Okay, amp all plugged in. And ATMOS tuned. Setup took about and hour, but tuning took most of Sunday. NISMO, you were right, once you go ATMOS, holy crap, it really is another dimension. And the amp flawlessly powers the larger speakers without any trouble. The Elite SC-91 is having no trouble pushing the small ones and there is no overhead issue or reference distortion between the two amps. And darn!!!!!! ATMOS. I will be watching Gravity or Fifth Element ATMOS edition tonight. Not sure yet. I spent so much time tuning and then watching football yesterday I haven't had time for much else, but I did test on Expendibles 3 encoded ATMOS. Mmmmmmmm. I have a ton of pictures to take now that it is all setup.
Where did you get your version of the 5th Element... I pre ordered it and was told it won't be released until the end of October.
I "legally" acquired it through the interwebs. I always pay for media, but if I find it available before...I...'acquire' it first.

Cables Everywhere!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not even kidding. I have 3 pairs of 12 AWG from monoprice, 11 pre-amp/channel cables: one for each channel obviously and 2 for subs. Plus all the original cables from the existing system. I will be up all night sifting through all this. And for some reason, I am excited to be exhausted tomorrow morning.

I used to run a much higher powered system with separates and multiple subs and let's just say, I used to be able to locate the circuit breaker in the dark after a little...

Many thx. I have been an enthusiast for some years, but never had the funds available. About two years ago I paid of my student loans, and my wife and I share 1 car and have no kids (yet...), so expenses are low. I have been working steady since my internship days in grad school, and have had the ability to save. This is my treat to myself for years of hard work.
That...and the wife and I are thinking about starting a family soon, so I better get what I can while I can.

My new Marantz MM8077 7-Channel Amp was just deliver by FedEx about 5 mins ago!! Of course I am at work and saw the e-mail.
NISMO - I hate you for getting me sooooooo interested in ATMOS/DTS: X
Pictures of the new amp getting unboxed will happen tonight!
FedEx is also showing my 4 RP-140SA's due tomorrow.
Setup and tuning will take forever!! But that's the fun part.

To put the output in perspective, there is a scene on the Metallica Through The Never movie during Enter Sandman where a sledgehammer is dropped and tons of LFE is blasted out. It's probably 25 hz if I had to guess. Two of these 15's were rattling dishes in my kitchen that was a few rooms and 60' away. This is in a house that has every internal wall insulated plus both batts and a layer of spray-in insulation in the attic. It takes quite a bit to hear anything at all coming out of the theater room. My two 18's definitely do not do this. They are loud as hell down low, that port really pumps out some LFE.
I agree. My R-115SW is a monster for movies. Jurassic Park is particularly insane. I find the response clear and precise. It does what a big sub should. Prodigious amounts of LFE.

Yeah man. That was my thought too. I have more sound with the older product that if I spent $650. In the end, my ears said dual 6.5 is better than quad 5.25. I really spent time with it too. Under multiple settings. The RC62II is just the better to my ears. BTW, the Marantz arrives tomorrow and the 140SA either Tuesday or Wed. Really excited!!!!
Congrats on the Marantz... that will deliver some great power & free up your SC-91.

The problem being, of course, that there are a LOT of people that just don't understand that point--and that it must be explained, again and again. Even then...we still have a ferocious level of relative ignorance on the subject that should be better identified as anti-digital bias due to the fact that it can and is more abusible than the (analog) format that it replaced.
I believe this is one of the greatest successful disinformation campaigns that I've seen, and is actually perpetuated by big music in order to sell you more expensive and lower fidelity music that's more difficult to pirate on vinyl, and this is perhaps inadvertent on big music's part. YMMV.
Every pre-amp, receiver, processor has to 'process' the signal sent to it. There in is where audio quality can be impacted the most. Even if it is just test tones, it is a signal sent via a format digitally e.g. mp4, FLAC, and so on. It must be processed. The more efficient the processor, the closer to the original the sound being produced will be.I've actually heard the difference between good and bad processing, e.g., DSD to PCM, and it clearly is controlled by the less-than-hi-fi algorithms used to convert.
Ever single instance I've seen just one person repeatedly and reliably identify a difference, we've always been able to find an objective way to quantify that difference. The next step is to correlate the objective measures to subjective preference, and that has also been very consistent (although sometimes it requires analysis of the cultural context).That's clearly Floyd Toole's bottom line in the video (...and in his book and white papers). I believe folks that identify as "subjectivist audiophiles" don't want it to be true, however. Toole's points are clearly phenomenal in terms of being able to predict listener's relative preference levels based on a few "dial-able" loudspeaker characteristics that can be designed to.
Also, the degree of agreement in the human subjects used and in the differing room environments in double blind testing is clearly without precedence elsewhere using human subjects for relative "goodness" calibrations.
Most people seem to gloss over that last important point.

