  1. Wow, that's a lot of bass!! Is that the size of the theater room you have video of and your currently working on?
  2. I actually see a lot of those Altec 19's on eBay, How are they, how do they compare to the La Scala?
  3. Well then in that case I guess I'll just keep my eye open for both and whichever one I come across first at the right price, I'll take!
  4. And I thought the Chorus's had clear vocals! I definitely agree though, I have really been wanting to try a fully horn loaded setup! I'm all about the loud clear vocals so it sounds like this will be a really good idea! What's a Klipsch TSCM by the way?
  5. I would say my setup is probably 75% 2 channel music and 25% movies and theater. The majority is definitely music.
  6. I haven't heard much of the Reference premier mains but I do have some Heritage Chorus's and I'll say that if you find a pair of heritage speakers in good condition for a good price I think you definitely owe it to yourself to give them a try. After hearing my speakers for the first time they definitely set the bar for any speaker I listen to from here on in. These are the first speakers I have ever heard that literally take my breath away and leave me in awe! I'll just say when I first got my speakers home and hooked them up and played them everyone in my whole house gather around my room in awe of what they were hearing. I've done some research on the whole Heritage vs Reference line myself and the main consensus I got was people tended to think the heritage was better for music and the reference was better for theater but I use my heritage for theater and think they sound absolutely incredible in that field as well. Also, like others have said if you bought a pair of heritage and turned out to dislike them, you would have absolutely no problem selling them. This site has a garage sale section which I have seen items sell extremely fast for great prices on.
  7. I know it's absolutely worth it in terms of the value of the speaker but I am speaking more in terms of the size of my theater room which is roughly 21x14 feet. For those that have been following my threads I am sure you know I currently have Chorus 1's as mains and I am in no way unhappy with them, I do love them very much and they are the best speaker I have heard thus far but that is half the reason I want to try the La Scala's I say to myself if these are this good I can't imagine what a pair of La Scala's would be like. If I did this I would buy used of course, and would without a doubt keep my Chorus's and probably move them to the rears which I sort of feel like is a waste for such a fine speaker but at the same time I would rather do that than get rid of them. They started my Klipsch heritage journey, I will never get rid of them. The main reason I ask if it's worth it is because I feel they might be overkill for my room size. I have dabbled at the idea of Klipschorns but I know that's a ridiculous idea for my current theater room as I would not be able to put them in the corners because I have a pipe coming out of one corner and the other is blocked off as well. I have heard those really require tons more space than what I have also so I figure the La Scala would be a happy medium as I have heard they are sort of like a Klipschorn that does't require a corner. What are your thoughts? Also I am in the CT area if anyone has a pair for sale.
  8. I really hope that RP-450CA isn't an extra 200 dollars just because it says the word Atmos on it.
  9. Hey I was just curious if you know exactly whats the difference between the RP-450CA and the RP-450C? I know the A stand's for Atmos but looking through the specs and the description of both speakers I can't see any real difference. Anyone know? Is the Atmos one wireless or something?
  10. Budget? You mean we should limit what we spend on audio related endeavors?Back to your question... The difference in total output between a 60 wpc AVR/amp and a 120 wpc AVR/amp is 3 decibels. If you double the power again (240 wpc) then you get another 3 dB in potential output (if the speakers can handle it). The difference between 100 wpc and 120 wpc is less than 1 dB, meaning you wouldn't likely hear it. If you're going the AVR route, then make sure you get the features, inputs, etc. you want and not be too concerned if one has 10-20 wpc more or less than the other. Personally I'd stay in the $500 and up range as you'll generally get all the basic bases covered. That particular Pioneer receiver does seem to have most of the basic "bells and whistles"... But, it DOES NOT have separate pre-amp input jacks. So you wouldn't be able to add an outboard amp(s) in the future. So if you wanted more power, you'd have to move to separates (amp & pre-amp) or buy another, higher powered, AVR. YES make sure this isn't an issue for you because this is actually a big issue I fell into. Being new to the high end audio game I though all AVR's had that and almost went out and bought an external amp a couple months ago until the fine members of this forum informed me that my AVR did not have pre out's! From what I have seen however if you'r looking for a AVR with Pre outs that's got all the latest bells and whistles your going to be looking at an extremely expensive one. I know Pioneer doesn't give you that option until you get to the SC-95 which has an MSRP of $1,600
  11. Welcome to the forum! I actually just purchased that receiver about a month or so ago and am extremely pleased with its performance! I use it for 5.1 as of right now as well as 2 channel for music and it's been amazing. I would highly recommend it! I can't say how it would run on your particular speakers but I am running Klipsch Chorus I's as mains that are rated at 100rms 1000max wattage and I can tell you that it pushes them extremely well crystal clear sound at all volume levels.
