  1. Thanks for the reply...I will definately give that a try. I guess the truth is, I probably could have been more careful with the grills, but I still think they snap off a little too easy. Thanks again for the response and have a great day!--Andy
  2. I am sure this has been asked before, but I couldn't find a thread addressing this issue. I have a pair of RF3 IIs that I absolutely love. Simply the best speakers I have ever heard. However, the grills are crap. Over the last 2 years, I have managed to break nearly all of the tooth pick grill pegs off. I have been very easy on the speakers, but those things are just too dang fragile. Here is the question...I have heard that if I send the grills to klipsch, they will replace them with new ones for free. This may just be a rumor, but considering the weakness of the grill, I actually think it sounds like a good policy. Anyone know if this is true? The replacement cost for each grill is ridiculous. Thanks for any insight.--Andy
  3. i know this is a klipsch board, but ya'll have given me such good advice on my klipsch setup i thought i would ask you about a problem i am having with my new HDTV. I have a toshiba 42h81 widescreen television with a toshiba progressive scan dvd player. my problem is that on some dvd's (matrix last night) the dark but not black scenes look very grainy or digitized or pixilated. transitions from dark to black scenes seem to exhibit this the most. should i expect this? it seems worse on older movies, but can be found on all. i am no configuring genius, but i have played with the basic settings of contast, color, etc. It seems that ajusting the set may work for some scenes but not for others. any help would be wonderful--andy This message has been edited by ellisfsu on 04-11-2002 at 03:04 PM
  4. I am geting a widescreen high def Tv tomorrow and would really like to place each of my rf3-II's immediatley to each side of the set. will this interfere with my new TV? if it will, how far do i have to seperate the set from the speakers? Dave- Always great to talk to a noles fan. i am currently finishing up my final requirements for my masters at fsu. it is a great dang school. Great call with g love and special sauce. there is a certain cult following for them here in tally. thanks everybody for their input on this thread.....i will attempt to widen both my knowledge and my collection based on the reccomendations y'all made. have a good one!
  6. Boa-- i was referring to the additional sub that i was using for the center channel....it seemed to muddy up the vocals. i am still running my main H/T sub (the musically challenged Jamo) all the time so i still have the denon configured for sub use. The junk yamaha i was using was just to see if an additional sub would improve the sound of my original center, the sc-1. anyway, thanks again for all the advice and keep these boards rollin' so i can continue to feed my addiction-ellis
  7. thanks for all the input.....just so you know, i played around with the set-up enough to determine that yall are right on the mark. It sounded best without the yamaha sub and with the denon set to cross things over at 80hz. Anybody got an svs they want to sell me? i'll trade you my kicking yamaha!Have a good one fellas--ellis
  8. Seb- I have two subs..My first sub is a Jamo 10 inch powered sub that i have to admit sounds pretty darn good for H/T but lacks when it comes to music. I am on the verge of ordering an SVS 25-31 pci to replace it. I also have an 8" powered sub (yamaha) that i recently started running in conjunction with my center channel sc-1. (untill i replaced it with the rc3II)I am still not sure if i liked the sound i was getting when employing the sub/center union, so i have decided to run the rc3 for a bit without the sub. have a great damn day-ellis
  9. i just swapped my sc-1 for an rc3II center and was wondering if i should set it as a large or small speaker from my denon 3802. thanks in advance--ellis

while enjoying my modest klipsch/denon setup, i always find that regardless of what CD i start with i usually end up jamming to contemporary blues recordings. it almost seems as if you can feel the guitar plucks more than you can hear them. if anyone else enjoys this type of music, i suggest Tab Benoit and Johnny Lang as must buys. also, ZZ Tops's One Foot in The Blues album is worth a listen. Anyone else got recommendations in this genre?