After testing the 450C, I have decided to listen to Scrappy and NISMO. The RC-62II has a richer more full sound that I enjoy. Youthman, your input was considered, but I have to listen to my ears. I just like having the fullness that I could not seem to achieve with the 450C. Thx everyone for responding.
Excellent that you were able to demo the 450C, I would have to believe the RC 62 ll has a fuller sound.
I stiff prefer my RF-7 with dual 8".... vs the newer RC-64 ll with quad 6.5" (then again the original RC-7 with match up better with my RF-7 to begin with).
Even if you did change to the 450C, doubtful it would provide a $650 improvement (if any), Glad to learn you could save some $$$ staying with the 62.

ehh it's ok I guess, esp. for the money. I guess they had to cut corners somewhere and to me it just has a really cheap feel to it. I tried it with Belles thinking it would match better than my Martin Logan Depth but it doesn't. Maybe it's my particular application which is 2 channel only. The system consists of a C2500 tube preamp, MC275 mkVI amp, Belles, and various sources.
You make valid points. I wouldn't say cheaply made, but it is middle of the road. I really like it, but whatever sounds good to you is what matters.

The RP center may be more laid back sounding like the RC64.
The RP 280F, and far more laid back than the RF7 II. They have nearly all the knockdown power, but the new horn is of particular interest. It is powerful enough to project clear highs, without being too harsh...at least to my ears. The RC 62II which has the older design horn, actually benefits from the extra power and seems to be very balanced with the 280F's. But as you stated, it's all listener preference. Everything is a compromise I guess. If you have the room and wattage for multiple, sealed 18" subs I can't really imagine anything significantly better than that.
Really, there are just way too many variables to say anything definitive about anything. For one thing, two people would have to agree on what "good" is to begin with and with certain individuals that may very well be impossible on its own. Fortunately this is just a hobby for most and experimentation is part of the fun. The key is finding what works best for your ears, in your room, which will almost certainly be different from the next guys requirements / tastes.

I assume you're talking about a R 115 SW. I just picked one up for $559 shipped (new in box) and think it's worth about $459 shipped.
It sounds ok and all but just seems very cheap, which I suppose it is. I'm not overly impressed but that big copper woofer is purty....
not a big fan of it? what dont you like about it?
I agree Scrappy...what don't you like about it wstrickland1? Just curious. I have one and aside from being monstrously loud for the money, it is very clean. Not Velodyne clean I grant you, but it can run with far more expensive brands and hold it's own easily.

...I played her a near mint 78 recording...It could not possibly generate any more excitement if it were recorded in DSD surround. No offense intended, but those who simply cannot tolerate ticks, pops, hiss or whatever are not listening to music....This forum is as bipolar as any group that exists.
Whenever I read someone trumpeting the virtues of the sound of phonograph records, my mind automatically and quite uncontrollably shifts into thinking about analog audiophile litmus tests and political correctness (PC) of vinyl, and "the experience of being a part of the process" by those that have no other way to relate to the music rather than simply through listening to true high fidelity (hi-fi):

I don't try to dwell on this out of politeness...as I believe others here do also...at least until someone makes a real issue of it by pushing it into the conversation. Personally, I really don't need rituals or nostalgia of "the old way of doing things", including bygone formats of surround sound. I'd rather just have the music as close as possible to that which was performed--acoustically, without all the the fuss and muss. I listen to my old vinyl only when I can't or don't own it on another format.
I came to Klipsch via Roy in the first place to buy Jubilees, and by his recommendation, the K-forum itself to post my listening and setup experiences with Jubilees. I also try to share my experiences of setting up other loudspeaker types to increase their acoustic performance value. I do this in order to save others the time and expense that I had to go through in learning it.
More recently, I've spent some time finding ways to reconstruct music recordings from terrible mastering practices, and to share those experiences for those that are interested and that will listen for themselves in A/B fashion after trying it. Those efforts have paid off handsomely...at least for me. YMMV.

Agreed, it has been proven giving a speech with directed thoughts does cloud both an individual's perception and affects groups.
That being said, I have read numerous articles like this and I have a bit to convey. First, from my experience and training in software engineering (not graduated yet), I know about digital signals. One thing I would like to paraphrase from a CNet article "Why all HDMI Cables are the Same", and this applies to all digital signals, is you are either getting all of your signal, or none of it. The ethernet, hdmi, coax (digital) will carry all your digital signals to the processing point. This is one thing the article didn't point out well. Every pre-amp, receiver, processor has to 'process' the signal sent to it. There in is where audio quality can be impacted the most. Opinion only, but a receivers or pre-amp processor's ability to process signal is one of the most integral parts to any listening experience...aside from having awesome Klipsch speakers of course!!!
Analog is a different discussion for another time, but digital is less susceptible to certain interference such as microwave, 120-volt A/C current.
