similar to @NBPK402 I built 402 MEH’s vertically and have lived with them for 6mo or so. I’m currently building boxes for them to go horizontal. Vertical had several problems in my room. With 8’ ceilings I measured substantial ceiling/floor reflections. Also at 10’ from speakers the directivity can be an issue. You move from on axis to nothing pretty quickly as you walk around.
Im currently listening to them without any box, but horizontal, and reflections under 25 ms are much less, (from 1000hz and up).
Without boxes the sound is nowhere as full or robust, but I expected that. I do think the mids and highs are improved due to decreased reflections, but it’s confusing because the bass is so radically different without boxes.
With tall ceilings and a listening position >15’ the problems I experienced would probably be minimized.
hmmm…what if I tilt the speakers at an angle like the Klipsch Heresy?
any recommended angle degree?

Interesting!
Got jbl 2445 2” cds and 4 pcs of jbl 2225h and looking at this build sparked my imagination!
the jbl enclosure guide recommends 8cuft for double 2225s to optimize 40hz hence the question of enlarging the box enclosure (though that is for vented boxes)

Will this build work if I flip the speakers and have it stand up vertically (taller) rather than horizontally (on its side) like what OP is doing now?
This is due to limited space
Also will opting for a larger box to fit in the front part help in the bass department?

Thanks for the tip though!

Unless I don't understand the process... there might be one listed here (down the page)
It does however, seem to come with driver attached. Still.... it's a bit more than half off what (I understand) they are when priced new.
You won't find them coming up for sale too often.... I suppose it's happened, just not something someone sells once they hear it.
It's a good little horn.
Sadly they don't ship 😞 Was ready to pull the trigger.

Nice! Thanks for the tip! Wonder if it's a pair though. Will PM the seller.

Another option my Dad proposed is to remove the horn tweeter and house it on top of the heresy and use the hole left as a port hole in which he will insert a 3D printed rectangle to tune the hole.
Too complex for me though.
Hahahaha!

Hey guys! Sorry for the late reply! I live in SE Asia so the time zones a bit different hence the lat reply.
Anyway! I really appreciate all the responses (what a helpful community).
The reason Im even considering the passive radiator mod is because my Dad is a speaker builder and I feel it would be a fun father and son project.
What we plan to do would be to remove the original back panel via accessing it through the front woofer and preserving it and building an mdf panel with the passive radiator. (Were also determing if the back panel is glued or nailed/screwed with the nail/screw hole varnished over). This is so we can preserve a little resale value by holding on to the original back panel and installing the new one for the mod.
Thanks for presenting options such as these:
1. Just buy another speaker (ummm got this cheap and this would be the maximum size my wife wants in my living room)
2. Add a sub / build a sub (this is an option)
3. Use port holes a la Super Heresy (Will explore this)
Among these options Im leaning towards building a sub instead if the hacking off a back panel and installing a pass rad is too heretical for a Heresy 3 (hehehehe)
Will read up on the port hole modification as moray james messaged me about the merits of it vs a pass rad.
Again Thanks!

Hey guys any idea what passive radiator to use (and weight to be added) if I take out the back panel of the Klipsch Heresy 3's and make a new panel with a passive radiator a la Cornwall mod but using the passive radiator instead of port holes?
Also looking for tuning tips for the Passive Radiators.
Any construction tips will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!!

Got it! So it would seem that I'll just rely on the minidsp to get to at least 40hz
