  1. Martian Logan is getting into Atmos with their brand new Motion AFX add-on Atmos modules ** .75" Aluminum Dome Tweeter ** 5.25" Woofer ** msrp: $599 ** Available November 2015 The new Motion AFX is not designed to be paired with ML's electrostatic transducer speakers, but an upgrade (add-on) option for their more traditional (cabinet style) floor standing & bookshelf speakers such as Motion 15, 20, 35XT, 40 and 60XT series.
  2. That makes sense (kinda obvious now, lol). When I initially checked the PC-13... it showed 3 ports (thought they were on the bottom), but they are on top, with the driver firing downward. The PC-2000 is rear ported. Like you mentioned, some models have the ports positioned on the back, so port position will vary. PC-13: Top Ported PC-2000: Rear Ported
  3. Glad to learn I'm still on "view mode". I just thought it was interesting that with all the subs SVS sells, that they chose to ship the Cylinder subs with the Isolation feet as OEM. Must be that the Cylinder subs are ported on the bottom? And thereby require the gap or extra space from the floor that the Isolation feet provide?
  4. Atmos is not that popular here (yet), so there in not a common processor or AVR of choice. If I was in the market for a pre/pro, these are some considerations:1) MARANTZ AV8802...... 11.2 / supports Atmos / DTS:X cannot update, $$ upgrade option TBD / HDCP 2.2 / THX U-2 certified / allows for 7.2.4 ($3,999) 2) MARANTZ AV7702Amkll...... 11.2 / supports Atmos / DTS:X firmware update available / HDCP 2.2 / allows for 7.2.4 ($2,199) 3) INTEGRA DHC-80.6...... 11.2 / supports Atmos (but not DTS:X) / supports HDCP 2.2 / THX U-2 certified / allows for 7.2.4 ($3,200) 4) INTEGRA DHC-60.6...... 7.2 / supports Atmos & DTS:X / supports HDCP 2.2 / THX U-2 certified / allows for 5.2.2 5) ONKYO PR-SC5530...... 11.4 / supports Atmos (but not DTS:X) / supports HDCP 2.2 / THX U-2 certified / allows for 7.4.4 ($1,799) There are some uber high-end option from Steinway Lyngdorf 16-ch ($18,000) & Trinnov 32-ch ($25,000-$30,000). there was an installer stating the 8802 would be able to do 11.2.4. It was in a home theater enthusiast group on Facebook. I kind of sat back and watched but he posted all kinds of stuff and everyone left him alone finally. I would guess he was correct in that is can support that much? He was in a current high end install already doing it. That would be 15 channels for mains & surrounds. Could be he's confusing the fact the 8802 has 15 balanced XLR's outputs. But 2 of the 15 XLR's are for the subs, so that still leaves him short (bringing the total number of XLR outputs for mains & surround to 13) & eliminates the possibility of 11.x.4 Even then, with 13 XLR's available for mains & surrounds, I would have to believe that not that all 13 XLR's can be actually used to processed at one time. You can only select (assign) 11 total channels that your set-up requires. 15 possible XLR's (including 2 for subs) just provide flexibility with various speaker configurations required by the user.
  5. When initially watching a well executed Atmos track, I have said on multiple occasions that the non-Atmos track was lackluster by comparison... to the point of checking my settings to see if all was normal. Not because something was broken, but because the non-Atmos track lacked the impact of the Atmos version. Yes, you can ignore my post. Easy fix. edit: Maybe you won't see this one (lol)
  6. Except (unless you've added some new gear) you cannot process & play the Atmos track. Nothing wrong with my gear, it works just fine. Never said it anything was "broken". No issues at all. Simply stated that the Atmos track of Bailando is an outstanding example of Atmos authoring. And it is. If you don't want to hear about my Atmos set-up... your profile page has an ignore function. Add me to the list...
  7. Interesting the that cylinder subs from SVS come standard with (4) Isolation feet. Curious what the sound would be like without them, unless the the Iso feet are integral to the cylinder design.

  9. I'm listening to it on some nice headphones right now, still doesn't do it for me. I like Spanish / flamenco / Mediterranean type of music probably more than anybody here, but like more guitars and less pop singing. Rodrigo y Gabriela, Los Lobos like on the Desperado soundtrack, Gipsy Kings, Armik, Jesse Cook, Paco Pena, Sabicas... way more exciting to me and the horns on Klipsch speakers really come alive with this type of music. Bailando just seems like a toned down Britney Spears take on Spanish music if you listen to that stuff every day. Headphones? (lol) Then that would be the issue. You kinda missed the mark. Not interested in your taste in music. Like I said, I have no interest in Enrique Iglesias. The point of my post on Bailando was that is was an outstanding example of an Atmos track. The authoring & mix of the track is anything but.... meh.
  10. 2012 was not for me on any level. Looking forward to watching San Andreas, the Atmos track should be a plus. Good to know the AQ is well executed. My copy arrives this week.
  11. My reaction to you watching the Bailando....
  12. I do the same as it is a very catchy tune, Bailando. I have played it countless times and it sounds great mixed as an Atmos track! My kids love to dance to it too! Lol! C'mon Dave…..you were dancing to it also Since his last HT video, SD has added some new gear & speakers. So, I think a new video is in order... complete with SD dancing.
