  1. Nice pair of Cornwall Decorator models. Some very minor scratches on top and sides, hardly noticeable but not perfect. Also one of the woofer dust caps has a very small tear. Does not affect play at all, and with grilles on can't see. Hard to see even with them off. Comes with Crites risers, and new Crites Type B crossovers. Original Type B crossovers also included. Pickup only at my house in Oakland, CA

  2. As I mentioned earlier in this thread no way will I pay the $5500 that the seller is asking for the Khorns. With a great collection of speakers already, including pairs of ‘77 LS’s and Corns, I’m set. But if he’s willing to do some trading(willing to let my Corns and a nice McIntosh MC2120 amp go) plus a little cash then we can probably get something done. Unloading idle gear by trading for other gear I’m interested in is always appealing.

Those prices are freakin crazy  .. I would not have any speakers if I had to pay that My KH ..2400$

    KLF 30 1200$

    Cornwalls 900$

    🙄

    Where do you live?

Those LS's aren't even the cheapest. There's a pair of '85's, black(!!!) that are offered at $6K!!.

Not everybody around here has asks like that. There are very nice CW's locally on CL now for $1000, (on the other hand, there's another similar pair with a $4k price tag on them, and yet another for $2K), a nice pair of Forte's for $1500, lots of Heresy's for less then $1k, etc. Just depends. But yeah, generally in this area prices are inflated over the rest of the country. Houses are $500+ sqft, gas is still $5-6 gallon. Lovely place to live, but bargains are tough to come by. Even in a tight economy.

Anybody likes stevia? Is it only me who can't stand it?

I was borderline diabetic until I lost 60lbs over the last few years. In that time I cut what, and how much I eat, and stopped drinking alcohol. Cutting out sugar as much as possible wasn't that difficult as I never added it to foods, and didn't drink regular soda. I do enjoy carbonated beverages however, and have been enjoying Zevia soda for the last few years. It's a Stevia based soda, tastes great and completely satisfies my carbonated drink jones. I stick to 2 cans a day. Very much recommend.

Sounds like you can use them and then sell if you they do not work out, but you did say that these are attractive because they cab be delivered.

Do you have the ability to move these around and possibly pack up or deliver if you need to sell?  They can become a burden.

I've started some confusion in this thread. The LS's that I pictured and asked guesses on the price are for sale locally for $3k in my area. I did that just to show how out of control asking prices are, particularly in wealthier areas like the San Francisco area. I already have a nice pair of '77 LS's so I'm not buying those. It's the '78 Khorns that this thread was begun for that are selling for $5500 in my area.

Yes I can sell the Khorns if they don't work out,but I'm going to try them out first and I'll know pretty quickly if they're going to work out or not in my space. If I have to sell them(assuming the seller won't take them back) they'll be pick up only. I have no means to deliver.

They're on caster's that the seller has added so easy to move around.

$2,000-3,000 be my guess, but again, the basic premise for today's variations, is that they try to compare used pricing of a less refined, cosmetically RAW (as opposed to a pretty finish) and justify the used prices based on an apples and oranges (new apples vs. old orange) and price in the range 0.5-0.7 times the new price. It's a market reality in front of our eyes.

    Yes $3k

TBH even if they are sold it would be worth to ask him how it sounded. If it were me, I would try your Khorns in your bigger room first regardless all this corner discussion.

I have sent the seller of those TX Khorns a question asking that. I'll let you know what the response it.

Having the Khorns in the larger room is  the plan for sure. I don't want them in the smaller room. But it does leave a little for experimentation if needed.

Between all the high prices, you can also be lucky. These Khorns look very well maintained, and in a photo you might see that it could be with soldered K55V connections from the very rare and sought after 2 phase plug model. The period of the year of construction would fit.

Everything very serious, even the reference to the changed bass drivers and the addition of the original K33 to the offer. But unfortunately TX is too far away from Cologne.

Interesting how they are placed in the room. No corners.

The windows start about 40" above the floor.

I was wrong, and not sure how I got that number. The window pane is about 25" off the floor, and the actual window about 31".   So obviously not good.

So assuming they just don't sound good (to my ears) as is in the main room, my options will be to do something about it as discussed above, or, I could move them into a smaller room as I have done with the Cornwall's in the past. Good corners, about 10 feet apart, with 8 foot ceilings. . Still not optimum, but better immediately from a corner perspective then the main room so might give me a way of hearing what they're capable of with properly placed.

Asking prices down here are all over the place. Then again, there are pieces that sit for months, years, on CL and the price never moves. Some strange cats for sure on that place. We'll see. At the very least somebody is willing to deliver them. That's how I ended up with my  La Scala's and that is worth a lot for me.

As an example of prices, here's a nice pair of LS's being sold close to me. Guess what the ask is.

"For sale a gorgeous pair of Klipsch la scala's in Birch with an extra layer of veneer on the entire speaker with some beautiful edge protectors on all corners, work and sound beautiful and look gorgeous as well "

    then it's all moot.

I have a limit in mind, but of course I could end up being so blown away by them when they're actually in the room with music coming out of them that anything could happen. You only live once, or so I'm told.

Meanwhile, today I hooked up my Cornwall's and La Scala's to my McIntosh MC2105 and playing them simultaneously. That is one big bad racket they make together. If the Khorns can do that  my wallet might be in big trouble.

Is the seller not a member or lurker here? $5500? That's a mighty spicy meatball...IMHO. Sold my walnut KB-WO about 18 months ago for $3k. That said they are worth what someone will pay.

Don't know don't care. I'm not going to pay $5500. I might consider $2k and trade some gear I'm not using, depending on how they sound when I try them out. As others have indicated I would put them in the same category as my Mac gear. They're most likely going to at least hold their value and probably appreciate so not a terrible investment, although that's not why I buy audio gear.

@sberger -- i thought you owned klipschhorns previously.  seems like we've had the corner discussion before -- particularly the fact that your window frames are in the way and preventing a good seal.  am i delusional?

I don't know if you're delusional, but yes, we had the discussion, and no, I still don't own them. When opportunities present themselves, and I learn more about this particular aspect of the hobby, I try to ask the question again, in a slightly different way. Plus, I figure there are folks here that might not have been around for the last time, or just didn't chime in.

As a couple of contributors mentioned, while I have windows, the bass bins of the Khorns would just about fit under them and be able to press against the wall. Not perfect, but IMO doable.

The seller finally responded and looks like we'll start to look at finalizing on Monday. Details as they emerge.

Except in this case, little to no money will be spent if the deal goes down.

And to be clear, I will not ever spend what is the going rate on Khorns at this point in my life. I will only ever get them if they can be delivered, and I can trade for them. Otherwise, my set up is complete.

That being said, if I am to lay out cash for these, would really appreciate some thoughts on what a fair price might be. The ask for these is $5500, but he's open to offers, plus trade.
