  1. Hey Derrick, Thanks for the reply. Loving the system so far but with football pre-occupying most of my time yesterday I haven't really dove into as much as I'd like...yet. I'll try out your recommendations when I get home today. Thanks again.
  2. Looking for some advice with regards to setting my crossovers, sub woofer and speaker configuration. I'm currently rocking a 7.1.2 setup (waiting for my 2-channel amp to show up before going to 7.1.4) consisting of 280FA towers, 450CA center, R-115SW sub and (4) 250S for side and rear surrounds. I have (2) 140SA's that will be hooked up soon as well. I am powering everything with the Marantz SR7010. I ran the Audyssey MultEQ® XT32 setup which sets the crossovers automatically but I wanted to get some opinions from you guys. Do I keep my towers as "smalls" or set them as large? The sub has a switch for phase at "0" or "180". Which one? Any suggestions for setting gain and lowpass? And finally anyone with any of the same speakers or similar I'd love to hear what you set your crossover(s) at and why. (Always interested in learning something new) I realize some settings are personal preference but I'm trying to get a good starting point while I get used to everything and break them in. Thanks in advance.

    What I Got Today!

New receiver to power my Klipsch 7.1.4. Cannot wait to get this hooked up!
  4. I have my flat screen mounted above the fireplace on the other side of the room so unfortunately not an option.
  5. It's 3'-4' apart for rear surrounds considered the standard? Is there any optimal distance?
  6. Doing 7.1.4. Here are the pictures that should have been posted the first time around.
  7. Seeking some placement advice for my rear surrounds and Atmos module add-ons. I'm attaching 3 photos of the back of my room so you can chime in. I realize my current rear surrounds are way too high, but angled downwards they have worked pretty well for me over the years. Do I move the one on the left behind the couch, over to the side wall in photo #1 keeping it behind the listening position but placing it perpendicular to where it is now and place the Atmos module above it giving it plenty of ceiling to reflect off of? Or do I just keep it where it is and lower it to head height and place the Atmos right above it? I'm worried about losing some of the reflection dispersion to the opening of the stairwell. The one on the right (in photo #3) I either plan to simply lower and place the Atmos above it or I was considering moving it to the left edge of the wall where it sits now. I guess if the recommended position of the first surround I asked about ends up being moving it to the perpendicular wall I could move the right-hand one to its perpendicular wall but I feel that would probably be the least effective position. My ceiling is unfortunately on the low side at 7' and I know they talk about placing the Atmos modules no higher than at 1/2 the ceiling height so it's gonna be tight no matter what I do. Not an ideally shaped room by any stretch but it's what I have to work with. The Klipsch owner's manual says to place the surrounds about 2' above the listeners head whereas the Dolby standard is saying pretty much at head level so you can understand some of my dilemma. I'm using the Klipsch RP-250S for both my side and rear surrounds. Sorry for the long post, just trying to provide lots of detail. Thanks in advance for any advice.
  8. That Marantz amp would be the way to go but it is a bit overkill for the rear Atmos modules. Won't hurt anything but it's kind of a waste. I know it doesn't sound like much, 125 vs. 140 watts, but their separate power amps are built differently such as having a toroidal transformer and not having to fight the other channels for power if they are all driven. If you did do that, I'd make them power the mains, which would be a nice combination. In the setup of the Marantz receiver there should be a choice you can specify where you offload your mains with the preamp output and you have four height channels powered by the receiver, which at least on the 7009's does not explicitly say "Atmos", and is confusing because another choices DOES say "Atmos", but supposedly that's what it's for. If you don't mind the size and the price, I think you'll be happiest with this setup rather than having mismatching gear. Marantz stuff looks very nice when multiple units are racked up together in a vertical stack, all the faceplates match. Otherwise, you can get away with cheaper amps, such as AudioSource's 50x2 if all you are doing is powering the Atmos modules. This is why I'm happy I came on here. Thanks for the recommendation. I thought that was the direction to go in and I wondered if it made more sense to power the mains or something other than the Atmos modules. Now I know for sure
  9. Great question. Truthfully I'm not sure. They really don't fit on top of the 250's which is a bummer. Way too much overhang (unless you place them sideways but that is even too funky looking for me!) so I don't really see an alternative but to put them on some type of shelf. I was hoping there would be a second keyhole mounting on the "bottom" of the 140 as there is one on the back but alas it was not to be. I'm open to suggestions from any of you clever aficionados out there so bring on the ideas if you have any. I'm waiting on the new Marantz SR7010 receiver which is shipping from overseas this week and once that is in place, to drive the 140's or 2 other channels of the 7.1.4, I'll be adding either a Emotiva mini-X a-100 like yourself or a Marantz MM7025 2-channel power amp which is way more expesive but I have a $500.00 credit I can use towards it so it would only cost me about $80.00 more than the Emotiva. Any thoughts and/or recommendations are definetly appreciated. Still a rookie and not too proud to seek out the advice of those in the know. Thanks for all the positive comments and feedback guys!
