  1. What is surprising to me is that I can hear things I have never heard before on my cd's.
  2. I have them both assimbled and even with the AL xovers they are very articulate . You guys were right , lousy recordings are not what to play through these. Listening to Chris Smither with a topping of Venila Fudge.
  3. Today it was Ellot Smith , (figure 8)The Civil Wars, yesterday Roy Bucanon(sweet dreams) Quicksilver Messenger service (happy trails)
  4. Mustang guy, wvu80 sent me the al,s so I could get these going with minimal cost( I thank him greatly) building new covers or modding these will be in the future, but I can listen to what I have now.I am following your there'd with great interest, I hope you don't feel guilty on my part. This is a learning experience for me, I has joined this forum back in 2003 but hadn't posted much , I have lived with the kg 5.5s since 1996 and always wanted the La scales, so when I hound them on c list for 275 dollars I grabbed them along with the k77 's and the k 55's. So I didn't know there wee so many mods people can do, but its all good.
  5. The one I have finished? Sounds good and if there weren't all of these options i might be happy with it. I like it better than my kg 5.5 with the titainium diphrams and xovers.
  6. This is great and I thank all involved for this information. It gives some of us another option, or collect parts and build AA's.
  7. Mustang guy, on the schematic for the AL the polarity is +- ,+-,-+,-+ on your photos you have them as -+,-+,-+,-+ which one is the correct polarity? I plan on new caps any way that's no big deal. One cab is up and running and I am painting the other one.
  8. Oh I have ringing in my ears from being 60 ft from a 12 foot band saw for 12 years . As far as turning it down the gauge I use is when pictures start falling off of the wall then it back off one number on the volume.
  9. Artists like Lucinda Williams, Mud Crutch, Dave Rollins, Iris Dement. Go to radio pro hq you can find Americana stations
  10. Not having hearing La Scalas before the sound is new to me . I listen to Rock, Americana and whatever else I might like. I have no plans to wrap , or spray undercoating on them.
  11. So why deaden the k 400 horn? Does it ring that much?
  12. Djk, what drivers would you use with those, they also would look good although not for the spousal unit . She has already said the Scalas were big ,
  13. Oh forgot to add , it would piss my brother inlaw off with his Cirwin Vegas
  14. Of have La Scalas that I have just got up and running. I just thought the large horn on top was awesome and I would like to hear a pair. But for $2000 fir a pair I will do something else.
  15. Oh when I saw them a while back I just thought it look cool . And what a great idea .
  16. So who thought it was a good idea to put k402 horns on top of La Scalas? They look awesome but alas I have not the room. Has anyone tried other horns on top just not as large. ?
  17. Can they ohm ok and still be bad?
  18. I know I might call Bob see what he has, or go with ebag for not so good diaprahms.
  19. And then I took one of the tweeters apart and everything was so old it all was stuck together, ruined diaphragm in process .
  20. I swapped k77s and still nothing out of tweeter. They ohm at 6.7-6.9 . Oh I only have one La Scala hooked up.
  21. Oh, why did they make so many crossovers for these speakers?
  22. Caps are cheap so a little soulder and there done. But I will start collecting parts for the AA.
  23. So question to the experts, besides changing the caps on the type AL crossovers what else can I do to update them ?
  24. Got one if the La Scalas put together listening to Roy Buchanan sweet dreams 2 cd set. The k77 is almost non existent, so is the element gone, I will try the other k77 and hear if it makes any differance. Oh I have AL xovers , Dave rest of $ is on the way.
