  1. I'm still struggling between these two. A pair of KPT-942-M speakers will be around $4150. A pair of two way biamp Jubilees will be around $7500. I really want to get my hands on a K402 horn. Just not sure if I'm willing to pay another $3000+ for horn loaded bass bins.

Also the KPT 942-M comes stock with a K1132 CD. Two way Jube comes with options for K69 or BNC75 CD.

  2. I understand, it all boils down to "pick your poison" in the trades that you make.  One person's poison is another's cure.  Better is better.   Good luck.  I hope that it meets your expectations.  If there is anything which I can do to help, let me know.

BTW: one way to reduce bass distortion for almost any loudspeaker is to place the them within 18 inches (45 cm) of the room corners, then EQ the bass response down to flat again.

This is the technique that PWK used and was a strong proponent of--to use the room's walls and floor mirror images to reduce the drive level on the bass drivers in their lowest octave.  Getting rid of near field sound reflectors--equipment racks, wall discontinuities, other speakers and furniture--within 3 to 4 feet (1 metre) of the loudspeakers will avoid early reflections in the midrange, and give you the best of both worlds in the midrange and bass without affecting midrange imaging.

The K-402s are magnificent in terms of controlled directivity in this regard, controlling early midrange reflections but they still need a little help at the mouth exits: about a 2' x 2' (0.6 x 0.6 m) square absorption pad centered on the side walls next the the K-402 mouths is plenty.  Imaging will go through the roof.

Thank you again for your answers. I really wanted the traditional Jubilee configuration. However I am looking at a $3000+ gap between the KPT 942-M and the KPT 535-B. I definitely prefer lower distortion, however I am unsure how much discernable difference there will be with a 80hz crossover.

  3. Thank you very much for your reply Chris. I know I will prefer the folded horn bass bin however there is a sizable jump in cost going from the dual woofer of section to the folded horn LF section. I have two SI 24" subs to cover the lowend so I'm covered on the bass front.

I'm mainly after the K402 horn and a passive network which the KPT 942m speakers have. I figured there mids would be a bit better than my JBL 4722n speakers. Not sure about any advantage in the HF section though.

  4. From what I have seen over the years, Jub's don't depreciate much at all. Like others have said, you really should consider pricing a new pair from a dealer and get the decorative front that will be the color, finish and/or veneer that you want.  They're probably the best bargain you can find for a new purchase, let alone some of the best sounding in the entire industry.

I underestimated the used market price for the Jubes. The two way version  can be purchased online for $6000 plus shipping. 3 way version at $8000 plus shipping. So I figured the used market would be approximately 50% to 80% of the new price. I had no idea they resale for up to 90% of their new price on a regular basis.

I'm not a diy guy so I can not assemble any type of Jubilee clones. I have a pair of 24" sealed subs so I have more than enough bass at this time. This is why I thought I could get away with the Klipsch KPT 942-M. They seem very similar to a two way Jubilee except with much less LF prowess.

I think you are on the right path trying to audition the folded horn bass bin of the Jubes with a direct radiator of the KPT 942.

My preference is the folded horn because it is so clean.

It is going to come down to your personal preference as to how you like your bass.

I'm sure I will prefer the folded horn. Their bass is so clean, effortless, and tactile. But the KPT 942-M will be much cheaper. I can supplement the LF bass with my 24" subs and they are so clean they can play up to 120hz easily though I like my LF crossover no higher than 60hz-80hz.

    from a dealer

I really don't recommend going to a dealer: call American Cinema Equipment (Cinequip), ask for Spencer Chao.

Ask for the following Jubilee version:

    K-402/K-69-A top,

KPT-KHJ-LF bass bin --with birch plywood veneer front, if you wish.

This is two-way version that Roy endorses.

You could also ask for compression driver options: I'd go with something like a BMS 4592ND or a Faital Pro HF 200 series driver (your choice) compression driver, if they offer it.  But that's just me.

    You need a crossover.  I'd recommend a Xilica XP2060 or a used Yamaha SP2060.

Then buyer's remorse is averted from the outset.  You'd be set.

I talked to Spencer earlier this year but I misplaced the quotes he gave me. I had written quotes for the Klipsch Jubilee/KPT 535-B,  and Klipsch KPT 942-M before but I just can't find them right  now. I would be just fine with the Klipsch KPT 942-M in my opinion, but it's hard to know for sure without hearing a pair firsthand.

I am very, very happy with my current speakers which are JBL 4722n speakers. However I just can't get over wanting a K402 horn. I only asked about the mono configuration because I want onboard passive network for plug and play only.

I'm just hoping this potential purchase will not be a sidestep from the JBL 4722n speakers I currently have.

  7. Oh I think I'm going to be sick. I live in Austin, Texas and I have been looking for a used pair of Jubes for over a year now. I missed the pair that sold in Dallas, Texas. And now this pair has sold.

I am a pro Cinema speaker nut who watches movies and listens to music at least four to six hours per day. I can never, ever catch a break on these. And they are always sold to someone who rarely uses them or does not even bother to hook them up for weeks. Looks like I might have to bite the bullet and purchase a pair new. Ugh.

  8. Hi all. I'm contemplating on purchasing a pair of Klipsch KPT-942-M. I want to know is their performance anywhere near a Jubilee? I currently own a pair of JBL 4722ns which have excellent fidelity. I don't know if this would be a possible upgrade or a lateral move. It appears I would be giving up some HF extension for a possible better midrange.

Looking for opinions on the Klipsch KPT-942-M speakers. Thank you in advance.
