  1. I agreed with you wholeheartedly that the right sound could only be defined by my own ears, too personal. Congrats on this cornwalls iii, they are incredible speakers. I have in my office system, which has extensive acoustic treatment, a pair of Forte II with upgraded Crites caps and crossover cables, sealed all possible air leaks and added 2.5 oz of weight to the passive radiator. These powered by a Sunfire Ultimate Receiver just sound incredible!!! I love sealed subs, I believe they give me better quality bass that the ported brothers. Thank you for for the pros and cons of BR design, there is very useful info in there to better understand the general principles. My confusion is why I gained bass below 32.5 htz??? Seems opposite of what I expected??
  2. I have a pair of RF-83 which are rated down to 29 htz, and have serious bass peaks in my room at 45 and 70. In my attempts to solve this issue I have played with tone controls, plugging ports in various combinations, fidgeted with position and other tweaks. The best solution I have found, that only modifies the bass 1000 htz down, is plugging 2 of the 3 ports in these speakers, the bottom 2 to be exact. When doing this I lower those room peaks but to my surprise, I gained bass from the 32.5 htz and lower. Sounds much better to my ears. I am confident in my measurements, I did them like 20 different times, different days, and they are consistent. Seems like a good solution with no apparent down side. Am I missing something???? attached image with 2 curves, one normal response and one with 2 ports plugged.
  3. Nice setup!! You have a DAC and a turntable going in analog to your 88A, so you your 88a is essentially your preamp and DAC. I have tubes on my Sunfire Tube preamp, and the dsp goes after that, then into a Sunfire 300 Two SS amp. Do you think it will add its own digital color after my tubes or is it very transparent?? I love my sound now but would like to do some room correction if it does not negatively affect my sound.
  4. Hello, I have been curious about the miniDSP with Dirac live, but I am hesitant to incorporate an analog-digital-analog conversion after my tube preamp. Logically it should eliminate the use of the tubes and it's goodness🤔. I know there is a question somewhere in there??? Minidsp after tubes: yes or no??
  5. Agreed!! I don't see myself replacing my RF83 or RF63 for these Forte II, but now that I have them dialed in they are truly magnificent speakers!!
  6. The correct positioning helped with the bass. I also change the speaker wire from 14 AWG to 11AWG, installed the Crites crossover upgraded caps, switched the crossover cable to the woofer from 18 awg to 14 awg. At the end everything helped, now I am really digging these speakers a lot!!!
  7. Position and correct cable AWG made a world of difference!! Thanks for all your help and guidance👍
  8. I checked all the settings, played with the position and all is good now. I think they were set to small and crossover at 80mhz default. They are sitting 6 feet from each other, like 10 inches from the back wall and around 5 feet each from their respective side walls. I am using 14 awg speaker cable now and tomorrow will switch to double 14 agw, effectively an 11 awg, maybe that helps a little the low end too. Will upgrade the caps and internal wiring to 11 awg tomorrow, lets see how that works out. Was maybe thinking of glueing a washer to the back of the passive radiator(apparently max 2.5 oz), supposedly this helps them dig deeper??? Got some Dynamat for internal damping of the cabinet and the passive radiator metal brace. Will play with the angle a little tilted up to compensate for how low they sit? All these upgrades and tweaking could work for the better or worse, but it sure is fun though!!!
  9. I didnt get to play alot with it today, just reset to factory default. Tomorrow will check because it doesnt make sense that a room could suck SO muh life from them. Thanks for the heads up!!👍
  10. Ironically, recording music studios suck for music listening!!!🤔
  11. I usually don't listen very loud, BUT!! I just moved the Fortes to my office today, an old studio, and unfortunately found that the extensive acoustic treatment KILLS the life and bass of the Fortes, they sounded better and more alive in my living room. I am not a basshead but they need a sub, and power to handle that room. Will try with an RSW10D and see how it goes. Tried with the Sunfire Ultimate Receiver.
  12. These look really nice!! I usually go fo higher power, but then again, I have never tried something like this! How would it compare to an Ultimate with its 200 watts?
  13. What amplifier do more knowledgeble souls recommend for the Forte II?? I will be using a 200 watt Sunfire Ultimate Receiver until I get something upgraded. This receiver is 98% of my separates with the convenience of 1 box. Was thinking maybe tubes?? What do you suggest??
