  1. Ordered V1800 this morning. Going to start working out before it arrives......... Not....

Congrats! That new beast should deliver. Look forward to your impressions once you get it placed & dialed in! Recently I was moving around the 120lb box with the XS30... similar in size & weight with your new V1800. No worries... I throw around dumbbells heavier than that.  Now I'm playing with 150lbs of dual XS15's.

  2. Looks great SD! Great space to watch a movie.

Thank you. I have kicked the idea of a motorized drop-down right in front of the tv. I'm pretty sure I have the room to do it as the floor joists above run in the same direction. I would then just add some nice trim at the transition point in the ceiling.  But, before I try to run that idea through congress, aka my lovely wife, I'll let some time pass for that budget! Lol!

Whenever you cross the projector bridge with the better half... start with this one. That way any other projector suggestion that follows will seem like a bargain. :D

  3. In September of 2014 (when I purchased my X4100) there was no reason to purchase a DTS:X capable AVR.  Over a year later, there is only "1" DTS:X Bu-ray available... Ex Machina. And the audio effects with Ex Machina, (to showcase the object based audio of) DTS:X are basically non-existent (strange choice to debut the format). Right now there is only one other DTS:X Blu-ray title announced; (this summers box office bomb) American Ultra. In the past year+ there have only been 20 Atmos titles released. If DTS"X follows suit, it could be late 2016/early 2017 before any significant DTS:X titles are released.

In a year or two, I'll be in the AVR market again & it will include DTS:X. But, if I was a buyer now... 11 channels capable with the 5200 (9ch /11 ch with external amp) would be of more interest to me, especially since you can pick it up for less than the 4200. The 4200 is 7ch/9ch with an external amp.

Couple reasons to grab the (HDCP 2.2) 4200:

** If you plan to go all out with 4K, including UHD 4K Blu-ray player & 4K TV that both offer HDCP 2.2

** If you plan to keep an AVR for 5-6 years or longer, consider the 4200 with DTS:X

  4. There is a difference PSA is interested in selling (they respond to your inquiries).... Reaction Audio..... Does Not...... Never......... Never

In my experience, Tom V (PSA) has always been just a chat, email or phone call away, for input or any question. Great CS.

  5. Mine are still wrapped, but really glad to hear Sony got the new Supreme Cinema Series right. Remember the (first ever) Fifth Element Sony Blu-ray release? Absolutely horrible. That transfer could have killed Blu-ray. Same with the first Sapphire Series from Universal, where in each instance both Studio's were embarrassed into admitting defeat & offered an exchange program with a new remaster.

I own at least 4-or-5 copies of The Fifth Element on DVD & Blu-ray (remember Super-bit DVD's)? Back in the early days of DVD, The Fifth Element was the best, go to, demo transfer of the day. PQ was the best & I watched it countless times. Love the movie. Glad that someone at Sony still has a soft spot for The Fifth Element & chose it for a remaster to kick off the new series.

  6. Well done! Glad to learn you can swing both, hopefully (in-person) the condition is as described by the seller. I've actually been calibrating this week & (after nearly 15 years) the RC-7 still impresses.

  7. I agree.  That's a good price for that set. I picked up my son's RF-7's for $400 and they are in almost new condition.  IMO, you figure out what your end goal is going to be and if the right deal comes along, even if you aren't going in order (Mains, then center etc) as mentioned, you can still calibrate the system to have all speakers the same level.

Ahhh, that elusive end goal. I'm gonna chase that nirvana whilst eating jumbo shrimp. If I ever figure that one out, I'll send you my original copies.  :D

    ============

For the OP, definitely grab the RC-7, you'll be happy you did. Grab the RS-7's if you can. If you can't... no worries, lots of available options for surrounds later on.

But just think after this life and you get to heaven you will be able to lead many different lives for trillions of years. Frankly it scares me to death.

Given the lack of any evidence for such a place I wouldn't worry myself over it.

    That's why it's called Faith.

  9.

So.... I've never actually seen (Francis Ford Coppola's) Bram Stroker's Dracula. Despite the stellar cast, it never really captured my interest (unless I;m wrong, I thought it was a slow burn love story). With everything in Sony's arsenal, I have to say it seems like a strange catalog choice to kick off Sony's brand new Cinema Series, complete with 4K restoration & Atmos.  Any of you guys recommend (1992) Dracula?

Bram Stroker's Dracula is one of the last movies to not use any kind of CGI in it, and honestly the effects are amazing.  If nothing else it's worth seeing it for the effects and mood alone.

Cool, my copies just arrived today. I'll check them out as soon as I can. Really looking forward to the PQ & AQ with the new 4K Atmos remasters. Hopefully Sony did not mess up the transfer & authoring of the new series (I've seen that happen far too many times in the past).

  10. Can't put a faraday cage around everything. Solar flare is a "natural" source. Destructive, but natural. The (sad) probability in today's world.... would be from a far more nefarious source. That's scary.
