Unfortunately anything other than  a Lascala center would be a serious compromise. Three Lascala’s up front is a formidable combination , really hard to beat.🤓

I use the rip-404C with my Lascala’s, I have the receiver set for 8db boost, works extremely well.

Hi I live in south Jersey, I considering purchasing a pair of Scala's AL5 but cannot find a local dealer who has them to demo. I called world wide stereo, they did not have this model in their showrooms - I guess they are too big for most showrooms . They said they would try to get a demo pair in and call me in. But that was awhile ago, and they did not leave me with any confidence by suggesting I read reviews and purchase them on their website.  "you will not be disappointed these are fine speakers".  I refuse to buy speakers of this price, without at least hearing them first! Did anyone purchase their units based solely on Internet reviews/ research? I know high-end, audio stories are rare these days. Years ago a co-worker, who is much older than I am, he was RCA electrical engineer and helped develop color television. He had a pair of these and I do remember how clear and lively there were with a 1 watt SET amp, he developed himself. I was impressed back then with the Scala's, but could not afford a pair at the time,. I have always wanted to own a pair but not sure how newer AL5 version compares.

I thought his review was a bit schizoid.  He lists all these areas in which he felt the speakers were not so great, but then goes on to say how he loves them.  I think that would leave a lot of his viewers confused, to say the least.  Does high sensitivity, controlled directivity and low distortion make up for a multitude of loudspeaker weaknesses?  ...Maybe it does!

I agree with his review, there are many speakers with better test results, yet the Lascala's just sound so great as most people here know. Yes the low distortion and efficiency make up for a lot of failings, I found his review to be one of the few accurate ones.

My wife also is opposed to replacing our Lascala's with anything else, even though they're big and are the black lacquer finish which doesn't fit in with our furniture.

I have an R90/6 BMW that I joke about, saying that aside from the brakes, chassis, gearbox, clutch, electrical system and suspension, it's a great bike. That also is true, on any measurable metric the R90/6 falls short, except for one, the shear pleasure of riding it. That's why out of the bikes in the garage it is the one with 500,000 Km on it.

There are many things we really like even though they may not be the absolute best, good thing too as otherwise Diann would replace me with a more up to date model 🙂

  4. I'm running the RP-404C with a pair of Lascala's.

With 6dB boost for the 404 it sounds just fine as a center channel.

Maybe there's something wrong with yours?

How does it sound if you hook it up as a main running alone? If it sounds bad there's something wrong with it.

  5. Hi, I have a living room in a townhouse with a pair of Lascala's as the main speakers.

I would like to add rear speakers and was considering the R-620F's as their efficiency is OK ( my receiver has a maximum of 10dB rear boost), and they fit in with the décor.

    Any comments?

    Thanks, Rod.
