  1. Yes, and they actually sound great. I know most threads are pretty negative regarding Tangents, but that's kind of irrelevant when all I want is the drivers. The boxes are certainly made from lighter material - looks like particle board rather than mdf in the H2s. But frankly the mid and above sound very similar to my H2s - might even be a bit better since they are at ear height.

what do you think a pair of walnut 85 cornwall 1's in near perfect shape could fetch in denver?

I'd say $1000 to $1200 from what I have seen listed on CL Denver. I think a forum member had a nice pair for $1200, and a really nice Brazilian CW went for similar. However, things have dried up lately for the heritage series. I used to see a couple of Heresys and one La Scala and/or Cornwall almost weekly, but of course, since I have been looking, nada. So maybe Matt's range is closer to mark.

  3. Hi all,

Apologies if this has been covered before. I am still waiting for a nice pair of Heresy speakers to pop up on craigslist. In the meantime, I see a lot of the 'extended' range (forte, quartet, etc.) there too, and would go that route except I don't think they do well close against the wall because of the rear firing radiator. My question is, is there a model in the extended range that can happily sit flush or close to a wall? Essentially something mid-way between a Heresy and a Cornwall. I realize there's lots of options in the slimmer newer speakers but want that classic look.

    thanks,

  4. A tripod should make all the difference. Use aperture priority at f5.8 or greater to give a good depth of field. Also manually set the iso to 200 or 320, which will keep noise down. Both will lead to long exposures in poor lighting but that's where a tripod works well. I'd also try without the internal flash to avoid sharp shadows. You can avoid some camera shake from depressing the button by setting a 2 or more second delay. HTH.

  5. Yes, I'm in the Denver area. At this point I have no idea if I will get along with the Klipsch house sound, if there is such a thing. I have gravitated towards British components and speakers (e.g. Naim/Linn), but have always wanted to try some high efficiency speakers at the end of some tube amps. So really i'm looking at a way to sample Klipsch without breaking the bank, with the idea of moving them on and moving up the line if like what I hear. I can see myself ending with some Cornwalls, maybe, but hifi is so personal I have no idea . There was a sweet looking pair on CL not too long ago that were in Brazilian finish for ~$1300. But probably too much of a leap for me to dive into at the start, not to mention where they would fit in our living room. So if I can get some nice condition Heresy speakers, that seems like a good place to start. After all, they have been making that speaker for so long they must be doing something right with that design. I think the going rate for Heresy speakers is $400-$600.