  12. I just went from a Yamaha to a Pioneer and personally while I did enjoy the Yamaha and had been a big fan of Yamaha for many years I do agree with Scrappydue about Pioneer's being more musical. I think it made the soundstage much deeper and way less bright than the Yamaha. I listen to a lot of music with female vocals so overbright highs can be a bit of a problem at higher volumes so the deeper soundstage the Pioneer provided was definitely welcome. I went with the VSX-90 and if you do get it, make sure and use the MCACC pro because it does make a HUGE difference! One little tip I picked up from a thread on the AVSforum when using the room correction mic instead of just placing it on the seat where you sit actually (this may sound funny but actually did make a huge difference for me) tape it to your forehead and sit right where you normally sit when listening to music or watching movies and then run the room correction software. I tried both ways, taped to my forehead and then sitting on the seat where I normally sit and the taping to my forehead was much more effective. Like night and day honestly!
  13. Ya, I looked into that one but its tough to find. If I did try another one, I would probably go with the RC-64ii that's the one I originally wanted but just couldn't afford.
  14. After letting the RP450C break in a bit more and experimenting with settings it is sounding a lot better. I did run the MCACC pro that's on my receiver which not only helped the center but made everything sound a lot better. Is that similar to Audessey? Is that another brand's room calibration system? I would definitely be willing to try it if possible. I think I'm probably just going to end up sticking with this one because the guy that had the other center on craigslist has for some reason just stopped responding so I'm not sure if perhaps he sold it to someone else or what happened there. If I happen to see a RC-64ii for a good price I may grab it and give it a shot.
  15. Hey I was just curious I moved the X over to 50 which actually does seem to make it sound fuller but the rated response of this center is only down to 58hz and unfortunately my receiver can only jump from 80 to 50 for some reason. Do you think I run any risk of damaging it using the 50hz X over?
  16. Thank you very much for the input! I definitely agree that when listening to music straight 2 channel is the best way to go. Perhaps I'll keep an eye out for the RC-7 as well if things don't pan out with the RC-64ii.
  17. Yes it is!!! By this time next year I bet I'll have klipschorns honestly, or at the very least La Scalas!
  18. The X over is actually set at 80. I'll give that a try and see how it does.
  19. The guy on craigslist is asking 550 which is a bit tough because I just bought this center. I was hoping to perhaps sell this one and then buy that one. Do you think 550 is a fair price? He says it's around 3 years old. If it's in near perfect condition then that's one of the cheaper ones I've seen. Haggle a bit more and I seriously doubt you'll lose anything if you resell it. As soon as you do that though you'll be wanting to upgrade your towers to the matching compression driver of your center. I dont see myself ever upgrading my Chorus's unless I moved to the La Scala's or the Klipschorns in which case I would most likely move the Chorus's to the rear and use them as rears.

  21. Pretty much exactly how I am feeling! The sound just sounds very small and thin when compared to the chorus and even the JBL rears. You can definitely tell a difference when the center is the one playing. That palladium is definitely way out of my price range and I'm not sure I'm advanced enough to make my own center. Do you have any experience with the Academy or any other vintage speaker that you think would make a good match?
  22. Thanks for the response and I was actually wondering if perhaps it does need some more time to break in. I did run MCACC (Pioneer's version of YPAO) I am running a Pioneer Elite VSX-90 that pushes 100watts per channel with Klipsch Chorus I as mains and JBL S310 as rears. I definitely agree about the rave reviews which is why I chose to give it a shot but I mean it just kinda sounds thin and tinny in comparison with the Chorus's. I figured that could possibly be due to the fact that the Chorus's are much higher end speakers than the RP450 How long do you guys suggest letting a speaker break in before you give it proper judgment? I would say truthfully I probably have about 5 hours of use on this thing so far.
  23. I recently purchased the RP450C center for my home theater and it is a good center but not exactly up to par with what I was looking for. I hate to say it but there is a noticable difference in sound quality when compared to my mains. I found someone on craigslist selling a RC64II and am wondering if it is worth just trying to sell this center and buying that one. I made a thread a while back about what to use as my center and many people did say the RC64II was better than the RP450C. Can anyone that has had experience with both centers please let me know if you think it is worth the upgrade if I already have the RP450C? I know many people have told me with my mains (Chorus I) that I should go with a vintage center like perhaps an academy but it's been tough trying to find one in good condition that is local. I am 99% sure I want to give the RC64II a shot I just need to know if the people with experience with it think it's worth it considering the price difference over the one I currently have. All opinions are much appreciated!