  13. I'm a big space junkie. I have many of the NatGeo, Discovery & IMAX Blu-rays (Journey to the Edge of the Universe, Space Station 3D, Wonders of the Universe, etc). As is the case with most titles of this genre, they often have short run times & are expensive. I also have many 3D Blu-rays from IMAX & others and Hubble in 3D is one of the best offerings. The actual IMAX footage shot from the Shuttle & the Hubble are crisp, detailed & vivid, even better than anything depicted in Gravity. The animated sequences are some of the best I've seen, offering a great sense of "traveling" thru the vastness of space & putting you right in the middle of distant galaxies. Likewise, the 3D treatments are executed very well, the Shuttle launches, underwater training & spacewalks are excellent examples of 3D. It took me a long time to finally get around to viewing this title, but very glad I did. Hubble in 3D is impressive & is highly recommended.
  14. I recently tried out 14AWG CCA (previously had OFC) & didn't perceive any difference. Except my wallet had more $$. 14AWG at only 15-30 feet lengths, so I have no issues or concerns with loss (impedance).
  15. I caught that over the weekend. Nice modular unit that can be paired (retro-fit) with existing in-wall AIM Series 2... or as a full system. The multiple tweeter pivoting array makes for optimal room dispersion with both mid & high range freq.
  16. The trade-up option within SVS would be the way to go. SVS is easy to work with & that route offers the best bang for your buck. 1 sub, with corner placement & small footprint should make both you & the wife happy. Look forward to your impression of the cylinder sub.
  17. I do the same as it is a very catchy tune, Bailando. I have played it countless times and it sounds great mixed as an Atmos track! My kids love to dance to it too! Lol! Haaaa.... glad I'm not alone! The first time I played Bailando I was floored by the track. It was like wow! The Atmos mix perfectly captures vocals, music & electronic beats with exceptional clarity, definition & detail (unlike anything I've heard before). The audio fills the room from every direction with perfect balance & punch. I actually had to look up "Bailando" to see what it meant... & make perfect sense with the video. I'll throw it on just for background music, because I can listen to it anytime. Atmos Demo worthy material for sure. Good stuff.
  18. I got Onkyo 646 at best best for 599$ Nice! You have both DTS:X & Atmos covered. Plus.... HDCP 2.2 Have fun with setup!
  19. Excellent!! Congrats. If I was starting fresh with towers, I would grab the 280FA's myself. They are the best towers available with integrated Atmos elevation speakers, no question. Look forward to your impressions. What AVR do you have (or plan to have)?
  20. Sorry, I can't stop laughing. Super funny Nismo. Glad you have a sense of humor. I think your postings about Atmos are great. You may very well be the most informed person on this forum regarding Atmos. I still have not had an opportunity to hear a demo myself. Would love to though. Awesome! Had to diffuse any suggestions of disingenuous motives on my behalf. Back in 2006-07.... I recall the never ending arguments over the merits of HD-DVD & Blu-ray. Each camp had die hard alliance for their "chosen" format. Me... I didn't care. I had (& still have both). Same thing with Atmos & DTS:X. I'll have both formats in my HT & I hope both are excellent. With Atmos (for me) the new format is as big as a leap... as going from DVD to Blu-ray (or HD-DVD) was. When people say its a gimmick, or a useless new toy or the 140SA's are not an effective option... I have no problem offering a different perspective. I lose no sleep if they don't believe me. lol Glad you had a laugh. Way too serious around here sometimes.
  21. I said both. $600-800 is the starting point. And that starting point is lower than either the 280F or the 280FA.
  22. I can only share what I enjoy & what I experience. Same as anyone else here. Never thought passion & enthusiasm about new tech would be suspicious. If you're having conversations about me... then you have way to much time on your hands. (LOL). I only try & provide as much information & detail as possible, so people can make their own informed choices. Take it or leave it, makes no difference to me if anyone buys into Atmos or not. But those who have, seem to have a positive experience, just as I have. In the past few weeks I watched both Furious7 & Age of Ultron in DTS-HD & both titles were lame in the audio department. When DTS:X finally has content available, I'll post info on that as well. Why? Because if DTS:X is great... I won't hesitate to post that info as well. I hope its good, it should be. That participation should eliminate any fabricated Atmos alliance that I have (lol). Anything I posted or shared about Atmos is accurate & rings true to my experience. The immersive audio from Mad Max in Atmos, is the best thing out there right now. Nothing else can compare with it. Heck, I have absolutely zero interest in any music from Enrique Iglesias, but the Atmos track from him on the Atmos demo disc is so good... I've listened to it 30-40-50x. Anytime someone comes over, I play the Enrique Iglesias track just to have them experience it in Atmos. Everyone always says the mix is incredible.... and it is. Now when I put on the opening chapter of Mad Max & its game over. Nismo has no affiliation with Dolby Labs, Klipsch, Sony, or any other electronics manufacturer (just a geek like everyone else here). I am Nismo & I approve this message.
  23. where do you often find rf-7ii's for less than 1350 (msrp) or cheaper than a 1000 (street price)?? I've seen RF-7's for as low as $600-800 quite often.
  24. Sounds good. I've never owned a downward firing sub. But, I have (2) 15" downward-firing subs on the way. Really looking forward to hearing them in my (carpeted) space.
