That's great the they were compared. The issue with this video though is the music because there's too much thrashing going on all at once in order to discern more meticulously how each instrument is being presented from a relative standpoint. I forgot to mention though that if the music you listen to sounds better to your ears, that's all that matters I suppose.

    Thank you guys.

It's a busy day today, but I have moved the speakers 30cm from the wall now..

They were 10cm from the wall, not 2cm what I said in my first post.

So the difference is only 20cm.

I want to give this a try for some days before I draw my conclusions and try something else.

But my first impression is positive

It seems like that it has improved the holographic soundstage.

Bass seems a bit thinner now but still fine.

The music seems to be a bit more realistic.

But I want to be sure it is really improved or it's just happening in my mind 😏

I find it hard to believe that moving the speakers 20cm from the wall really can make a noticeable difference

That's good. I'd just experiment and just choose what sounds good to you.  Personally, I think there's just too many factors to worry about, so I don't bother myself with it. Just play the music and listen. In my industry with telescopes, beginners get way too caught up in tech. It's actually quite arrogant. They have no experience using telescopes and they're arguing over wavefronts. They wouldn't even know what a wavefront looked like.

  3. I don't know much about acoustics or internal tech like others here and I figure since most argue about it anyway, I just acquire as much gear as I possibly can and just listen to what sounds good to my ears in my own room. The Forte uses a passive woofer on the rear as all of you know, but whenever a kick drum sounds off, the front woofer pushes the sound wave forward while the passive woofer moves backwards, so I don't hear what the problem is.

  4. In my opinion, while doing my own comparisons using my Forte 1's, reviews say to keep them away from walls but I disagree. I think they sound much nicer against the wall but others can be the judge themselves and decide. Some listeners talk about adding subs but subs are doing the same thing by reflecting bass off the floors and walls, so what's the difference. Some talk about moving speakers from the walls but that causes you to lose bass, then they add subs to make up for the lack of bass they already got rid of by moving the speakers away from the walls, so none of it makes much sense to me.  Speakers naturally give off more bass the closer they are to the walls just in general.

I have two different videos here. Anyone can wear a pair of earbuds or headsets and the "relative" differences in bass away and close to the walls which are pretty striking and the mids and highs don't sound mottled or compromised in my opinion. Yes! The two rooms are different but that's the point. Upscale Audio are pros at setting up their own rooms to the optimal settings, so in theory, their room should sound better than mine does in the second video plus the fact that they are using the newer Forte IV's which in theory are suppose to be better but I disagree there as well.

You can skip to 0:30 of this video.

Picked up a set and hooked them up to my Bottlehead 2A3 amp. Plays plenty loud enough but the mids are pushed forward and very little bass. Thought about doing the crossovers but it sounds like that will just make them brighter. I hooked them up to my ss rig, Bryston pre and amp, 50wpc and bam, bass is there , but upper mids are a little harsh. Any ideas how to get more midbass out of them with a 2a3?

Sounds like a synergy issue. I've used my Heresy II's for several years and I think they are wonderful speakers even now. I've not tried the Bottlehead model you are referring yet but I've compared many others. Your Bottlehead appears to be an absolutely beautiful integrated amp. I would suggest not giving up on the H2's too quickly. If you want warmer top end with good bass, one of my favorite amps is the newer generation solid state Dynaco ST120's that Kenny Russell does. I'm not referring to the older model people nag about. You can get them for about $600 and they're amazing in my opinion and I've compared them to many great amps. They have a slightly thicker sound with a warmer top end, so they're a really good match with Heresy II's and open baffle speakers.

The other thing is you could consider adding a tube preamp that utilizes tone control which are coming back to the market more these days and rightly so. I have three different models I use. You can add your own bit of bass or reduce the top end just a bit. I realize tampering with the tones seems like blasphemy but I use them all the time. Blasphemy to me is assuming a recording is going to do the right thing. It doesn't make them perfect, but it's better than the alternative. Another option you could consider is to cut a small 1/4 thick piece of light weight foam and place it behind the grill cloth in front of the main tweeter.

I've experimented with my Heresy II's using REL T5i subs both single and dual, so there's almost no experiment I haven't conducted with the H2's using various tube amps, passive preamps, solid state amps etc.

I'm 99% sure that PWK would have whipped out his "BULLSHIT" button since Horn Loaded Woofers hardly move to produce loud sounds. So pushing their excursion limit with any kind of "break in" would have very little effect on the actual output of the speaker, so the real break in happens with the OWNER!!!