  11. first of all i would like to appologize for my recent posting frenzy. i just always seem to be in need of advice and yall do a much better job than my local sales reps and nitwit rommies at assisting me in my journey toward the realm of sonic bliss. Anyway, here is my question- i have a yamaha yst-sw 45 subwoofer not being used and was wondering if running it in conjunction with my sc-1 center channel would be a good idea. the sub is an 8 inch (i think) and seemed to have acceptable output when used in a previous bedroom system. if i do this, would i need to set the receiver (denon 3802)crossover to 80 and adjust the sub accordingly? should i do this at all? thanks in advance. 12. thanks for the input everyone. i think i will just warm up to my subs new role in the system. i feel different speaker placement will aid the bass in the future but i have absolutely no room to rearrange in my matchbox apartment. happy st. pats day. T-man, i am thinking about swapping to an SVS pci sub and was wondering how yours is performing in your setup. Have a great one.
  13. yep, i kept the H/K but would hate to think that what i assumed was a higher class receiver doesn't sound as good as one that cost considerably less. besides, the 3802 kicks tail on HT applications. Please, please, don't tell me that my precious denon is musically inferior to the $350, 65 watt HK it replaced. if it is, i will just have to depend on the sub more than i would like. i just want to know i am getting everything i am supposed to. i simply cannot imagine someone running my setup without a subwoofer or two and enjoying music. But on the other hand, when mated with a good sub the sound is amazing. i just feel that i am overly dependent on the sub. thanks again. 14. alright, this has been driving me crazy. i have a denon 3802 running to a set of rf3II's. i am concerned that i am not getting enough bass from the speakers. i know the blame should not be placed on the rfII's as i experienced the same "lack" with my previous mains (ksf 8.5's). i am not expecting the speakers to reproduce what is intended for the sub, but i still feel i should be getting more upper range bass (kickdrums and such). i am comparing my current sound to what i experienced while running an H/K avr 300 to the set of 8.5's. when watching the woofers in action, i see very little movement and the port barely breathes (if any at all). i am almost certain all of the settings on the 3802 are on the mark (front speakers set to large and the low frequencies sent to mains and sub. i also have played around with the crossover settings to no avail). with my sub on i really enjoy the sound. with sub off i always want to somehow turn the bass up more. i know yall will dismiss this as someone wanting his mains to do what a subwoofer is supposed to do. however, please understand that i am not refering to very low frequencies. i simply feel that the denon is not allowing the rf3's to do what they are supposed to. i never experienced this with the H/K running to the 8.5's. BTW, i am also the poster who was concerned about amplifier hiss a couple of posts down. could these be related? am i out of my mind and expecting too much? is this just denon sound? thanks for any advice.
  15. Thanks for the input...these boards rock. just to clear the whole mess up for yall, i am not trading my rf3II's with any other person. i purchased a set of rf3 at a local store. when i got home, the employees had accidently loaded rf3II's into my car. However, one of the rf3II's they gave me had the bent woofer. i am being offered to keep the bent II's or swap them out for unbent rf3's. so i feel you chaps are right....i'll keep the II's. By the way, these speakers are amazing. i plugged them in to my 3802, and for the first time in my life, i experienced sonic bliss in my own home. these II's were floor models so i think some of the necessary break in time for the speakers had already elapsed by the time i purchased them. anyway thanks again for your help and i look forward to many more chats on these boards--have a damn fine day.
  16. How much should i expect to pay for a single woofer for an RF3II? is the woofer the same as was used in the RF3 series?
  17. i have found myself in a very perplexing quandary. I currently have a set of new RF3II's in which one of the subs in one of the speakers is bent (wrinkled). Both speakes sound fine. Here is my quandary: through a series of crazy events, i am being offered to swap the bent rf3II's for a set of new, unbent rf3's. should i do this? is the damaged sub in the rf3II's more of a cosmetic problem than anything? Does the internal "monster" wiring really add to the sonic bliss? thanks for any advice.
  18. i am running a pair of RF3II's as mains off of a denon 3802. My problem is that i am experiencing what i feel is an abnormal level of amplifier hiss. This hiss maintains a constant volume regardless of the amps volume setting. I need to admit that i am a treble junkie and usually have the treble setting of the 3802 at "6". should some hiss be expected with this treble setting running to the my highly efficient (and incredible) RF3II's? Thank you and please advise. By the way, i do hear the hiss in the other channels (my yet to be upgraded synergy series speakers) but not as loud.
