  1. Thanks Bill...I am a KlipschHead...I have 2 pair of Heresys (I's and II's), Cornwalls (I's), Quartets, KG2s and looking for more...
  2. I guess my Corns are safe (81's) but you say they did this to the H's also?...i have some Heresys that are supposedly pre 85/86 vintage...they have the insided mounted speakers but I think at least one of the horns is plastic...any info on this?...this is one reason I posted the serial # thing on this forum...thanks
  3. I own both I's and II's and I can't tell any difference in sound... if you are really into the low bass thing then you will need a sub to compliment the Heresy (only down to about 50hz)...it is one of the greatest speakers ever made and makes for a whup-*** home theater setup for fronts and rears!...I currently use these for mine...my stereo setup is McIntosh and Cornwalls...did I just say I like Klipsch speakers?....
  4. Does anyone have a list of the serial numbers for the years made for the Heresy's?...thanks
  5. Seriously...I have '81 Cornwall I's and totally love them but I'm looking at moving before long and space will be a problem. How would you compare them to the RF-7's as far as sound? TIA....bosskag
  6. Dean Mac is a 754 solid-state and your blue collar dollars are about right
  7. kh...I'm looking in the used market for less than $600. bosskag
  8. Any suggestions for a tube preamp to use with my Cornwalls and McIntosh amp? I have a (tube) Dynaco preamp and I like the sound but I think I can do better in the quality department. Please, no Krell type prices...I am a blue collar worker! Cornwalls McIntosh amp Dynaco PAS preamp (to be replaced) Nakamichi Cassette Nakamichi CD Dual Turntable
  9. No "joke post" mdeneen....I admit, I am old and hearing is not like it used to be (tests show that I have loss in both the high and low ranges). If I am really missing the tube sound I suppose I should have have paid more attention in the days I grew up in..Elvis, Moonglows, Harptones, Buddy Holly, Beatles, CCR, James Gang...I suppose I may as well throw away all my Mac, Carver, Dual, Revox, Otari, Thorens equipment and get a portable radio since I don't hear too well anymore. What do you think?
  10. Is the tube thing really better?...I'm using a Mac 754 amp with a Mac MX-112 and Cornwall speakers (I love it!)... Just aquired a Dynaco ST-70 (all original '68 vintage) the sound is fantastic but I can't tell much difference from the Mac. I'm thinking that Mac really did something right many years ago...any comments from the board?
  11. zoocow...you have been experienced!! (with the real sound) Now get the speakers that will give you that same "slam your gut, pierce your ears" pleasure!....Cornwalls of couse....
  12. zoocow....listen to HDBRbuilder. The Cornwalls are very large but the sound is worth it. If your wife could hear them I know she could overlook the size. I also have Heresys, Fortes and Quartets. To my ears, the Cornwalls are far superior to the others (not that the others are inferior in any way). I have owned many brands of speakers and Klipsch IS the only one! As far as amps and pre-amps, I use Mcintosh and/or Carver. I like the sound of both but I think I've recently been bitten by a tube bug....will it ever end?....
  13. No offense intended deang... My original reply was in support of chambers1517's post. I don't think it makes that much difference what type wire (cable) is used for speakers and apparently Bob agrees but these are only opinions and you know what they say about that. (opinions are like *******s, everybody has one)
  14. OUCH!...I think I've been poked by deang!....
  15. Webster says...1 lack of stability; unstableness; specif.,a) lack of firmness or steadiness b)lack of determination; irresolution. 2 tendency to behave or react violently or erratically.
  16. Anybody remember Bob Carver? This is a quote from the M-1.5t amp manual (350 watts+ per channel). "Ordinary lamp cord (zip cord), available in hardware stores in bulk, is suitable for speaker cables. The usual guage is No. 18, but for cable lengths of 30 feet or more we strongly recommend the heavier 16 guage. It is OK to use extra large speaker cables offered in the zip cord (twin lead), i.e., monster cable and similar configurations may also be used, but we advise against the coaxial or braided type of cable, which is expensive, may lead to instability, and, in our view, non-beneficial" Carver M-1.5t (amp) Carver CT-7 (pre-amp/tuner) Klipsch Quartets (for now) Nakamichi Cassette Deck 2 Nakamichi CD Player 4
  17. OK, I've been doing some serious listening in the past week. Here is what I found. Like Wes said "I love my Quartets". I am using the Quartets in the corner of a room about 10' x 12' about 1 1/2 feet from the back wall and about 6" from the side wall. I used a Pioneer SX-980, Yamaha CR-820, Sansui G-4700 and a Carver TFM-25 amp with a Carver CT-7 pre-amp/tuner. The vintage receivers performed as I expected. Nice overall mellow sound, but the Carver really let me down. Really harsh highs and midrange and no bass whatsoever. Then I hooked up my Carver M-1.5t amp to the CT-7 and a whole new world opened up!...excellent bass (almost too much!) and nice crispy (?) midrange and highs. Amazing what a few years can do...Wes, don't tell me the tube thing is better than this...I can't afford it!...Did I mention, I love my Quartets!
  18. Just aquired a pair of Quartets. Will be used in a 2 channel setup for now. Any comments, suggestions?
  19. I previously posted a question as to what sub to use with the Heresy's...never mind....don't need it...I stacked the I's and II's on speaker stands about 8" off the floor, shoved 'em in the corners....Put on Enya's "Paint the Sky with Stars" or Dire Straits "Brothers in Arms" or maybe Jonny Lang's "Lie to Me" and crank it up....If that doesn't blow you away with sound quality (and piss off the neighbors), you have a problem with the rest of your set-up!....
  20. Although I love my Heresy's...(I's & II's). I need some low end. What sub would you "KlipschHeads" recommend?...
