  1. Hi, I have Yamaha TSR-7810 receiver which is a 7 channel receiver but it can be hooked with 9 speakers. It basically determines if the sound track is better suited for Atmos vs rear speakers (traditional 7.1 setup) and changes the output accordingly. I initially hooked up my room to 9 speakers which included 2 upfiring Atmos speakers and 2 rear speakers that happen to be mounted 4 feet behind the listening position but almost to the ceiling height and are pointing slightly down. After few months I realized that almost no movie sound track is designed for traditional 7.1 setup and my receiver was almost always outputting Atmos sound by upconverting 5.1. This gave me the idea of wiring the left Atmos + left rear to same left Atmos channel and right Atmos + right rear to same right Atmos channel on the receiver. This way I can get a 5.4.1 out of a 7 channel receiver. I am a little concern about if this puts a strain on the receiver or the speakers. Would doing this damage my speakers? Below are the speakers I have: RF - 82 II for front L & R RC - 62 II for center RS - 42 II for surround L & R RB - 51 II for rear Atmos L & R RP - 140SA for front upfiring L & R HSU vtf-3 mk5 sub Yamaha TSR-7810 receiver I read online that by doing this, I am effectively messing with impedance on select channels on the receiver but I am not sure if it would cause damage in short or long term.
  2. I bought the Samsung KS9500 few weeks ago on blackfriday sale. KS9500 is just the curved version of KS9000. Just like you, I am coming from a plasma before too. I prefered plasmas over LCD because of deeper blacks, no white bleeding and no motion jaggyness. I figured Id try the new and improved LCD tech and hoped all of the before mentioned issues would be fixed. Boy was I wrong. The picture still looks videogame like to me from scene to scene. White bleeding is still there and blacks are terrible in movies. My wife doesnt care and got use to it within a week but I still hate it. I went to BB few days ago and ended up paying another grand for the 65 LG curved OLED. The sales guy told me that the LG OLEDs have a "plasma mode." Im returning the samsung and the new OLED will be delivered tomorrow
  3. Bought my first pair of good speakers last week. For a second, I thought the same thing! Where is the banana plug connection?!?! I eventually figured it out though.
  4. Thanks! I think I can tilt the RS-42's a little bit so they angle down. Ill save up in the next year or so to get a nicer pair of surround speakers for the L+R. For now I downgraded the RB-61 to RB-51 will still use them for L+R surround (kick started my savings for better surround speakers ). So now I have: RF- 82 II for front L & R RC - 62 II for center RB - 51 II for surround L & R RS - 42 II for rear L & R SVS PB-2000 sub Thanks a lot for all your help!
  5. Ok so seems like everybody is in agreement. The surround speakers should be used for side, not back. This means I cannot use the SB-61's and may have to do a 5.1 instead of 7.1 system. I will return the SB-61's for now and mount the RS-42's on side. Ill try saving up for few months to buy a pair of RS-52, then have RS-52 as my side surrounds and move RS-42 to rear surrounds again. Would it be good to have all 4 surround speakers be WDST? Just ordered SVS PB-2000 Sub. Hopefully that's enough for a 20x15 room.
  6. Heres a pic of the room so far. There will be another RB-62 to the left of the window. As you can see, not enough space behind the main seating position.
  7. I will work on uploading some pics. My room is 20 wide by 15 deep. Unfortuntely the room is configured with the tv being on the center of 20ft wide wall and the couch is 15 ft away against the opposite back wall. I chose to put the RS-42s on the rear wall because I dont have enough space between back wall and the couch to have a directional speaker like RB-62 work properly. I can leave maybe 12 inches between the couch and the wall while the RB-62 is more then 12 inches deep by itself. If you guys disagree, let me know. I figured having the RB-62 at 90°s from viewing position will give good directional sound for L and R. I also agree the sub maybe under powered Im thinking of returninh this sub and getting SVS pb1000. has anyone here paired that sub with a similar system as mine?
  8. Hello, I am putting together a 7.1 surround system and I already purchased the items but have not installed any of the speakers yet. After reading some of the forums here I am now doubting my choice. Here is what I have so far... RF- 82 II for front L & R RC - 62 II for center RB - 61 II for surround L & R RS - 42 II for rear L & R R - 12SW Sub For the first system I am putting together, would these 8 speakers sound good together? or should I return some and get others? Also, does it make sense to have RB - 61 bookshelf for L+R surrounds and the RS-42 for rears? or should I flip those two sets?