  14. Will have ample time play with the Fortes, I am restoring them and upgrading them. They are going into my office system, which I just moved to an old recording studio, so they should have a proper room to play in.
  15. I have the RF63s in my home theater, with a Sunfire Cinema Grand 200 watt per channel and a Marantz AV8003 pre/pro and they are pure magic. I would not change the Fortes for them either!!
  16. I agree. On your first point, I tried them with various music at different levels. I only really switched them 3 times in a period of 2 days, so I got a chance to listen to them for a good while at a time. 2. I am recapping them, doing a little bit of simple upgrades, and they will be in a dedicated 2 channel system in my office with great electronics too. I will have the 83s at home and the Fortes at the office, I will grow accustomed to its sound and lets see how they mesure up with enough time. The methodology of testing will always have its flaws, but you should be able to tell what is noticeable better. Youthman tried the La Scala with various RF7 ii RF7 iii, RF7II upgraded, the La Scalas beat them out and he switched out the 83s for those. With the Fortes the results were noticeably in favor of the RF 83s.
  17. I believe they are original, but the sound is great. I have the Crites upgrade and will be doing than soon and see how it goes. They will be in my other dedicated 2 channel system with similar equipment, so I will have a chance listen to them extensively after this.
  18. I don't know why they don't get much love though, I think they are just great!!
  19. Just thought I would share. I have always heard/read that the Klipsch Heritage series is a step above the reference series. I just got a Forte II in fabulous shape, they sound amazing, and I did a very simple comparison with my RF-83s. Tried with same cables, sub on AND off, same front end, and standing side by side, as shown in the picture. Without going in too deep into it, the RF-83, in my listening room with my equipment, were just better. It was not subtle either, it was noticeable even to my wife. The sound of the RF83s was bigger, more depth, clearer imaging, bigger soundstage, extended lower and was all around more enjoyable. The mid range in the Forte II was great, but it was missing so many other things that what it DID do better was clouded by what it was missing. Both of them are fabulous speakers, but comparing them side by side, I am keeping the 83s. The sound from the 83, with my setup, the music just seems to float and completely separate from the speakers, they completely disappear. The Forte II did this too, but not as noticeable. Granted, I have been living with my RF83 for a while now, I just love the sound, and I have 2 days with the Forte II only. Could this influence?? What am I missing?? My experience is the same as Youthman, Michael Stevens, with the Forte III vs the RF-7 III. Can't wait to do this same comparison with a pair of La Scalas!!!
  20. That would be a heck of a surround, unfortunately I have no space for that setup in my theater room. Great opinion though!!!
  21. Hello everyone, I have come across, basically for free, a pair of RF-83. They only have 3 woofers in total, 1 tweeters, both crossovers are damaged, no grills, and they have a little cosmetic damages. They have been gutted by the dealer for parts, but the cabinets are structurally intact. I already have a pair of RF-83 in perfect condition, so my question is; are there UPGRADED parts, woofers, tweeters, crossovers, that fit the rf-83 cabinets? I love the RF83s, but it makes no sense to me to have 4 identical speakers. Thank you very much, all opinions are welcome.
  22. My preamp has no bass management, but I will definitely try leaving the subwoofer on always instead of leaving it in auto mode. Hopefully that strange interaction will dissapear. Thank you for the interesting read, will try a few different thing recommended here in my HT. Thank you!!!
  23. I have Sunfire Tube Preamp, Sunfire 300 Two amp, Klipsch RSW-15 sub and Klipsch RSW-10D sub, haven't decided which one, or if both, will stay in the system yet. The system is a 2 channels and I run the speakers, Klipsch RF83, full range. I just use the sub/s to fill in the lower frequencies under 40 htz. The reason why I would like to connect the sub to the amp directly is because it/they are causing some clicking noises in the speakers, or sometimes some weird interference with the RCA connections used. My preamp has 2 sets of main out RCA, it does not have a dedicated sub out. I can hear some interaction with the speakers that manifests itself in various different little quirks, nothing mayor, but still present.
  24. Hello community. Many preach, including REL, that the best way to connect a subwoofer is from the high level speaker output from the amplifiers so the sub receives the same "signature" sound the amp sends to the speakers. This sounds quite logical!! My subs only have RCA inputs, how can I go about this type of connection? Is there a good high level to RCA thingamajig?? Any suggestions?? Thank you for your constant guidance!!
