Right now the only option is a Creative one and it's expensive. I guess I will get BFV and wait and see what Klipsch rolls out. Amy, just answer us this. Will it be worth the wait or would it probably be too long? If they are in R&D I don't think I can wait that long! Sounds like they are from the tone of the post. But I can't put words in anyone's mouths. ---------------- If Klipsch does indeed release a new decoder, don't expect it to be on the cheap.

And this was written on the DAC chip. dspd56367pv150 0k41r qec0334 the DSPD56367 is the big giveaway that it's a motorola product. I'm going to have to get my bro to help me do an ABX test comparing the Audigy2 analog out to the decoder's DAC. The Audigy2 has a kickass DAC, i'm just not sure how Creative's decoder's DAC stands up to it. I'll report again when i state my findings ---------------- Cool, thx for the info Erukian. After hooking up my pioneer vsx-d812k to the ultras via preamp-outs, I have to admit that the sound quality as improved dramatically over the DDTS-100. Furthermore the discreteness of the surround channels(including center surround channels) has improved considerably. All in all, a worthy investment IMO

I'd like to be able to watch TV/DVDS with the same great sound. Since the klipsch decoder is out of stock I thought maybe the creative decoder would work, but Creative says it will only work with a 5.1 or greater system. Does anybody have any idea whether the creative decoder can be used with my promedia 4.1? thankyou! ---------------- In theory it should since technically all your missing is a center channel. just hook them up same way you would with your soundcard and output the sound to whatever device your want(eg TV, DVD player, etc).

I have a Sony DVD player optically hooked in as well as digital coax in from my external SB audigy. Another cool thing is the Viewsonic video unit I purchased that allows me to hook up the extra 21" monitor for the DVD as well as Cable TV. All run through the AV as well! I am a happy camper. I purchased the receiver with all this in mind but did not get the fact that I did have pre-outs until reading this thread. Thanks for all your input! Toni ---------------- Glad to hear it I'm expecting my pio vsx-d812k to arrive in the mail sometime this week.

So my question is how do you hook up the Ultra's? Toni ---------------- The same way you would hook the Ultras up to the dd-5.1 Use Y-adapters with 1/8" minis on 1 side and dual channel RCA on the other.

Is it reliable? ---------------- Looks like you're too little, too late..first the SWS now the DD-5.1...I guess klipsch is trying to maintain a conservative image
  8. ---------------- I mean if you feed dd/dts compressed signals to ddts for decoding, then ddts would do decoding and preamp as well, regardless you like it or not. There are only 1 set of 5.1/6.1 preamped output from ddts. Or maybe you can open the box and design a circuitry to tape the decoded_only signals from the box. ---------------- My DDTS is gonna go the way of my dd-5.1(aka "the dust collector") if I buy a reciever. The ddts doesnt allow for 6.1/7.1 compatibility with any other speakers than the gigaworks and inspire brand speakers(internal design), which I didnt find out until after buying itI'm mindful of the impedance factor when using 4 ohm speakers with a mid-range reciever, so thats why I chose one with the pre-outs so I can just use the signal processing. When I take the plunge into "real-deal" loud speakers, i'll use the the receiver's full potential

And for the price, you can't beat that with a stick

I dont even use my ultras with my pc(still use the 2.1 thx). But im thinking about buying this receiver in conjunction with my cs-3xjr and the ultras: http://www.pioneerelectronics.com/pna/product/detail/0,,2076_4153_34976,00.h tml with this receiver, I can bypass the amp and just use the decoding since the ddts just aint cuttin it. Oh to answer your question, I have a sound blaster 16 in my PC...lol

AFAIK lots of peeps are buying Creatives decoder instead of the DD5.1 just because it can do a lot more. Off the bat I don't think people care about the quality of the DAC's (comparing DD5.1's to Creatives) or the Bass Management or the 5 Channel Equalization. They want 'features'. And you know im right. People like me want their DD5.1's to make up for the lack of features that shipped with the Promedia's, like Digital connectivity so we can let Klipsch DAC's do the music and not our crappy soundcards. I'm on a limb about to buy the DD5.1 but Klipsch released _zero_ information about the DAC's they use so I have no idea how it sounds, and I cant buy one at bestbuy then return it. If anyone could give me the codec of the DAC then that would be super nice Amy or someone. I mean just little things like is it AC97 or no? Thanks again, Joe ---------------- Actually I believe the DDTS-100's(creative)DAC may be of better quality than the DD-5.1. The DDTS uses a 96khz/24bit burr brown DAC(found this out on an intl. website..forgot which one)while the dd-5.1 most likely uses the same 48khz/16bit DAC found in this similar decoder: http://www.achome.com.tw/decoders%20price.htm scroll down the page some and you will see what i'm talking about. So all all, the ddts may be the best deal you can think of at this moment.

Anyhow I recieved a replacement and it still occurs from time to time but no where near as bad as it did with my first DDTS.
