  1. Check out the wide screen Sony XBR models. It has three stretch modes, and built in HD convertor. HD alone is worth the look. I have a 57" model purchased just prior the Olympics. Recently noticed the price on the 65" model is now equal to what I paid for the 57" model ($1K difference). I assume the 57" price fell accordingly. That's the rub when buying new technology.
  2. Does anyone out there have any experience with line conditioners e.g. Monster Cables HTS-2600?? I'm am still plagued with a bit of noise on my subwoofer. It is present even when it is the only component power. Tried the infamous 'cheater' plug (the noise actually gets worse). These conditioners that Monster and other companies make appeal to my engineering side, however, my business sense is suspicious. Any feedback?
  3. I tried the cheater plug trick, it didn't fix the problem. I should add that there is a GFI in the circuit (installed by previous owners), along with a surge protector line strip. I plan to eliminate these sources one at time, then install a new circuit direct to service panel if necessary. Line routing may be an issue, as you know an HT setup can get messy, being somewhat anal I have bundled the speaker wires in one group and line power and source connections in another group.
  4. I have a small problem with hum from my subwoffer. I have tried a new ground circuit, since I found a 200-800 mv difference beween my neutral and previous ground. While the problem is better, it is not 100%. Is there an inexpensive isolation transformer or other technique available? Thanks,
  5. Just a simple guy, but I seem to remember that current squared times the cable resistance is the voltage drop across the length of a wire. I found "Monster like", clear 14 gauge twisted pair, at the local Home Depot for $.32/ft (along with some misc. 2x4's). Granted we are dealing with AC and it's not really that simple, however, the audio frequencies are fairly low and capacitance and inductance should not be much of an concern (unless you coil up a several dozen feet). I'm not an expert, however, I would be real surprized if you could measure a difference much less hear it. I think this topic becomes more important when you spend 5 firgures for speakers and must compensate with the most expensive cable. Don't confuse cost with value and don't forget Ohm's law!!!

    Academy

Building an HT system with (2) pairs of Fortes. Actually, an older pair of Forte's and a newer pair of Forte II's. My question is whether the Academy was the first center channel speaker Klipsch developed?? Also, does anyone know how many were manufactered? Tnx.
