "B" but then has scratched into it "- 2". This is unlike photos of other labels I find on the net, but otherwise look like the same unit. My question for those with far greater experience than I have is just to confirm that these are in fact Klipsch B-2 crossovers.

The important thing of course is that they sound as great as I'd hoped.

    Thanks in advance.

  9. As I get ready to retire, I've been bitten by the Vintage Audio viper. I've owned Heresey speakers, an early and well built THX surround system, but now I want an great 2 channel set-up. I happened upon a pristine set of Cornwalls today, which I think I am in love with. From the way they sounded I think I wouldn't need the subwoofer that I know I would if I went with Heresy. I've heard La Scala but they aren't for me somehow. In any event the Cornwalls in question say model B2 on the tag. Does this indicate that they are the second iteration of the original Cornwalls that would precede the Cornwall II's. These have the two cutouts on the bottom, whereas I see three on some photos of other Cornwalls.

Seems like these may be from 1983 according to the serial numbers.

Any thoughts! They come with flawless walnut cabinets and grilles.

Thanks in advance for any info you might have regarding these. Basically I'm still a Rock n Roll guy and like it loud and deep.