  10. Not the best pictures but figured I'd share. I was fortunate enough to receive a pallet of speakers today that one (or two) of this forums esteemed members were kind enough to help me acquire. I don't want to get into specifics (or name names since I didn't ask permission) but I feel truly blessed to have stumbled into this forum and been so quickly welcomed and helped. I was able to fit everything except the sub (R115SW) into my Explorer which I'll bring home tomorrow. For your comparison I took a picture showing the 140SA next to the top of the 280FA. What you're looking at: (2) 280FA's (4) RP-250S (1) RP-450CA (2) 140SA's
  11. I should add that my "theater" room is a bit oddly shaped as my house is a split level and my rear wall/couch placement is not ideal for rear surrounds. There isn't a ton of room in the back and if I move my couch any more forward my wife is likely to move me and my toys to the backyard.
  12. I'm using (2) pairs of 250's as both my side surrounds and my rear surrounds.
  13. So I'm pretty much outta luck with the RP-250S. Seeing as the depth on this speaker lists at 7.92" and the RP-140SA has a depth of 11.25". Is my best bet building (or buying) a shelf for them to sit on above the 250's? I have the 280FA's and the 450CA's coming as well for my LRC. Really excited but also a little overwhelemd with figuring out adding the rear 140's.
  14. Hey Jay does the 140SA fit on top of the 250's or are the 250's too short for it to balance properly? I have both coming shortly and I'm trying to lay out my game plan. I'm using the 250's as my rear surround (as well as my side surrounds). Cannot friggin' wait! Thank you.
  15. Good morning, Thank you for all of the replies. Very helpful to a Newbie like myself. Like I said before, looking to be educated and it certainly seems like this is the place for that to happen. I will update with what I end up getting but you guys certainly gave me plenty to think about.
  16. Howdy folks, first time posting on here, looking for some advice. I apologize in advance as this will be a long post. A little about me. I'm in the Boston area, I work at a brewery, I love movies and TV and when it comes to things I want, my impulse control goes out the window. Anyway this all started with wanting to upgrade my TV. Decided on going 4K even though I'm well aware of the limited content at this point. After that decision I figured I'd need a new receiver. I'm a Marantz lover so I'm leaning towards the SR7010. While reading all about it I came across all of the Atmos and DTS:X information. Well gotta have that so...here I am on the Klipsch forum. I currently have a 7.1 surround system comprised of 10 year old Cambridge Soundworks speakers. The company is no longer in business but at the time I had a friend who worked there who was more than willing to hook me up for a bunch of cases of beer. So first off I want to replace my tower speakers. Do I go with the RP-280FA or save some money and go with the RP-280F and add the RP-140SA on top of them? I really don't know the difference which is why I'm on here. I defer to your collective expertise. Please educate me. From there with the receiver I'm leaning towards, what other heights should I be getting? I prefer not to cut into my ceiling so I'm going to get another pair(unless I go with the 280FA's,then it will be 1st pair) of RP-140SA's. Do I mount them behind with my rear speakers or on the sides with the surrounds? Both? What else am I missing? The RP-450CA center channel is clearly a beast and at $850 it better be. I will be getting that. Will I need to add a pre-amp to power any of this or can the receiver handle the load. I'm sorry for the long post. I plan on eventually replacing all of my older speakers with Klipsch but I need to do it a little at a time or my wife will disown me. Last piece-the room is 17'W x24'L with 7' plaster ceiling. Thanks for reading all this, I look forward to your input and advice.