Don't you find in ironic that the listener can claim a change in sound from break-in but measuring equipment can't?

My stance on cables is well known in this forum. I do believe they are important and can be the icing on the cake in a system that is well sorted. All things being relative, I wouldn’t buy a 1k interconnect for a 2k system.

So yes, a thousand dollars can be spent different ways depending on where you are with everything else. If you can’t hear an improvement with dacs,  then amps, preamps and room treatment could be addressed. I am just of the mind that everything is important, just some things are more important than others.

That's a fair assessment Shakey. I appreciate the thoughts.

Wow. Someone saying all cables sound the same. What a revelation….

I think he did the most realistic test, far unlike Amir at Audio Science Review who thinks anything that measures bad is garbage. Amir is a disaster. Shakey, you are one of the most experienced individuals in these forums. I'd like to hear what you have to say about the link on cables, not to get too side tracked off the DAC's but more so to determine things that can really make a difference in sound other than a DAC. I do respect your opinions btw.

If you don’t hear the difference, consider yourself money ahead. But some do and are willing to pay for that difference.  It’s that last five per cent that costs you and you may not be the guy that cares about it. It’s ok.

How about we put it another way. There are other things that cost a $1000 extra that could be spent on making far more than a 5% difference. I'm not saying there's no difference. I'm just saying the differences are so subtle, I think money could be far better spent on things that really do make a noticeable difference.

I have a pair of Forte IVs…. which is the best tube amp choice? Big wait list for Decware, I would probably be dead before my turn. I have been using the Naim Uniti Atom from a different system I have, it’s a little bright. Looking to calm this bright speaker down a little… Thanks

Save yourself the wait on Decware. I've had the Zen for several years before I sold it and note that Decware tries to follow the sound signature of the little Zen with all their amps. In other words, the Zen is the standard in their line while the others end up as push-pull to get the extra power but their goal is to sound as much like the Zen as possible. The Zen was a wonderful little amp but it's not balanced as well as this Elekit 300b. For tube sound, this is the best thing I've compared to date, at least for me.

Even though I still use my ST35 with my Forte's, it just depends on the sound signature you want. I use the ST35 because it's slightly more mellow sounding but the the Elekit 300b is freaking amazing if you really enjoy that pretty, colored tube sound. I certainly have moments where I enjoy it.

I have a chance to get a Pontus II for 2k cdn or and Aries II for 850 cdn.  Is the pontus worth the upgrade?

I've never heard the Pontus II so I couldn't say but based on comparisons I've made with DAC's costing several times the price of the Ares II, I just don't find the difference in the sounds of DAC's remotely compares to the cost differences. In my opinion, the differences are so subtle, the amount of extra money they cost is better spent on something that really changes sound, like an extra set of different speakers, etc.

I sold my Hegel h590 and now looking to get some tubes for the cornwalls.  I have a wilsenton r8 with a pair of heresys in my other listening area and love it

I did a comparison of the hegel  h590 vs the r8 with heresys and I have to tell you….. what a night and day comparison.  The Hegel is a lot more reserved and laid back vs the r8.  With the tubes the heresys came to life.    The Hegel really seemed to play it safe while the r8 seemed alive and fun.  I can’t believe I enjoy a 2k tube to a 14k solid state.

    any feedback is appreciated

    thank you

I'm not one bit surprised. That's the difference between solid state amps and tubes. Solid state always sounds muffled, except for the First Watt amps. R8 is very bright though because it uses the modern tube sound. Ares II is awesome btw. Highly recommended.

  13. They’re using a much larger room now compared to what they had when they reviewed the Forte IV so I’m not sure why his lady partner would expect to be more overwhelmed. Also I think the color is ugly. Lambs wool grills are nice against dark wood, but seen against white maple is just too overwhelmingly light. Theres no contrast in their appearance. Also I think the Forte is a better speaker than many make it out to be compared to the Cornwall regardless.

  14. Okay guys I tested the phenolic tweeters in my Heresy II. The negative and positive connectors were located on the sides which was strange and they were more difficult to install. Overall the top end sounded way strange and reminded me of a cheap sounding speaker with muffled detail. It definitely had nothing to do with break in, so I’m definitely sticking with the original tweeters. Thanks again guys and at least I know they won’t work.
